BY
THE SERBIAN POLICE AND OTHER AUTHORITIES IN KOSOVA
FROM 9 NOVEMBER, UNTIL 16 NOVEMBER 1997
9 NOVEMBER:
DEçAN: In the village of Loxha near Peja,
police stopped the wedding guests of Jashar
Balaj from the village of Strellci i Poshtëm
and took the national flag. They also ill-treated
Selman H. Balaj, whose car the flag was in.
MITROVICA: In the outskirts of Skënderaj,
in the way Skënderaj- Mitrovica, five
policemen stopped the wedding guests of Enver
Qerim Xhema (28) from the village of
Klina e Epërme near Skënderaj. They
took the data of Haki Isuf Halili (33) from the village
of Koshutova e Bobit, living in "Tavnik" quarter,
who was driving his car with the national
flag in it, and provoked him.
PRISHTINA: In "Dardania" quarter, masked persons
speaking Serbian plundered 1000
dinars from the private shop own by Ibrahim Gojnovci
(Lismir, 1977), whom they
wounded, and ran away. Ibrahim is in a very deteriorated
condition.
10 NOVEMBER:
PRISHTINA: The security inspectors arrested Shemsi
Perani, secretary of the Albanian
National Democratic Party, and took him to the
"Kum" cafe in çagllavica. He was
subjected to interrogation on activity, programme
and financing of this party.
OBILIQ: On 8 November at this very same today,
Adem Hoti, Bedri Kelmendi and Shefki
Thaçi - the three from the village of
Sibovc, were summoned for "informative talks" at the
police station in Obiliq. Ejup Hashani, an LDK
activist, was taken to the police station for
interrogation on the meeting of LDK in Obiliq
i Ri.
VITIA: At the bus station in Gjilan, a police
squad stopped and checked the identity of Feri
Abazi (1976), a hair-stylist from the village
of Begunca. They found him DM 30, 160
dinars and golden jewellery, and after physically
ill-treating him, police confiscated his
money.
DEçAN: On 8 November, police interrogated
Bedri Kuçi on the whereabouts of his brother
Nexhmedin (1964), who is an asylum- seeker in
Germany. Today, police searched for
weapons at his house.
Police raided the house of Ismajl Muharrem Cacaj
(1961), an agricultural engineer, and
asked for his brother Mustafa, an asylum-seeker
in Germany.
PEJA: Mustafë Azem Ibraj (52), teacher at
the Technical School, "Gjerdapi" str.16, was
summoned for "informative talks" at the Security
Centre as regard the curriculum and the
educational policy.
11 NOVEMBER:
PRISHTINA: Prof.dr. Zenel Kelmendi, former dean
of the Medical Faculty in Prishtina,
member of the Presidency of the LDK, arrested
in Hani i Elezit on 7 November, was
sentenced to a term of 6 months imprisonment
for possessing weapon without permit.
MITROVICA: Three policemen stopped and checked
the identity of Izet Kadri Istrefi (29),
merchant, "Tavnik" quarter, and ordered him to
pay for their dinner and drinks.
GLLOGOC: In the down-town, police checked the
identities of the passers-by and raided
the "Emma" tea-shop and all the business premises
around. Police also checked the
identities of the citizens in other parts of
the town and in the buses.
RAHOVEC: On the pretext that on 6 November some
pupils of the primary school in the
village of Opterusha frightened a Serbian girl,
the following persons were taken for
"informative talks": Urim Qerim Elshani, shepherd;
Melit M. Kabashi, teacher, and his son
Kushtrim, pupil; Arif Latif Bytyçi, Meflid
Hamzë Kabashi and Liridon Hasan Kabashi -
pupils; as well as Liridon's uncle Hysni M. Kabashi.
Today, at the Serbian District Court in
Rahovec, Liridon and his mother, Meflid and his
father Hamzë, were interrogated.
MALISHEVA: Brahim Xh. Shurdhaj (1968) form Banja
was taken for "informative talks"
as regard weapons and was interrogated about
Fatmir Limaj, member of the PPK branch in
Malisheva, who is on the flight since February
of 1997.
12 NOVEMBER:
PRISHTINA: Sali Kelmendi M.A., Editor-In-Chief
of Prishtina Television, was taken for
"informative talks" about his job in the Albanian
Radio-Television.
4 policemen raided the flat of Ilir Bajçinovci
in "Bregu i Diellit" quarter, II/10, and
searched for his brother Avni Bajçinovci,
who fled Kosova 4 years ago.
MITROVICA: On 8 November, 12 policemen raided
the house of Sutki Murat Kosterci
(42), "Tavnik" quarter, a cigarette vendor. As
they failed to find anything, police raided the
house of Habib Kahriman Meholli (48), and confiscated
20 kgs of "Marlboro" cigarettes
estimated to DM 2200.
Today, Sutki and his brother Arif (38) were summoned
for "informative talks".
At the market, policeman called Bozhoviq arrested
Samedin Sadri Ceroviku (16), a
cigarette vendor, "Tavnik" quarter, raided his
house and interrogated his father Sadri (53).
Three policemen searched for cigarettes at the
houses of Shukri Hajrullah Abazi (41) and
Fadil Latif Morina (45), "Shipol" quarter, and
arrested Shukri.
In the vicinity of the bus station in Mitrovica,
three policemen checked the identities of,
took the data and provoked Agron Emin Haziri
(19) and his nephew Rafet Brahim Selimi
(19) from the village of Kuqica near Skënderaj.
DEçAN: About 30 policemen raided the houses
of Arif D. Kadrijaj (58) and Isuf H.
Kadrijaj (49), worker, Hysni Dukaj in Dranoc
and Xhemajl D. Dukaj (50) in Deçan, teacher
at "Lidhja e Prizrenit" Primary School. During
the raid policemen behaved brutally,
demolished the furniture and arrested Arif, Isuf
and Xhemajl.
The same policemen raided the house of Selim
Lokaj, who is being tried at the Serbian Run
District Court in Prishtina. They ordered his
son Petrit to hand over weapons, took the
national flag and some newspapers in Albanian.
PRISHTINA: A policeman stopped Agim Lushaku,
a worker from the village of Konushefc
near Podujeva, insulted him, threatened him,
physically ill-treated and injured him.
PODUJEVA: Police entered the private hotel and
catering owned by Sabit Hoti, Esat
Mehmeti and Fehmi Krasniqi. They checked the
identities of the guests, among whom was
Sylejman Blaku, secretary of sub-CDHRF in Podujeva,
whose membership card and some
documents of the Council were taken, and Hasan
Përvetica, reporter of Albanian daily
"Koha Ditore".
PEJA: In a cafe in town, two policemen arrested
Ukë R. Kelmendi from Qyshk, secretary
of District Financial Council in Peja, and Remzi
Krasniqi, principal of "Pjetër Budi"
Primary School in Poçesta, took them to
the police station. There, they were ill- treated and
insulted and after 30 minutes they were released.
KAMENICA: A group of policemen blocked the roads
Crepana-Rogaçica, Karaçeva-
Rogaçica and Hogosht-Rogaçica,
stopped and plundered things from the citizens.
Sulejman Morina (Hodonoc, 1956), chairman of
LDK sub-branch in Hodonoc, was taken
for "informative talks" about the elections in
LDK, students' protests and some political
activists.
Sadullah S. Ahmeti (Hodonoc, 1970), chairman
of the LDK branch Youth Forum in
Kamenica, was taken for "informative talks" about
the same issues.
13 NOVEMBER:
LIPJAN: Isa Bahtiri (1950), teacher, educational
adviser and an LDK activist, "Stanko
Buriq" str.12, was taken for "informative talks"
to the Security Centre in Lipjan regarding
his activities at school and at the LDK, students'
protests, forthcoming elections, PPK and
its chairman Adem Demaçi, the participation
of his father Mustafa in the protest of 1
October in Prishtina, as well as the Kosova Liberation
Army.
GLLOGOC: Police raided and arrested brothers
Arsim (1972) and Besim Muja (1975), as
well as Sylë Bardiqi (1932), retarded, all
three from Gradica. The reason of their arrest is
unknown. Arsim and Besim were released, whereas
Syla was sent to Prishtina Prison.
MITROVICA: Police stopped Vehbi Shaban Haziri
(26) from Kaqandoll, living in Zhabari
i Poshtëm, checked and ordered him to tell
his brother Basri, who is currently living in
Germany, to report to the police station.
VUSHTRRI: Police searched for weapons at the
house of Xhafer Qamil Duraku (1963) in
Strovc. He and Isa Elez Aliu (60) were ordered
to report to the police station.
VITIA: Gani Neziri (1958) from Sllatina e Poshtme,
vice-chairman of the sub-CDHRF in
Vitia, was interrogated at the police station
for more than five hours regarding the activity
of the sub-CDHRF and the PPK.
GJAKOVA: About 7 or 8 gangsters from Albania
looted the houses of Rrustem Ukë Salaj
(70), whom they murdered, and of Pal Kolë
Pepaj. They also fired bullets at the house of
Rrustem's son Gëzim. The gangsters demolished
doors and windows and made a complete
mess. Serbian police did not intervene to protect
the villagers.
MALISHEVA: A police squad accompanied by an armoured
car was stationed in the
vicinity of Bubavec and checked the vehicles
passing by.
Lundrim Selman Kryeziu (22) from Kijeva was summoned
to the police station in Klina
and was ordered to report on 19 November. Prior
to this, Lundrim had been taken to the
police station and was severely ill-treated regarding
his participation in the students'
protests in Peja on 29 October.
Xhemajl Brahim Shurdhaj from Banja, former physical
worker in Slovenia, has been taken
to the police station in Suhareka for 15 times
since 25 October. He was interrogated about
Lulzim Shurdhaj and Fatmir Limaj. Now, he is
being asked for weapons.
HANI I ELEZIT: Due to confiscated smuggled cigarettes,
police severely ill-treated
brothers Mexhit and Kenan Dernjani; Xhemil, Rufki,
Abedin and Irfan Daci; Selman, Avni
and Nesim Curri; Blerim and Agron Loku; Ekrem
Rogaqi; Hamdush Topojani and Naser
Shkreta.
Police seized goods from the following vendors:
Ismail Bushi and Afrim Axhami. They
also seized goods from Shaip Surri in front of
his shop.
14 NOVEMBER:
VUSHTRRI: Police arrested Shaqir Arif Haliti and
fired bullets in the direction of
Ramadan Riza Ymeri, both from Balinca. Ramadan
managed to escape.
Police searched for Fadil Ymeri, who is currently
living in Germany.
GLLOGOC: Police raided a store house of the Humanitarian
ë Charitable Association
"Mother Theresa".
PRISHTINA: In front of the court building, police
stopped, checked the identity of and
took DM 10 from Ilir Drenjani, student from Hani
i Elezit.
16 NOVEMBER:
SUHAREKA: Unidentified persons damaged the grave
of Besim Ndrecaj in Malësia e Re.
Two years ago, Besim was killed by Serbian police.
Prior to this, he had killed a policeman
who had come to arrest him at his office.
DELAYED INFORMATION:
KLINA: On 4 November, in the village of Sferka,
two policemen searched for Dinë Zeqë
Gashi (1954), recently repatriated from Germany.
On 7 November, in Pogragja near Klina, police
stopped the car driven by Dedë Paloka,
archaeologist from Prishtina. Policeman Zharko
Stojanoviq checked the identities of all
Deda's companions: prof.dr. Abdurrahman Ramaxhiku,
neuro-psychiatrist from Prishtina;
Ramadan Krasniqi (1950) from Zajm, chairman of
sub-CDHRF in Klina, Ilaz D. Selimi
(1957) from Açareva near Skënderaj,
member of the board of the sub-CDHRF, both
teachers at "Luigj Gurakuqi" Secondary School
in Klina; Miftar B. Krasniqi (1957) from
çabiq, associate of the District Financial
Council in Klina and Elmi J. Krasniqi (1950) from
çabiq, employed at the Clinic of Neuropsychiatry
in Prishtina.
PEJA: On 5 November, a police squad of over 20
policemen searched for weapons at the
house of Rexhep Haxhi Zekaj (70). Police demolished
house furniture. Rexhep's son Riza
was subjected to severe ill-treatment in the
presence of his mother, arrested and later on
released.
VUSHTRRI: On 5 November, a police squad searched
for weapons at the house of Sinan
Haziri (68). Failing to find any, Sinan was left
an order to report to the police station in
Stan Tërg. He was interrogated and severely
ill-treated. Due to injuries suffered, he had to
seek medical help.
OBILIQ: On 6 November, Ferat Sadri Mjekiqi (1931)
from Grabovc i Epërm was
summoned for weapons to the police station in
Obiliq. The next day, his son Nasuf (1960),
mining technician and an LDK activist, was summoned,
too, and apart for weapons, was
interrogated about the activity of the LDK and
the Kosova Liberation Army. He was
ordered to report again on 13 November.
On 8 November, policemen raided the house of
Bajram Mehani (1956) from Bakshia, who
is currently living abroad. Police demolished
house furniture and seized two video tapes.
GLLOGOC: On 6 November, at the Vërbnica
border-cross with Albania, Driton Adem
Sejdiu, living in "Ferronikel" quarter, was arrested.
Driton studies at the Dental Faculty in
Tirana. He was kept there for one day, severely
ill-treated and suffered injuries on all parts
of his body.
DRAGASH: On 7 November, Samidin Muhamedi from
Bresna near Opoja, former political
prisoner, teacher at "28 Nëntori" Primary
School, was summoned for "informative talks" to
the security centre in Dragash and interrogated
on his educational activity, as well as
political activity in the village.
GJILAN: Shefik Selimi (1967), engineer, "A.Presheva"
str.269, member of the board of the
LDK branch Youth Forum, was taken for "informative
talks" regarding the students' protest
of 29 October in Gjilan and forthcoming elections
in LDK branch. He was told to co-
operate with the police. On refusing, he was
physically ill- treated. This is the fourth time
that he has been summoned for "informative talks"
and subjected to physical and
psychological ill-treatment. For injuries suffered,
he presented the physician's report.
