Kosovo & Metohia Events

Monk David Perovic has visited the region of Istok on September 11 and 12, and submitted a report to Pravoslavlje Press. Father David has striven, in the first place, to find Rade Radnjic and Ljubomirka Milosavljevic from Istok, the Serbs who disappeared long time ago. Unfortunately, he has not found them. The houses of all Serbian families in Istok (the houses of Ljusic, Milosavljevic, Vulic, Juric, Katic, Fisic, Krstic, Pantic family) were burned to the ground. Where the house used to be, there has usually remained some stone, some metal object, shattered glass and demolished taps in the walls, leaking water.

Father David was informed in Gorioc monastery near Istok that over 40 Serbs disappeared in the region of Istok. There are five men among the killed people who were set on fire together with the pigs in the penal institution in Istok. Before that, they had been tortured for a long time. The names of these poor people are not known; however, the information on their torturing is true: there are witnesses to the crimes, whose identity should not be revealed for the time being. Father David found out that 20 corpses out of 40 mentioned people have been cast in a deep well called 'the Pit' that was covered with concrete after this crime. As three persons (that father David spoke to) have said, hieromonk Stefan Puric, the clergyman of the Holy Transfiguration monastery in Budisavci is among the killed people. Father Stefan was arrested on July 19 in front of his monastery, and since than nothing has been known of him. According to this source of information, father Stefan was brought into Istok where he was exposed to a furious Albanian rabble that humiliated and tortured him.

The Albanian and the American flag are put one beside the other, on a visible place at the approach to Istok, father David has said. Those flags are also put together near Djurakovac and in a village whose name we did not understand well since the communications were pretty bad.

A delegation of the Republic of Srpska numbering three men has visited the Monastery of the Patriarchate of Pec. The delegation has been headed by Mr Jovan Mitrovic, the vice president of the Parliament. The visitors have come to show their deepest respect to the Serbian shrines in this Monastery, and to see how they survive in these difficult times, as well as to find the way to help the Monastery and its dwellers. This has been the first official visit from a Serbian country.

Metropolitan Amfilohije has served today the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the Monastery of the Patriarchate of Pec, and Rt. Rev. Joanikije, the Bishop of Budimlje, has served the Liturgy in Gorazdevac village near Pec.

Father Ilija Smigic, the priest of Prizren parish, has informed Pravoslavlje Press that the Albanians still systematically set on flames Serbian houses in this town. In the densely populated part of the town, two Serbian houses burned two days ago. This evening, two Serbian houses near St. George's church have also been burned down.
