COMMUNIQUE

The Council for the Defence of Human Rights and Freedoms has warned of the  danger for the escalation of violence. The victims of such violence are all  the citizens of Kosova regardless of their national identity. The CDHRF,  being an organization for the defence of human rights and freedoms, acts in  accordance to the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

After the arrival of the international forces in Kosova and the return of  the refugees, we have condemned the acts of violence against the Serbs,  Montenegrins and the Roma, the looting of their houses, the usurpation of  their flats, etc. The violence has further escalated with the killings of  many Albanians, Serbs and Roma. Some 400 citizens were killed as of June 10,  1999.

CDHRF condemns the recent terrorist attack in Fushe Kosova, which resulted  with the killing of 3 Serb citizens and the wounding of more than 25. Such  actions can only be qualified as premeditated crimes. CDHRF believes that  these actions against human lives and their property are being organized and  orchestrated by certain circles which cannot agree with the new reality in  Kosova and which are trying to destabilize the situation. We once again  appeal to all the citizens of Kosova not to take law in their hands, as  violence results in violence. The criminals will be dealt with by regular  courts as well as the International War Crimes Tribunal.

CDHRF will continue to condemn the violations of human rights and freedoms  and will insist in bringing the perpetrators to court regardless of their  national identity. We appeal to the international community to hasten with  the establishment of different institutions (police, courts, etc.) as the  institutional gap is being used by those who want to turn Kosova into a  constant source of crises.
