PRIZREN, Yugoslavia (AP) -- The bodies of 14 men, apparently Serbs, were found on a farm road in central Kosovo after a NATO patrol heard shots in the area, a spokesman for the peacekeeping force said Saturday. NATO condemned the killings and appealed for calm.
The grisly report came a day after German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, in the first visit to Kosovo by a Western government leader, pledged moral and material aid to ethnic Albanians and Serbs but told them democracy was the key to their future.

Opfer offenbar Serben - KFOR verurteilt Massaker
Pristina (AP)

KOSOVO AND METOHIA CHRONICLE
Belgrade, July 24, 1999

His Holiness Pavle, the Serbian Patriarch, having been invited by Rt. Rev. Amfilohije, the Metropolitan of Crna Gora and Primorje, has gone to Crna Gora (Montenegro), where he will serve the Holy Pontifical Liturgy in Prevlaka monastery on Sunday, July 25, on the occasion of 780th anniversary of Crna Gora and Primorje Diocese. This morning, a group of 15 Serbs from Djakovica and 6 Serbs from Budisavci, has traveled from the Patriarchate of Pec monastery towards Montenegro.

Owing to generous help of the soldiers from Spanish KFOR contingent, Rt. Rev. Atanasije, hierarch Radenko Zivanovic and monastic David Perovic have been able to visit Istok. They have performed service for the repose of the soul to four Serbs who were found and buried by Spanish soldiers ten days ago. The names of the three killed men are known: Radoje Vulic, Mihajlo Vulic, and Petar Djuric, and the name of the fourth is not known for sure, that is either Stanoje Ljuic or Momo Pumpalovic.

Hvosno Bishop Atanasije, together with hierarch Radenko Zivanovic and monastic David Perovic, has visited Gorioc monastery. In the conversation with the guests the nuns have confirmed that about 20 Serbs were killed in Istok.

Hvosno Bishop Atanasije and his accompaniers, although threatened and obstructed by KLA, have tried to check throughout Istok whether there are some Serbs alive, but they could not find out anything.

Hvosno Bishop Atanasije, hierarch Radenko Zivanovic and monastic David Perovic, have buried in Pec an old woman, born in 1888, and died in a Muslim house.

As the priests from Pristina inform, the situation in the town is still very difficult. Numerous families have moved out, and among them Mrs Vesna Celic, mother of four underage children, whose husband has been kidnapped month and a half ago.

At 21:40 a hand grenade has been tossed at Borivoje Stojanovic's house, near St. Nikola's church in Pristina; the house has been significantly damaged, but, fortunately, nobody has been hurt.

The monument erected in memory of Tzar Lazar has been crashed in Gnjilane

KOSOVO AND METOHIA CHRONICLE
Belgrade, July 23, 1999

His Holiness Pavle, the Serbian Patriarch, Rt. Rev. Artemije, the Bishop of Raska and Prizren, and the associates, have met with German Foreign Minister Gerhard Schroeder in Prizren. During the conversation with Mr Schroeder, Bishop Artemije has presented the oppressive burden of the situation in Kosovo and Metohia, especially pointing out that the Serbs have been being killed, maltreated, kidnapped, that their houses have been being set on fire, and they have been being expelled from their centuries-long hearths. Many Serbian shrines, several centuries old, have been blown up with mine, demolished and violated. Bishop Artemije has requested of Mr Schroeder to urge the stopping of that insane violence. He has especially asked Mr Schroeder to enable the normal functioning of the Theological School in Prizren, reminding him that this Seminary functioned even in the period of the Turkish Empire, so that it would be really incomprehensible that today, in the town under UN protection, this Seminary should be closed.

Father Sava has informed us that, from helicopter, they saw Serbian village Novake completely burned.

His Holiness Pavle, the Serbian Patriarch, accompanied by hierarchs Milutin Timotijevic, head of Prizren Seminary, and Radic Radicevic, has arrived this evening into the Patriarchate of Pec monastery.

Priests from Pristina have informed us that Svetislav Protic from Susice village, near Gracanica, disappeared on Wednesday, July 21; it is presumed he was kidnapped. This afternoon, Milorad Cvetkovic, aged 70, has been stabbed in the street in Pristina; his condition is stable now.

At 18:45, in Ulpijana, Pristina suburb, Tomislav Kasic, aged 65 has been wounded. Today, several Albanians have shot through the closed door at Mrs Suncica Brnzev. Thanks to God only, she is alive, since the bullet passed only couple of millimeters from her. She lives with two little girls in the apartment.

This evening Milica Cistelic's corpse has been found. According to physician's opinion, she was probably killed on Sunday, July 18. The decaying corpse has been found in her apartment.

Fleeing from Albanian terror, a large number of Serbs has moved out of Pristina today too.

KOSOVO AND METOHIA CHRONICLE
Belgrade, July 22, 1999

Rt. Rev. Artemije, the Bishop of Raska and Prizren, and Rt. Rev. Atanasije, the Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, have visited Urosevac today, where they paid a call at demolished St. Uros's church and at burned parish centre. Therefrom they have gone to Vitina village and spoken with priest Dragan Kojic and the remaining Serbs.

Rt. Rev. Atanasije, the Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina has gone to Vrbovac village to express his condolences concerning the murder of Slavko Kojic, to whom the Bishop served the service for the repose of the soul.

From Vitina, the Bishops have gone to Strpce, and talked there with the priest Randjel Denic; they have also visited a group of people from Prizren lodged in a hotel. From Strpce, the Bishops have come back to Gracanica, where they met Serbian Patriarch Pavle, who has arrived today.

The situation in Pristina is still dramatic. Mrs Budislava Milosavljevic from Pristina has informed the priests in Pristina today that her brother Svetomir Dinic, aged 50, was kidnapped from the apartment (near "Bozur" hotel) on July 19.

His Holiness Pavle, the Serbian Patriarch, is again on Kosovo and Metohia; he has been absent for a while, due to the fulfillment of the other obligations in the other parts of the Serbian Orthodox Church. His presence is essentially necessary in any other place as well, since the moral and spiritual crises, which have come over our people, are equally present everywhere.

His Holiness Pavle, the Serbian Patriarch, has visited Gracanica monastery, and tomorrow he will visit Prizren and the Patriarchate of Pec monastery.

Mr Karlos Roberts, International Cooperation Minister from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is in charge of central Europe and Asia, has visited the Patriarchate of Pec monastery this morning. Rt. Rev. Atanasije, the Bishop of Hvosno, and hieromonk Jovan Culibrk have welcomed the guests. Mr Karlos Roberts has said that the International Forces and International Civil Service will stay "for many, many years". Therefore, the International mission in Kosovo and Metohia is resolute to reconstruct all the Serbian and Albanian villages, and to enable the return of all the people expelled from their homes. The reconstruction of villages has to be gradual: village by village. When Rt. Rev. Atanasije, the Bishop of Hvosno, has directly asked whether the Minister contacted Serbian and Yugoslav state authorities on this matter, the Minister answered that he did not, commenting that there would be no use of it - he wants to accomplish this mission in cooperation with Kosovo and Metohia inhabitants. Bishop Atanasije has remarked that the Serbs were driven out of Kosovo and Metohia, and that only clergymen stayed, and clergymen are not politicians, so, the international community should make the efforts to help the clergymen have their congregation back. The Minister agreed.

The spiritual crew of the Patriarchate of Pec monastery has made a plan of cooperation with the Italian soldiers located in Pec, concerning the visit to Crkoles village, most probably on Saturday, July 24. One hundred and fifty Serbs are now in the village; first, when the Albanians attacked, they escaped into the woods and hid there, and afterwards returned to their village.

It has also been planned to pay the visit to Kijevo village, about whose Orthodox church and Serbian homes nothing has been known.

Monastic David Perovic has returned from Budisavci monastery; he has heard unchecked information stating that hieromonk Stefan was kidnapped on July 19 and has been brought into police station in Klina, held by KLA members, where he is under investigation. Italian headquarters in Pec received information on the case, and will undertake investigation. Two buses full of courageous inhabitants of Gorazdevac village have arrived into Gorazdevac village near Pec this evening. The Albanians expelled those people from their hearths in the past few weeks. The Albanians have "welcomed" them in Pec shouting swears, throwing stones and breaking bus windows, but the people have arrived in Gorazdevac and promised to stay there.
