NAAC CONDEMS KILLING OF UN WORKER IN KOSOVA
Washington, October 18, 1999: The National Albanian American Council issued the following statement in response to the murder in Kosova of UN worker, Dr. Vulentin Krumov.
We are deeply saddened by the murder of Dr. Vulentin Krumov. Our sincere condolences go to his family and friends.
We join Albanians worldwide by denouncing the murder of Dr. Krumov as a senseless, brutal act committed by criminals who should be sought out, arrested, and brought to justice.
It is very unfortunate that random acts of violence in Kosova are blemishing the reputation of Albanians. Throughout their proud history, Albanians have been both tolerant and protective of others. Albanians protected Christians during the Ottoman Empire, Jews during the Holocaust, and Serb religious and historic cites for six centuries. The vast majority of Albanians are tolerant, and they deplore the recent acts of violence in Kosova.
We believe that vigorous law enforcement is needed in Kosova to end hate crimes now being perpetrated by individuals from various ethnic groups. It is imperative that the United Nations Mission in Kosova train and deploy police officers and establish a criminal justice system as soon as possible. Together with continued condemnation by all sides, vigorous law enforcement will help bring these random acts of violence to an end.
