Violence continuing in Kosovo

Drago Dapcevic died today in Pristina, after yesterday wounding at his house doorstep. On Monday, 4 people killed in last two days were buried in Pristina. Along with Dapcevic, Milovan Bojic, Sofija Sopi (Albanian nationality) and Zivorad Vasic were buried. KFOR spokesman said that two days ago 2 people were killed in Kosovo and several people were arrested while attempting robbery or for carrying illegal weapons. Yesterday, one Albanian who tried to stop molesting of two women, was found dead, shot in the head.
KFOR soldiers found yesterday in Pristina one elderly woman dead. The investigation of this "cowardly act" is underway, said KFOR spokesman. In Prizren, three Albanians were arrested while attempting robbery, while two man were arrested for carrying illegal weapons in Suva Reka. They were carrying one rifle, two grenades and ammunition. Several shots were fired on Russian patrol in Kosovska Kamenica, two nights ago. The attackers fled after Russian soldiers opened fire from their APC.
Kosovo Albanian leaders have called off demonstrations at a bridge dividing the northern mining town of Mitrovica, which has been the scene of confrontations with French peacekeeping troops. The protests were cancelled after a plan was drawn up to enable Albanian families to return to their homes in the Serb-dominated part of town across the Ibar River. 25 Albanian families a day would be escorted back to their homes on the north side.

Kosovo & Metohia Events
Belgrade, August 16, 1999

This day chronicles the following sombre events:

Last night in Pristina these men were killed: Milovan Ojdanic, Zivorad Vasic, Dragi Dapcevic…

Having visited today the area of Urosevac, Rt. Rev. Atanasije, the Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, and priest Zivojin Kojic, have informed us of the following situation. In the church of the Holy Archangels in Stimlje, memorial of Princess Ljubica, the whole inventory was set on flames together with iconostasis* which had been wrought by Uros Predic. In Gornje and Donje Nerodimlje, where 170 Serbian families previously lived, now exists not a single one; all Serbian houses were burned or destroyed, as well as the Orthodox churches (there were 5 of them in this area). St. Uros' monastery was blown up with a mine and consequently torn down to the ground. The same happened to the church which was located in the centre of the village; it was dedicated to St. Archangel Michael and was a memorial of King Milutin - the story goes that he passed away in that church. The church of St. Nicola in Donje Nerodimlje was plundered and desecrated; plastic explosive that had not exploded was found in it.
In the church of St. Stephen, the First King, in Donje Nerodimlje, the main gate was destroyed as well as several tombs in the graveyard, the iconostasis was completely burned and the whole church was prepared to be blown up by explosive.
In Urosevac, where there are also no more Serbs - let that serve for respect and praise of the International Community - the great cathedral, dedicated to St. Uros, the Serbian Czar, was desecrated and a part of its inventory was burned. The Orthodox graveyard in Urosevac was also desecrated and many tombs were demolished and smashed.
In Zaskok village, where 60 Serbian families previously lived - now exists none! Naturally, the Orthodox church of St. Petka in this village was torn down. In hamlets Varos and Grlica, in which 80 Serbian families lived not long ago - now lives no one. In the church of St. Elijah the iconostasis was smashed; the Greeks now protect the church.
In Kalinovac village, which numbered 70 Serbian houses some time ago, there are no more Serbs. In the church of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Apostles, the iconostasis was burned as well as the whole interior of the church.
Only 36 faithful (in Stimlje village) have stayed in the whole Urosevac parish; not one church or monastery of 12 existing in this area, have been spared from the Albanian evil doings.
KLA members presented an ultimatum to the Serbs who have stayed in Pozaranje village (15 of them): the Serbs must leave the village till tomorrow at latest.
Three days ago, Dejan Trajkovic and Todor Stankovic, both from Bozinovac village near Bujanovac, disappeared on the road Bujanovac - Gnjilane.
At least two Serbian family houses were plundered in Gnjilane, and several Serbian apartments were moved into by force. Brothers Dragomir Vasic and Cedomir Jeftic were physically tortured…
