FROM 26 MARCH UNTIL 29 MARCH, 1998
After the Serbian police
attack on 24 March in Gllogjan and other Albanian villages of
the district of Deçan, Himë Rasim
Haradinaj (17) from Gllogjan village was found dead
between the village Shaptej and the lake of Radoniq.
Meanwhile, on 26 March, the following arrested
persons were released: Smajl Sylë
Nimanaj (70) and Shaban Ramë Zeqiraj (55),
pensioners; Besim Azem Haradinaj (40),
Rifat Azem Haradinaj (35), Beqir Haxhi Haradinaj,
Mehmet Arif Bajramaj (35), Mustafë
Sherif Ramaj (35), Imer Haki Dervishaj (31),
all of them farmers; Shemsedin Rexhep
Haradinaj (30), a worker; Lanë Sadri Halilaj,
a driver; Bege Haxhi Haradinaj and Atifete
Zekë Haradinaj (20), housewives, all of
them from the village of Gllogjan; Zenel Lanë
Dobraj (33), a farmer from the village of Gramaçel.
Duly, we have no information on the whereabouts
of Rasim Muhamet Selmanaj, editor-in-
chief with "Zgjimi" magazine, a former political
prisoner and former chairman of the Youth
Forum of the LDK branch in Deçan, who
was arrested with 13 above mentioned persons
on 24 March.
EVENTS IN DRENICA REGION AND SURROUND
26 MARCH:
SKëNDERAJ: Three
weeks after the massacre exerted on family Jasharaj in the village
of Prekaz i Poshtëm, the destiny of 8-member-family
of Sadik Jashari who remained in the
basement of their destroyed house is yet unknown.
It is supposed that they died due to the
tear-gas, artillery and fire. The houses of Jasharaj
quarter are still controlled by large
Serbian police forces who did not allow anybody
to approach the spot.
In the meantime, we
have been receiving information on the aftermath of the police
attack in 20 villages of Drenica region. Therefore,
we were informed that the village Kopiliq
i Poshtëm was attacked by artillery and
afterwards infantry regiment entered the village
and demolished and looted every thing left. The
village is almost empty as most of the
villagers left, while those who did not manage
to leave, mainly elderly and children, were
insulted on a moral and national basis, and were
severely ill-treated: Istref Shala (75), Riza
Isufi (70), Rrahman Shala (60), Beqir Shala (60)
and others.
The houses of the following persons were attacked,
destroyed or burned up: Ilaz Aliu,
Hysen Shala, Dibran Gashi, Demush Shala, H. Mala,
etc.
Many cars, tractors and other working-machines
were demolished.
Serbian police looted golden jewelleries and
foreign currency in the village.
Selë Hajdini (56)
from the village of Broja was wounded due to grenade explosion and
is under medical care in Peja, while Shefqet
Hajdini (60) and Fazli Hajdini (70) were
physically ill-treated.
GLLOGOC: Last night,
fire shootings were heard in the direction of the village of
Marina. A column of the Serbian police vehicles
with state security inspectors went through
Gllogoc towards Skënderaj singing chetnic
songs. Two helicopters flew low towards
Prishtina.
MITROVICA: Police vehicles
went towards Skënderaj. Police set up a check-point in
the village of Shupkofc.
27 MARCH:
SKëNDERAJ: Drenica
region is still under besiegement. The target of the Serbian
forces and snipers are the villagers of Llausha,
Marina, Kopiliq, Broja, Açareva, Turiqec,
Vojnik and other villages. Several houses of
the villages Açareva, Broja and Kopiliq were
burned up due to the grenades attack. Humanitarian
aid hardly get through into the region.
GLLOGOC: In downtown
Gllogoc, sporadic shootings were heard. Police vehicles
came from Komoran and went towards Skënderaj.
Whereas from Gllogoc, police vehicles
went to Baica village and caused panic among
the villagers. A number of inhabitants of the
villages Gllobar and Tërstenik left towards
Gradica village.
At the check-point in
Komoran, police physically ill-treated Artan A. Thaçi (1983) and
Behxhet Thaçi (1980) threatening them
with knives.
28 MARCH:
PRISHTINA: Mons Niberg,
UNCHR press officer, declared that about 20.000
Albanians, Muslims and Gypsies fled the surrounded
area. Many houses are deserted. In
some villages of Drenica, only elderly, who take
care of the cattle, remained in the houses.
"Prekaz has been transformed into Vukovar", he
said. Police is still present in the area,
although it is said that special units have withdrawn.
OTHER INFORMATION
26 MARCH:
KAÇANIK: Adnan
Muhamet Fuga, chairman of the Youth Forum of the LDK branch in
Kaçanik, was taken for informative talks
at the Security Centre. He was subjected to
interrogation on the activity of the Forum, relations
with political and non-political
organizations and associations.
PRISHTINA: In the vicinity
of a bus station in "Miladin Popoviq" st., a Serb hooligan
accompanied by two friends, physically attacked
Mimoza Bunjaku (1980), a student with
"Eqrem Çabej" Phylological High School,
"Marigona e Kosovës" st.33A. When her friends
Valdete Berisha (1981) from Sllatina e Madhe
and Lule Kastrati (1981) from Matiçan made
an effort to help her, the hooligan attacked
them, too, threatening and insulting them on a
national basis, until an Albanian passer-by intervened.
After that, the hooligan ran away,
whereas his friends went into a cafe. The three
girls suffered injuries.
Police searched for
weapons at the house of Mehmet Beka (65), "Drenica I" st.243,
and asked about his sons, in particular Liman,
who is currently living in Germany.
GJILAN: Three civilians
and a policeman stopped, checked the identity of and beat up
Menderes Zeqiri (1968), a technician from Haxhaj
village. In the end, they took DM 50
from him and released him.
MITROVICA: Many policemen
and civilians have been patrolling in the streets of the
town. Serbian policemen provoked the pupils with
"Migjeni" Primary School, approaching
the school by car and asking the pupils for the
previous names of the streets.
BUJANOC: The last two
days, Ekrem Xhemaili, chairman of the sub-branch of the
Party for Democratic Action in Letovica village,
was taken to the police station and
physically ill-treated allegedly for weapons.
27 MARCH:
SHTIME: Shefqet Krasniqi
from Belinc village, a teacher with "Idriz Ajeti" Primary
School in Petreshtica village, was taken to the
Security Centre in Ferizaj on 26 and 27
March. He was severely ill-treated and threatened
with imprisonment as a "possible
organizer" of the Albanians' demonstrations.
Under the same motive, his brother Fetah
Krasniqi was summoned to the police station.
GJILAN: Military vehicles
passed through Haxhaj village and went towards Stançiq
village on the border with Macedonia.
On getting off the bus,
Ridvan Rexhepi (1978) from the village Tërnoc i Vogël near
Bujanoc, a student with Medressah in Gjilan,
was caught by police. They beat him up on
the pretext that he had taken part in the peaceful
protests in Gjilan.
MITROVICA: Policemen
chased Brikenë Jakup Ceraja (17), "Tavnik" quarter, in order
to frighten and provoke her.
PRISHTINA: Police stopped,
checked the identity of and ill-treated Arben Xh. Shabani
(1979), a student from Baica village near Gllogoc,
only because he was from Drenica
region. They also looted 400 dinars from him.
28 MARCH:
GJAKOVA: At about 4.00
a.m., a plane of armed forces of Yugoslav Army flew very low
over Gjakova territory and the area on the border
with Albania. At about 12.00 p.m., a
convoy of military and police forces from Gjakova,
was situated in Kodra e Hasit village,
seven kilometres away from the town. At about
2.00 p.m., a helicopter flew over the town,
whereas movements of police forces were noticed
in the streets of the town.
GJILAN: About 30 policemen
and inspectors blocked the shops of Albanian jewelers
and confiscated golden and silver jewelleries
estimated to DM 80.000. They looted 1,800
gr gold from Besnik Pajaziti; 1.660 gr from Osman
Osmani; 0.480 gr gold and 0.700 gr
silver from Avdi Haziri; 0.311 gr gold and 0.610
gr silver from Xhemail Bajrami; 0.400 gr
gold from Sabri Ibrahimi; 0.400 gr gold from
Enver Maksuti; 0.140 gr gold from Senad Aliu.
All of them were taken to the police station.

KLINA: Police physically
ill-treated the following: (on 20 February) Ramë Bajram Jahaj
(1976) from Grabanica; Pal Gjokaj (1946), a taxi
driver from Zllakuqan; (on 1 March) Afrim
(1970) and his sister Sinavere Bojaj from Kërrnica;
(on 2 March) Tahir L. Abazaj (1954)
from Gllareva; (on 3 March) Bedri Bojaj (1968)
from Kërrnica (tried to make him swallow a
piece of "koha Ditore" newspaper); Gani H. Gashi
(38) from Zajm; Ahmet Doçi from
Kërrnica; Daut Berisha from Qeskova, a teacher
with "Luigj Gurakuqi" Gymnasium in
Klina; Nezir Ahmetgjekaj, a worker with PTT in
Klina; dr. Marjan Jani from Renoc, a
physician with the Health Care in Klina; Gjokë

Madhe, was stopped, provoked and ill-treated
psychologically in Klina by Danillo Perishiq;
(on 10 March) Haki F. Dakaj (1965) from Cerrovik
(his wife Hajrije was threatened and
insulted); (on 11 March) Fadil A. Sheremetaj
(1957), Hamdi D. Limanaj (1960), Kushtrim
G. Limanaj, a pupil with the secondary school
in Prizren - all from Cerrovik; (on 18 March)
Sadik J. Berisha (1950) from Volljak (was hit
by a police car); Rrustë H. Gashi, Faik R.
Gashi and Kajtaz A. Gashi - from Sferka; Sadri
Doçi and his wife; Fatos H. Raci, Genc P.

Berisha (1982) from Përqeva, a pupil with
"Luigj Gurakuqi" Gymnasium in Klina, while he
was going to school.
On 2 March, at about
2.00 after midnight, a blast was heard in the vicinity of the house
of Hasan Shala in Dollova. At about 6.00 a.m.,
Serbian policemen and civilians
surrounded the houses of Hasan and Zeqir Shala,
entered the house-yards and physically
ill-treated their family members and several
villagers.
On 4 March, Ismet G. Raci, a teacher with "Motrat
Qiriazi" Primary School and an LDK
activist, was stopped and psychologically ill-treated
at the police checkpoint in Dollc village.
On 5 March, at the cafe "Triumf", three policemen
arrested Maxhun Smajli from Potërç
village, a correspondent with daily "Koha Ditore",
and Marjan Përlaskaj, member of the
District Financial Council. They were severely
ill-treated at the local police station in Klina
and suffered physical injuries.
In Dollova village, armed Serbian civilians Zhivan,
Miqo, Stanko and Gariq accompanied
by the policeman Çedo Gariq - all from
Dollova, stopped and ill-treated their Albanian
neighbours Kadri, a teacher, and Sahit Sahiti.
On 6 March, two armed plainclothed policemen
went into the houses of Nazmi and Imer
Dushi and severely ill-treated them.
On 19 March, after the
Albanians' peaceful protests, some armed Serbs, among whom
Igor Bracanoviq, chased some students with "Luigj
Gurakuqi" Gymnasium and forced
them to jump into Drini i Bardhë River.
The students could hardly survive from drowning.
Three Serbian hooligans, among whom Pizhon Pavlloviq,
attacked and threatened
Rrustem Sverka (1955), a teacher with "Luigj
Gurakuqi" Gymnasium, associate with Sub-
CDHRF.
On 20 March, Serbian
demonstrators attacked Asllan Krasniqi MA, principal with "Luigj
Gurakuqi" Gymnasium and an LDK activist, Ramadan
Krasniqi, a teacher, chairman of
Sub-CDHRF in Klina, and some students with the
Gymnasium.
Apart from cheering
anti-Albanian slogans, insulting and threatening Albanians, Serbian
demonstrators broke the store windows and windows
of the houses of the following
persons: Hajriz Elezi, Feriz Elezi, Pashk Gjideda,
Milazim Tahiri, dr. Ukë Berisha, Venera
Mehmetaj, Kristë Berisha, Dedë Dedaj,
Hysen Gashi, Avni Godanci, Pashtrik Krasniqi,
Nikollë Grabanica, Ton Dedaj, Sylë
Gashi, Besim Morina, Bajram Abazi, Zef Nikollë
Grabanica, Rifat Morina, Halil Kryeziu, Marjan
Përlaskaj, Pal Mrijaj, Misin Berisha, Qamil
Berisha, Bajram Kryeziu, Kristë Beka, Enver
Hoti, Llesh Prenaj, Vesel Kryeziu, Ramë
Morina, Ton D. Dedaj and Matë M.?
A Serbian threatened
and ill-treated Dardan Ahmet Isufi, a pupil with "Motrat Qiriazi"
Primary School, whereas police arrested Idriz
Dushi, a pensioner, and his son Burim, as
well as dr. Ukë Berisha, a physician, chairman
of Charitable ë Humanitarian Association
"Mother Theresa" in Klina and member of the Presidency
of the Albanian Demochristian
Party. They were arrested while taking photos
of broken windows. After two hours, the
very same were released, but police took camera
films from Uka.
On 20 March, Kërsta
Gjurishiq, police commander, and policeman Milosheviq raided
the house of Shaban Berisha, a pensioner from
Grabanica, on the pretext of searching for
his grandson Agron Vishaj from Llugagjia. They
also searched for weapons, insulted the
family members and arrested Shaban and his son
Ali (1967). After being interrogated,
both were released.
GLLOGOC: On 28 February,
in Baks near Skënderaj, police severely ill-treated Ymer
Krasniqi (1962) from Gllanasella, until he fainted.
On 1 March, after the massacre in Qirez and Likoshan,
police forces shot in the direction
of the premises of "Arif Shala" Primary School
in Korrotica e Poshtme and broke the
windows.
On 21 March, at the
checkpoint in Komoran, police ill-treated Shaban Hajredin Thaçi
(1982), a student with Technical Secondary School,
whereas on 25 March, in Prishtina,
police severely ill-treated Shpëtim Naim
Gashi (1981) from Gllogoc, a student with "Prenk
Jakova" Music High School - only because they
are from Drenica region.
RAHOVEC: On 7, 9, 19
and 22 March, Damjan (1967), a Serb, insulted and threatened
his Albanian neighbour Vera Haxhijaha (1976),
a dressmaker from Rahovec, employed in
Prishtina. Damjan's mother threatened Vera with
her brother's imprisonment.
OBILIQ: On 10 March,
Tahir B. Mjekiqi was summoned at the police station and
sentenced to a prison term of 30 days for being
in possession of weapon.
On 19 March, after the protests, police stopped,
checked the identities of and ill-treated
passengers. Ahmet Krasniqi (41), a pensioner,
was subjected to physical ill-treatment at
the police checkpoint in Nedakoc near Vushtrri.
PRISHTINA: On 11 March,
compulsory authorities closed down "Belti" fast food store in
"Kragujevci" st., and fined Feti Gashi (1957),
the owner, with 2100 dinars, due to his
participation in the protests of 9 March.
On 19 March, after the protests, police ill-treated
Avdi Zabeli (1979) from Lummadh near
Vushtrri and caused him injuries.
On 23 March, in Veternik, police stopped and
physically ill-treated Ali Hertica, "Tenezhdoll"
st., a journalist and chairman of the Cultural
Charitable Association "Bashkimi".
GJILAN: On 15 March,
some policemen ill-treated Xhelal Sylejmani (1955), a worker
with "Metallac" Enterprise, "Ramiz Sadiku" st.XIV/1,
and caused him injuries.
On 19 March, about 18 policemen searched for
weapons at the house of Shaban Sahiti
(1945), an electrician, "Prishtina" st.260, and
physically ill-treated Shaban, his son Bekim
(21) and their guest Aziz Gagica (1961), a technician,
"A. Ajeti" st.10/2. Shaban's
daughters Florije (17) and Afërdita (9)
were subjected to psychological ill-treatment.
Shaban and Aziz were taken to the police station,
where they were ill-treated again. After
the protests, some policemen severely ill-treated
Vesel Kqiku (1930), a farmer from
Velekinca.
On 20 March, a police
inspector interrogated Ruzhdi Selimi (1956) from Nasala, a
driver with "Mladost" Enterprise in Gjilan and
an LDK activist. He was questioned on the
LDK activity in Nasala and Lladova, the elections
of 22 March and the organization of aids
for Drenica.
Ramadan Zeqiri (1955), an economist with "Integj"
Plant, an activist with Social-
Democratic Party of Kosova, "Kamnik" quarter
AS/21/7, was summoned for informative
talks. Police inspector interrogated him on his
political activity, the discussion of Kaqusha
Jashari at the meeting in Gjilan, the deputies
of the assembly, the elective commissions
and organizers of the last protests.
On 23 March, three policemen arrested Enver Qerimi
(1972) from Vërbica e Zhegocit. He
was subjected to physical ill-treatment at the
police station for his participation in protests.
He was also questioned whether he and his fellow
citizens had voted or not. The next day,
he was ordered to report to the police station
in Gjilan.
PODUJEVA: On 18 March,
the police arrested Sheqir Berisha, a teacher with the
"Shaban Shala" Primary School, and Bajram Islami.
Sheqir was subjected to physical ill-
treatment.
On 18 March, Fehmi Paqarada (45) from Dumosh
village was arrested allegedly for
weapons, whereas the next day, his uncle Avdi
Paqarada was physically ill-treated.
On 19 March, in Millosheva village near Obiliq,
the following persons were physically ill-
treated by police: Shaip Feta (1979) from Penuh
village; Berat Raçi (1980) from Podujeva;
Gëzim Sada (1979) from Llapashtica e Epërme
village; Senad Qosja (1980) from Sibovc
village near Obiliq.
PEJA: During the peaceful
protests on 18 March, there were physically ill-treated also:
Besnik N. Basha (45), "M. Tito" st.; Sadri Fazli
Ahmetaj (1947), "Dardania I" quarter;
Shemsedin Haxhaj, Xhavit Çufaj (1969);
Gani Çufaj (1977), Bujar Hasani (1976), Jeton
Hasani (1979); Burim Hasani (1976); Edian R.
Berisha (1974), all of them living at
"Dardania II" quarter; Besnik Q. Dobraj (16),
"R. Buriq" st.25, injured on his head; Zenel H.
Abazaj, "R. Buriq" st.98, (at about 10.30 p.m.,
unknown persons threw a bomb at his
house); Denis A. Berisha (1978), "R. Batusha"
st.92/8, all of them from Peja; Ibish U.
Bytyçi (1950) and Mehmet R. Bytyçi
(1971), both from Poçesta village; Ilir M. Nimani (20)
from Gllaviçica village; Skënder
I. Mekaj (1959) from Vitomirica village, Adem A. Shala
(35) from Ruhot village, whereas Blerim Sefaj
(24) from Novosella village was physically ill-
treated; on 19 March, Ilir D. Hasani (1977);
Bujar D. Hasani (1976) and Jeton D. Hasani
(1975), were beaten in front of their house;
Florim Çufaj (1976) - all of them living at
"Dardania II" quarter; on 20 March, Rexhep Z.
(67) and his son Driton R. Istrefaj (22),
"Leningradi" st.4; Halil U. Lajqi (1966) from
Fusha e Pejës; Bujar M. Kasapolli (1964), who
suffered physical injuries.
On 20 March, six masked
and armed persons stopped, physically ill-treated, naked him
and put him into the water Ibish I. Muja from
Zllopek village.
On 21 March, in the bus in the outskirts of the
town, the police physically ill-treated Hasime
Latifi from Lipa village and tore her ID.
On 22 March, around 10.00 p.m., 3 police cars
and an armored vehicle were settled at the
local police station of Qallapek village.
On 23 March, at the police check point at the
cross-road Peja-Rozhaja, police violently
withdrew every passenger, checked their identities
and tore up the IDs of Dinë Bërdynaj
(43) and Shefqet Brahimaj, both of them from
Novosella village; Rasim Sadrijaj (28), mute
from Radavc village, and Ylber Avdylaj (1978)
were kept tied to the electric pillars for 20
minutes threatening them to death.
At the railway-station, the police arrested Ukë
Tahiri (1969), "Astronautët" st.11, and
physically ill-treated him at the Security Centre.
On 24 March, four policemen led by a Serbian
civilian named Bato, and another group of
people took photos of the "Lidhja e Pejës"
Primary School in Novosella village.
On 25 March, at the cross-road Lozha - Bërzhenik,
the police stopped a bus, checked the
identities of the passengers and physically ill-treated
Rrustem D. Kastrati (36) from
Dobërdol village; Burim M. Berisha (17)
from Llozhan village, Kreshnik Rr. Kelmendi (16)
from Graboc village; Sali B. Nikqi from Nabërgjan
village.
SHTIME: On 18 March,
Bekim Halili, a student with "Naim Frashëri" High School, was
taken by police in the street, and was physically
ill-treated at the police station, and
threatened with a rifle.
On 21 March, the police severely ill-treated
brothers Xhevdet and Dibran Sadiku, who
were carrying timbers for Charitable ë Humanitarian
Association "Mother Theresa".
MITROVICA: On 18 March,
in the vicinity of the Green Market, the police stopped Isak
Imer Rushiti (23) from Gushafc village near Mitrovica,
confiscated 70 cigarette boxes from
him. He was also taken to the police station
and interrogated about the protests.
On 25 March, the police confiscated 200 cigarette
boxes, 330 dinars and DM 30 from
Jahja Imer Rushiti (21) and beat him up.
KAMENICA: On 19 March,
in the entrance of the town, police stopped a bus of "Mens"
Firm from Karaçeva village, ordered the
passengers to raise three fingers (a Serbian
symbol). They physically ill-treated Aziz Kastrati,
a driver from Karaçeva village, and Ali
Kastrati, an engineer from Kamenica, who refused
to do that.
Under the same pretext, after the protest, a
Serbian policeman physically ill-treated Avdi
Canaj (1947) from Koretin village. Police physically
ill-treated: Ali Kastrati from Karaçeva,
Edvit Kryeziu from Rogoçica village, Rexhep
L. Leci (1977), Afrim Leci (1969) and Florim
Leci (1978) from Gmica village.
PRIZREN: On 19 March,
after the protests, Avdyl Ramë Dakaj (1938) from Korishta
village was subjected to severe physical ill-treatment
at the police check point in the village
of Lubizhda.
Five policemen raided the house of Salajdin Ismajli
(1953), a pensioner from the village of
Lubizhda on the pretext that he had offered shelter
to escapees from Drenica region.
On 21 March, at the
police check-point in the vicinity of Vushtrri, the police stopped a
bus from Rashka circulating on the direction
Mitrovica-Prishtina, forced out Florije Krasniqi
and her 3-year-old child from Vukovc village
near Gllogoc, who was coming back from
Skënderaj. Ever since, we have no information
on their whereabouts.
MALISHEVA: On 25 March,
Agron Gashi, a teacher and an LDK activist from the
village Kijeva, was subjected to physical ill-treatment
at the police check-point in Dollc
village near Klina, who has been denounced by
his Serbian neighbours that allegedly "he
is following the activities of police".
Gani Zulfaj from Senik village, was physically
ill-treated at the police check-point in Kijeva.
FERIZAJ: On 25 March,
Nehat Reka (27) from Fshati i Vjetër village, was arrested on
the pretext that he had participated in the peaceful
protests and was physically ill-treated.
BUJANOC: On 25 March,
at around 10.30 a.m., two Serbian policemen, made record
of the quarters of the village Konçul
dwelled by Albanians and other parts of the village.
Having been noticed by passers-by, the policemen
left towards Bujanoc. Besides, in this
village police fire shootings have become frequent.
The police arrested Ekrem Xhemaili
from Letovica village allegedly for weapons,
an activist of the Party for Democratic Action.
He was sent to the local police station of Bujanoc,
physically ill-treated and ordered to
report again the following day.
