THE SERBIAN POLICE AND OTHER AUTHORITIES IN KOSOVA
FROM MAY 14 UNTIL MAY 21, 1998
More killed, wounded, arrested, kidnapped and
ill-treated people, burnt, demolished, destroyed and looted houses, killed
cattle are reported in Kosova.
On May 21, during the attack of the Serbian forces
against the villages of Klina, Arben Aziz Halitaj (22) from Jashanica e
Epërme was killed.
On May 22, Brahim Ahmet Ukaj (75) and Bajram
Demë Kastrati were killed in their houses in the village of Zajm.
The very same day, Isuf Rexhë Morina (45) was killed in the village
of Grabanica, 4 Albanians were wounded, 11 houses were burnt and the "Azem
Bejta" Primary School was shelled. Haxhi Sutë Fazlia (62) was wounded
in Bokshiq.
On May 24, Serbian police and paramilitary forces
killed Rrustem Zeqiri (26) from Bokshiq, a person mentally disturbed.
The villages of Zajm, Grabanicë, Dellovë,
Këpuz and Çeskovë are kept under a complete blockade of
the Serbian police and paramilitary forces. Grabanica, Dellova, Bokshiq
and Zajm were turned into ruins and it is supposed that there are many
casualties.
There are large movements of police and military
forces.
Reinforcements are brought to the regions in
which the clashes are happening and to the villages on the border with
Albania.
The supplying of the population with food has
deteriorated due to the police blockade. In Prishtina, police seized a
considerable amount of goods from the "Mother Theresa" Humanitarian ë
Charitable Association. In Gjakova, police raided the "Merturi" and "Niki"
private enterprises and blocked the warehouses of the "Mother Theresa"
Association. Many trucks loaded with goods were stopped at the police check-points
on the border with Kosova.
MAY 21:
PRISHTINA: Foreign agencies which refer to the
"Tanjug" news agency inform that a MIG 21 plane fell 20 km to the North-West
of Prishtina. The pilot escaped unharmed.
In "Vëllazërim Bashkim" st., the traffic
policeman named Vaske hit Hajrullah Kosumi (1936), a taxi driver, living
in "Robert Gajdiku" st. 203/A, on his head. He was hit with the butt of
the automatic gun, insulted on a national and moral basis and was called
a "terrorist".
DEÇAN: The situation in the district of
Deçan continues to be grave. There was shooting and shelling towards
the village of Baballoç. The town continues to be blocked. Police
and military forces are parading through the town in a show of power. The
situation is very grave especially in the villages on the border with Albania
and in Junik. Armed refugees are participating in the attacks against the
Albanian villages. Weapons were taken to the Clothing Factory in Junik.
Agron Aliçkaj (42), a lawyer from the
village of Carrabreg i Poshtëm near Deçan, was taken out of
the bus at the police check- point in Baballoç and was arrested.
GLLOGOC: Police intervened in the PPK branch
in Gllogoc. 5 copies of the "Bulletin" of the CDHRF were seized.
In the Bajraktari quarter, Ramadan Meha (56)
from the village of Prekaz i Poshtëm was brutally beaten-up by the
police. DM 100 were looted from him.
KLINA: In Krusheva e Madhe, one Serb was killed
and two were wounded. According to the Albanian villagers of Krusheva these
casualties are a result of an inter-Serb fight. In the meantime, Serbian
police entered the Palushaj quarter. 4 houses were raided and demolished.
A shop was burnt. Prenk Palushi, his son Kastriot Palushi and their neighbor
Pashk Kabashi from Krusheva e Madhe as well as Filip Berisha from Dobërdol
were arrested and physically ill-treated. Women, children and elderly are
abandoning their houses in Zllakuçan, Krusheva e Madhe and
Budisalc. Large police forces were concentrated in Gjurakoc.
In Krusheva e Madhe, Arben Aziz Halitaj (22)
from Jashanica e Epërme was killed.
RAHOVEC: In the vicinity of the cross-road between
Prizren-Xerxa and Gjakova, police demolished and looted the house of Ibrahim
Thaçi. His 7 member-family was sheltered in Rahovec.
FERIZAJ: At the Hani i Elezit border-cross with
Macedonia, police under the pretext of weapons arrested Ramadan Baliu (1962),
a teacher from Ferizaj.
SUHAREKA: At the police check-point in Duhla,
police stopped the bus of the "Beni Tours" travel agency. All passengers
were taken out of the bus. The following were brutally beaten: Haxhi Zogaj
(1951) from Tërpeza (DM 70 were looted from him), Sabit (1981) and
Besim Bajraktari (1981) from Bllaca, pupils with the Technical Secondary
School, Cenë Gashi (1974) from Kijeva and Shefqet Rrustem Gashi from
Sfërka. They all suffered injuries and had to seek for medical help.
At the very same place police severely ill-treated Ejup Delijaj (1954)
and his nephew Ilir Delijaj (1979) from the village of Javor. The 2 were
going to Suhareka. Police stopped the bus of the "Dardania" travel agency
and physically ill-treated the driver Muhamet Jashari and the ticket collector
Vesel Jupaj.
In the center of Mushtisht, a policeman physically
ill-treated many villagers of Sallagrazhda and Gjinoc. He entered the private
bus in the ownership of Hysni Demiri and threatened the passengers with
liquidation. In Leshan, Serbian civilians opened fire from automatic guns.
PEJA: In the District Court in Peja, began the
investigative process against 23 Albanians indicted for "terrorism". The
following were accused: Sokol Sadria (62) from Brovina; Avni Shala (23)
from Loxha; Ukë Rexhaj (70); Astrit Morina (32); Luan (25) and Qazim
Sejdijaj (55); Muhamet (32), Ali (80) and Shaban Rama (48); as well as
Muhamet Rexhaj (33) from Ponoshec, the above mentioned are kept in arrest
in the county jail in Peja, Ibrahim Rexhaj (59); Riza (38) and Hasan Alijaj
(33); Hysen Duçi; Shaban Dula (27); Osman (54), Zymer (48), Nezir
(45), Fehim (20), Driton (20), and Jeton Panxhaj (20) from Ponoshec, who
are on the run, and Hasan Rama (41) from Ponoshec, who is in the Prishtina
hospital. Those arrested were sent to a pre-trial detention of 30 days.
GJILAN: Sherif Muji (1970), a farmer from Bresalc,
was arrested and physically ill-treated while waiting for his passport
to be issued.
A group of policemen, under the pretext of searching
for an unknown person, surrounded the house of Ramiz Abazi (1955), living
in "Kosova" st. 56. A policeman pointed his automatic gun towards the bedroom
of Ramiz's children: Muharrem (10), Iliriana (13), Rifat (16) Shqipe (18)
and Ibrahim (20). They all suffered traumas.
SHTIME: During the protests in Shtime, police
intervened and physically ill-treated Muhamet Qorolli from Rashnica, a
teacher with the "Naim Frashëri" Secondary School in Shtime, Nazmi
Hysenaj from Petrova, Basri Haziri from Lagja e Pajtimit, Ismajl Seferi
from Shtime and Shqipe Vitia (16) from Lipjan, a pupil with the "Naim Frashëri"
Secondary School in Shtime.
PODUJEVA: Florim Muçolli from Hertica,
an activist of the LDK, was taken for informative talks to the police station
in Podujeva.
MALISHEVA: More than 100 Albanian families cannot
use their phones. Many citizens are not given their pensions. The work
of journalists has become more difficult as they have to go to Suhareka
to send information.
MAY 22:
PEJA: Large police forces armed with heavy weaponry
were stationed on the hill over the villages of Gllogjan and Nepole. In
the vicinity of the "Migjeni" Primary School in Gllogjan, more than 100
policemen took positions and opened fire towards the villages of Gllogjan,
Nepole and Bokshiq. Teachers managed to evacuate their pupils and to shelter
them in Gllogjan and Kosuriq.
Police and Serbian civilians shelled the villages
of Grabanica and Bokshiq in the district of Klina. Many houses were burnt
due to the shelling, or fire was set to them by the police. The women,
children and the elderly, who fled their houses in the villages of Gllogjan,
Nepole, Llugaxhi, Bokshiq, Dugajeva, Grabanica, Dollova and Çeskova,
gathered in the yard of the church in Gllogjan. Many left for the village
of Dushkaja, whereas the others went to Peja.
In the outskirts of Peja, 3 buses were stopped
by the police and taken in front of the Security Center. The women and
children were left in the bus. They had to wait there for more than 3 hours.
More than 50 men were taken out of the bus and inside the police station.
They were ill-treated and brutally beaten under the pretext of being members
of the KLA. After 3 hours of torture they were released. Mark Simon Krasniqi
and Marjan Hil Krasniqi from Nepolja; Frrok Fran Kabashi, Gjergj Prenk
Kabashi, Mark Zef Thaçi, Agim Pal Koci and Agron Pal Koci from Gllogjan;
Ali Binak Tigani and Bajram Sadri Tigani from Kosuriq were among those
ill-treated. These families were sheltered at their relatives in Peja.
Police stopped 2 buses travelling to Peja. The
passengers were taken out of the bus and the men were severely ill-treated.
Due to injuries suffered the following reported their cases to the Sub-
CDHRF in Peja: Izet Musa, a Pedagogical Consultant in Peja; Agim Gashi
from Baran; Hysen R. Berisha from Kamenica; Mustafë Kelmendi, Lush
Kurti and Muharrem F. Berisha from Peja; as well as Luz M. Berisha, Palush
N. Desku and Gjergj D. Thaçi from Gllogjan, all teachers in Gllogjan.
KLINA: On burning several Albanian houses in
the village of Grabanica, Serbian forces shelled the villages of Dellova,
Këpuz, Çeskova and Bokshiq.
In the village of Zajm, Serbian police, military
and paramilitary forces killed and massacred the elderly Brahim Ahmet Ukaj
(75) and Bajram Demë Kastrati. They kidnapped Arbnor Desku and Bedri
Manaj from Klina, Mahir Gashi from Peja and another person, whereas they
burnt the houses of Haxhi, Avdyl and Miftar Dragidella, Haki Veselaj, demolished
the house of Beqir Dragidella and burnt the stable of Sali Dragidella.
Serbian snipers took positions around the village. The inhabitants, mainly
women, children and the elderly fled the village and took shelter in Klina
and other safer villages. Those remained in Zajm are subjected to Serbian
terror and violence.
In Rixheva, Serbian snipers shot towards the
Veselaj quarter. In Gllareva, a village vacant for many weeks now, Serbian
police forces with the help of Ramadan Bala, demolished and looted many
houses in the Veselaj, Hasanaj, Pantinaj, Balaj, Haxhaj, Abazaj, Kapllanaj
quarters.
In Grabanica, Serbian forces killed Isuf Rexhë
Morina (45), wounded Vesel Berisha, Idriz Osman Beqiri and Ali Gashi with
his son, burnt 8-9 houses of the Krasniqi family and the houses of Rexhë
and Demë Sejdiu, demolished and looted the houses of Ukë Sahiti
and Ramë Sejdiu. Serbian police and military forces armed with heavy
weaponry were stationed in the houses of Enver and Hajdin Sejdiu as well
as other vacant houses. In Grabanica, the "Azem Bejta" Primary School and
many other houses were shelled.
In Dellova, almost all houses are in fire. In
Bokshiq, Haxhi Sutë Fazliu (62) was wounded due to shelling. It is
supposed that there were many casualties. The burning and demolition of
houses continues. After midnight, automatic fire was opened towards the
houses of Selim Rugova and Brahim and Selim Dallaveri from Shtupel. In
Klina, Matë Mark Çuni (1950) and Fran Palucaj were arrested.
Mata was physically ill-treated.
DEÇAN: The situation in Deçan continues
to be very grave. Shots were fired towards Baballoç. The town is
under blockade. There are no passers-by. Serbian forces are in position.
The situation in Junik is very grave. The guns in the places, where Serbian
and Montenegrin refugees are settled, are pointed towards Junik.
SKëNDERAJ: Serbian forces have been opening
fire towards the village of Llausha, which is under siege since March 5.
The houses of Halil, Jetullah, Nezir and Ali Geci were damaged.
GJAKOVA: Serbian forces stationed in the vicinity
of Ponoshec, began an attack against the villagers of Morina, Smolica and
Popova at 6 a.m. Lots of damage was caused.
Agim Saraçi, an activist of the "Mother
Theresa" Humanitarian ë Charitable Association, was taken for informative
talks and was kept in the police station for 2 hours.
GLLOGOC: In Korrotica e Epërme, 6 policemen
raided and demolished the house of Fejzullah Dushkolli. His brother, Jetullah
Dushkolli (75) was beat-up. Some villagers, fearing police ill-treatment
fled the village.
PRIZREN: In the outskirts of Suhareka, the corpse
of Muhamet Shote (39), a gypsy from Prizren was found. He was killed under
unknown circumstances. Automatic fire was opened towards the "Ivo Llolla
Ribar" dormitory in Prizren. Apart from Serbian and Moslem pupils, 150
Serbian refugees are settled in this building. A room in which 6 students
live was hit.
In the village of Lubizhda near Prizren, Mustafë
Krasniqi (1965) from Vlashki Drenoc near Malisheva, was taken out of the
bus, arrested and sent to the police station in Prizren. He was kept there
for 2 hours and was severely ill-treated by 3 Security inspectors. He suffered
body injuries. Later on, he was released.
FERIZAJ: In a fast food restaurant on the road
from Nerodimja to Ferizaj, police arrested Rizah Reshani, a journalist
of "Rilindja".
Gazmend Azem Sejdiu (1985) from Papaz was summoned
for weapons to the police station in Babush. He was ordered to report again
on May 25. In the vicinity of the Timber Combine, Agim Mehmeti (1968) from
Ferizaj was brutally beaten by a group of policemen. Due to injuries suffered
he had to seek for medical help. In the vicinity of the Tube Plant police
beat-up many passers-by. Fire shots were heard from behind the building.
VUSHTRRI: Vuçina Janiqijeviq, commander-in-chief,
arrested Avni Aliu (20) from Strofc, while the latter was waiting for his
driving license to be issued. He was kept at the police station for an
hour, beaten-up severely and interrogated about the KLA. In the end, he
was released and threatened to be summoned again. GJILAN: In the vicinity
of the "Ramiz Sadiku" quarter, while dispersing, Albanian protesters were
attacked with tear gas. The protesters responded with stones. Police inspector
Nesha and traffic policeman Jova from Zhegra beat up protesters Shefket
A. Shkodra (1980), a pupil with "Marin Barleti" Secondary School in Gjilan,
and Ahmet H. Isufi (1972), "Qenar Çeshme" quarter 63. The others
were insulted on a national and family basis.
SHTIME: In Belinc, Serbian soldiers stopped and
beat up Xhafer Nura (1982), a pupil with the "Naim Frashëri" Secondary
School in Shtime, who was on his way back home.
MITROVICA: At the check-point in Shipol, Serbian
policemen stopped and brutally beat up Fazli Deli Deliu (57) from Çabra
near Zubin- Potok. On their way to Skënderaj, policemen shot towards
the Albanian houses in Lushta.
PRISHTINA: In his statement given to the CDHRF,
Zhivorad Stamenkovic from Kamenica, stated that on May 19, on the road
Peja- Mitrovica, in the place called "Voqnjak", in the vicinity of Skënderaj,
unidentified persons took out of the bus his cousin Dejan Stojilkovic (1973)
from Ropotova e Madhe of Kamenica, an employee with the Ministry of Interior
Affairs in Gjilan. Dejan was taken to an unknown direction.
ISTOG: On May 18, Xhevat Avdiaj (35), a physician
with the Health Care Centre in Istog, was arrested due to the fact that
he had cured Artan Imeraj (30), wounded. Artan is also kept under arrest
at the Security Centre in Peja.
SUHAREKA: Police chased and beat up secondary
school pupils, while passing by the police station. When the others changed
their route, policemen chased them up to the bus station and beat them
up. Due to injuries suffered, Avdyl Musli Lipoveci (1982) reported his
case.
KAÇANIK: At the bus station, police arrested
and physically ill- treated Rrahman Ali Dashi (18), a pupil from Stagova.
MAY 23:
DEÇAN: Large police forces were stationed
on the cross-road near Prejlep, on the road Deçan-Gjakova. They
opened fire towards the villages of Prejlep and Dranoc. The situation is
very dramatic. 20 APCs, 2 armored cars, 2 cannons and large police forces
made efforts to pass through the villages of Carrabreg i Poshtëm and
Prejlep, but they clashed with the forces of Kosova Liberation Army. The
fight took place along the road Deçan-Gjakova up to Rastavica. The
villagers have been resisting the Serbian forces. After a three hours fight,
Serbian forces withdrew towards Deçan.
During the very same attack, the following were
wounded: Riza Isuf Mazrekaj (30), Ramiz Musli Tolaj (65), Rasim Malë
Hulaj (24) - the three from Prejlep, Bashkim Skënder Dautaj from Carrabreg
i Poshtëm, Tafil Mazrekaj (35) and Hamëz Mazrekaj (32) - both
from Dranoc.
In Prejlep, the following houses were burnt:
the house of Binak Shaban Tolaj, Azem S. Cufaj and Muharrem R. Çekiqaj.
Whereas, the building of the "Asim Vokshi" Primary School as well as the
houses of Malë, Zekë, Adem, Musa and Hasan B. Hulaj; Haki, Bardh,
Adem, Fazli and Imer Tolaj; Imer Zogaj; Nezir, Shaqir, Xhemajl, Gani and
Sali Dobiçaj; and Brahim A. Lokaj were damaged.
In the "Lendina" quarter in the village of Carrabreg
i Poshtëm, the houses of Bajram, Rexhep, Zymer and Halil Bozhdaraj
were shelled. In Dranoc, the houses of Tahir, Idriz, Bilall, Hysen and
Riza Mazrekaj were damaged from shelling. A police APC was destroyed. At
7.30 p.m., Serbian police forces withdrew from Prejlep and headed for Gjakova.
There was shooting in Deçan. Fire was
opened towards a group of citizens, women, children and elderly who had
fled Junik.
From the police and military bases in Podi i
Gështenjave and Hulaj, Serbian forces opened artillery fire towards
the border with Albania. There are large military movements. Many soldiers
were settled in the abandoned houses. Serbian forces opened fire and shelled
the village of Sllup. There were no casualties. According to an eye- witness,
2 grenades fired from the base in Hulaj, fell on the Albanian side of the
border.
GJAKOVA: A police and military convoy comprised
of 30 vehicles headed for Reka e Keqe and began an attack on the villages
of Smolica, Ponoshec, Morina, Stublla, Berjahë and Popoc on the border
with Albania. Prior to the attack police demanded from the villagers to
hand in their weapons. The attack and shelling of the villages did not
stop until late in the afternoon. Lots of damage was caused but there are
no reports on casualties. Sources from the attacked villages report that
the Serbian forces had considerable losses.
GLLOGOC: At the railway station in Gllogoc, a
large number of policemen arrested all citizens within the building and
forced other passengers out of the train and took them to the police station.
There were many women, children and elderly among the arrested. Those arrested
were used as a shield during the raid of the house of Kamber Dushaku in
the vicinity of the railway station. Policemen beat-up Idriz Idrizi (65)
from Klina, Izet Hajdari (1960) from Çikatova e Re. Meanwhile, they
threatened to execute 20 of the arrested, but they released them as allegedly
ordered by their superiors. Yet, they kept 7 men from Bainca.
KLINA: In the village of Shtupel, the house of
Selim Rugova was shelled. There were no casualties regardless of the fact
that 10 family members were in the house. When shooting stopped, they fled
the house. A paralysed old man and his 70 year-old-wife were left in the
house. A grenade fell on the house of Selim's brother, Brahim Rugova.
RAHOVEC: The villages of Gexha and Malësia
e Vogël were shelled since early in the morning. At the check-point
in Komoran, police stopped Avdullah Rashid Popaj (1966), a farmer from
Bellacërka near Rahovec. He and his father were taking his pregnant
wife, Hidajete, to the Prishtina hospital. They severely beat-up Avdullah
in the presence of his father and wife, broke the windscreen. Due to the
shock suffered, Hidajete is in a very deteriorated condition. PEJA: In
the outskirts of Peja, police stopped the bus from Baran and beat-up the
following passengers: Afrim S. Panxhaj (1964) from Kosuriq and Jeton O.
Berisha (1974) from Baran.
PRIZREN: More than 10 policemen intervened in
the premises of the Students' Independent Union with the "Xhevdet Doda"
Pedagogical High School in Prizren. The following members of the chairmanship
were arrested and taken to the Security Center in Prizren: Leonora Morina,
Jehona Krasniqi, Bylbyl Duraku and Haqif Ilazi.
In the afternoon, 50 policemen raided and demolished
the house of Haqif Ilazi in Dushanova. They found an automatic gun, a bomb
and many bullets. Haqif's brother Sherif, a student with the Faculty of
Physical Training in Prishtina was arrested. Policemen seized a computer,
some tapes and insulted their mother.
FERIZAJ: After the protests in Ferizaj, police
stopped and severely ill-treated Xhevat Sylejmani from Smira near Vitia.
Due to injuries suffered he had to seek for medical help. Police seized
25 tons of flour from the "Besimi Commerce" Enterprise, even though its
owner had the documentation in complete order.
SUHAREKA: Ukë Bytyçi, chairman of
the LDK branch in Suhareka, was summoned to the police station and "for
the sake of citizens' security" he was advised not to hold protests anymore.
In Topliçan, police stopped and severely
ill-treated Nebih Kokollari (1954) from Budakova.
MAY 24:
KLINA: Serbian police and paramilitary forces
besiege the villages of Zajm, Grabanicë, Dollovë, Bokshiq, Këpuz
and Çeskovë. In the village of Bokshiq, Shaqir Rrustem Zeqiri
(26), a person mentally handicapped, was killed.
DEÇAN: The situation is deteriorating.
A helicopter flew over the villages in which the clashes occurred. Additional
forces consisting of 6 tanks, 2 armored cars, a truck and a jeep were brought.
The army took positions in front of the Health Care Center in Deçan.
All traffic was stopped on the road from Deçan to Gjakova. 3 grenades
were thrown on the village of Sllup.
GLLOGOC: A large number of policemen stopped
the train in the "Drenica" station. Serbian police and military forces
shelled the village of Llapushnik. The house of Brahim Krasniqi was damaged.
On May 10, the houses of Salih, Ali, Selman and Ilaz Krasniqi as well as
that of Halil B. Gashi were shelled and damaged.
PRISHTINA: In the "Ulpiana" quarter, police arrested
Ali Galica, bill collector of the District Financing Council, living in
"Dardania" quarter 717. He was physically ill-treated and his documents
were seized.
DELAYED INFORMATION:
SHTIME: On May 12, police intervened against the
peaceful protesters and physically ill-treated Afrim Hoxha (1974). Due
to injuries suffered he presented the doctors report.
On May 20, the following were physically ill-treated
by the police: Ramiz and Zymer Hoxha; Bashkim and Hazir Kodra; Enver and
Shyqeri Qarri from Shtimja and Shyqeri Spahiu from Pjetërshtica.
RAHOVEC: On May 12, police severely ill-treated
Mahmut Shala from Zoqishta. On May 18, his house in Xërxa was demolished.
Goods estimated to DM 8000 were looted.
FERIZAJ: On May 13, police in the village of
Greme searched for Rrahime Shehu and her children.
On May 18-19, 15 policemen in the village of
Tankosiq physically ill-treated passers-by. Many were threatened with liquidation.
KAÇANIK: On May 15, police in the village
of Kotlina, seized weapons from the following: Sylejman Agush Kuçi
(1939), Vehbi Sylejman Kuçi (1967), Adem Mejdi Kuçi (1958),
Agrush Ramiz Kuçi (1967), Xhavit Qazim Kuçi, Refik Nuhi Kuçi,
Nuredin Xhemajl Kuçi, Vesel Ramadan Vlashi, Ziber Bajram Vlashi
(1973) and Fatmir Kadri Loku (1970). They all had regularly issued permits.
On May 15, police arrested Sadri Jashar Bala,
a worker in the "Sharri" enterprise, living in "Ramadan Agushi" st. 163.
He had witnessed the killing of Bajrush Tafili. The perpetrator, Mahmut
Dardhishta is a reserve policeman. Sadri was accused of changing the statement
given in the District Court in Prishtina and was sent to the Security Center
in Ferizaj. He was insulted on a family basis and physically ill-treated.
FUSHë KOSOVA: On May 15, in the vicinity
of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Avni Mustafë Grajçevci
(1965), a technician from Fushë Kosova, was attacked by a group of
Serbian civilians. He was severely ill-treated by police in the yard of
the Prishtina hospital and suffered severe injuries.
VITI: On May 16, Dragan Arsiq, the investigative
judge of the District Court in Vitia, sentenced the following farmers to
a pre- trial detention of 30 days: Shaban Rasim Salihu (1969), Sali Rasim
Behluli (1946), Sabri Jashar Ismajli (1950) and Halil Selim Ismajli (1957)
from Sadovina e Çerkezëve; as well as Hazir Behxhet Miftari
(1948) and Behxhet Hazir Miftari (1976) from Sadovina e Jerlive. They were
all accused of "endangering security".
On May 20, Haxhim Elmaz Tafa (1972) from Begunca,
an asylum-seeker repatriated from Germany, was sentenced to 1 year by the
District court in Gjilan.
SKëNDERAJ: On May 16, Serbian police and
military forces shelled many villages. The houses of Osman Fazlia in Turiqec
and Rexhep Dema in Kopiliq i Poshtëm were damaged. 2 cows belonging
to Selim Murseli were killed. On May 17, Serbian forces opened fire on
the houses of the Kastrati quarter in Buroja. The houses of Beqir and Fehmi
Shala were shelled. Cattle food belonging to the families of Sherif, Brahim,
Halim, Shefqet, Sokol and Nazif Kastrati was burnt.
DEÇAN: On May 16, Serbian police and military
forces seized all the vehicles from the "Ramiz Sadiku" Spare Part Factory
in Deçan and took them to Peja. On May 17, Serbian police forces
surrounded the house of Isa Smajl Cacaj in Deçan. The policemen
looted sports equipment estimated to DM 10.000.
OBILIQ: On May 17, police physically ill-treated
Hedije Restelica (12) and another child from Dardhishta. The children were
pasturing the cattle and were threatened to be killed.
Due to injuries suffered Hedija had to seek for
medical help. In the premises of the primary school in Vodica, police distributed
weapons to the local Serbs. On May 18, weapons were distributed to Serbian
civilians in Obiliq. The very same was done in the "Kosova A" and "Kosova
B" Power Plants in Obiliq. Police distributed a truck full of weapons to
the guards of these power plants. On May 19, police surveyed the terrain
in the village of Sibovc. Enver Halil Peci from Sibovc was summoned to
the police station. On May 20, 3 policemen and 2 armed civilians summoned
Ismet Muharrem Krasniqi from Sibovc to the police station. Nehat Berisha
from Bivolak, a pupil with the "Hasan Tahsini" Secondary School in Obiliq,
was stopped by the police in Sibovc and taken to the police station in
Obiliq. He was kept there for 6 hours. Workers of the Serbian administration
in the district in Obiliq evicted Selman Rama (1976) from his flat.
SUHAREKA: On May 17, police in the village of
Duhla opened fire on the house of Idriz Rrafshi and the shop of Hysen Përteshi.
Police went into Idriz's house and broke the doors. On May 19, police in
the village of Topliçan physically ill-treated Hamëz Lushaj,
Nexhat Kurtishaj, Haxhi and Naser Zenelaj, Sinan Tafaj, a teacher, and
Nazmi Hamit Asllanaj (1970), a student. The latter suffered severe injuries.
PODUJEVA: On May 18, police in the village of
Sfeqla arrested Rrahim Beqiri (55). He was severely ill-treated and ordered
to report again the next day. At the police check-point in Sibovc Rexhep
Adem Zuka (18), a pupil, was physically ill-treated.
In Kaqibeg, police arrested Ajet Asllani (30)
from Gërdoc. He was physically ill-treated at the police station in
Lluzhan.
On May 20, 30 policemen accompanied by an armored
car intervened in the house of Sabit Llalloshi. His brother Rushit was
ordered to report immediately at the police station in Podujeva.
In the vicinity of the cross-road in Kërpimeh,
3 policemen stopped Besim Tahir Rrahmani from Dumnica e Poshtme. He was
beaten and sent to the police station. Besim suffered severe injuries.
PRIZREN: On May 18, police arrested Shqipe Ponosheci
(1960), a housewife living in "Dragica Nekiq" st. 102. Due to participating
in the peaceful protests in Prizren she was sentenced by the Court for
Petty-Offences to a prison term of 15 days. On May 20, police in Qafa e
Duhlës stopped Arben Bytyçi (1974), a student from Prizren,
living in "Uzhica" st. 20. He was severely ill-treated and due to injuries
suffered had to seek for medical help.
MITROVICA: On May 18, police at the check-point
in Shipol stopped the "Kosovatransi" bus. Ilir Miftar Zeka (18) from Abria
e Poshtme near Skënderaj, a pupil with the Technical School in Mitrovica
and Bekim Gashi (24) from the village of Vojnik were taken out of the bus
and were beaten-up until they lost conscious. On May 20, while returning
from work, Fazli Deli Deliu (57) from the village of Çabra, living
in Shipol, was beaten-up by the police.
On May 20, police arrested Musa Ajeti (36) from
Stantërg. He was accused of being a member of the KLA. On the cross-road
between Lushta, Vërnica and Vaganica police stopped Arsim Bilalli,
a journalist of "Gazeta shqiptare". He was handcuffed and sent to the police
station in Mitrovica. He was kept there for 5 hours, interrogated, severely
ill-treated and insulted on a national basis. Arsim suffered body injuries.
GJAKOVA: On May 18, police stopped a humanitarian
convoy with aid from Handicap International Children Aid, MBE and BRS.
They were ordered to unload the goods in the vicinity of the students'
dormitory in which Serbian refugees are settled. The convoy consisted of
4 trucks and it was accompanied by cars from the "Mother Theresa" Humanitarian
ë Charitable Association. 10 tons of flour, 1590 l of oil, 1160 l
of milk, 1625 kg of salt, 1500 kg of sugar, 1100 kg of rice, 500 kg of
macaroni, 1200 tins, 225 blankets, 110 boxes containing 11 kg of food each
and 150 boxes with hygienic material were seized.
VUSHTRRI: On May 18, after the protest walks
in Vushtrria, Halim Ademi and Arben Isufi from Bogaj were taken to the
police station and physically ill-treated.
MALISHEVA: On May 19, police stopped Osman Zogaj
(1965), a merchant from Balinca. They put 2 bombs in the trunk of his car.
Sinan Gucati noticed this so they stopped the car, threw the bombs and
continued their way.
GLLOGOC: On May 19, police from the check-point
in Komoran opened fire towards the houses of Brahim and Sadik Krasniqi-Karaçica.
KLINA: On May 19, police at the train station
in Pogragje kidnapped Ymer Rraci, principal with the primary school in
Jashanica and activist of the LDK, Kajtaz Rraci, a teacher, Ismet D. Rraci
and Safet Rraci from Jallovc as well as 2 other passengers. They were taken
to the police station in Klina and brutally beaten. Ymer Rraci suffered
body injuries and had to seek for medical help. He was threatened to tell
who had killed the postman Jeritiq. A considerable amount of goods was
looted from the passengers.
On May 20, at about 11.30 p.m., Dalibor Lazareviq
was killed whereas, Slavisha and Dragomir Milianoviq were wounded. It is
supposed that the killing is a result of inter-Serb clashes. The Serb Media
Center accused "Albanian terrorists". The police used the killing as a
pretext to terrorize Albanian villagers. Police burnt the house of Gjergj
Dashi, the houses of the Kitaj family as well as that of Hil Veseli in
Budisalc. Murat Delia was severely tortured. 20 houses were raided in the
Dodaj and Palushaj quarters.
The shop of Bardhec Gj. Ndrecaj in Krusheva e
Madhe was looted and fire was put to it.
KAMENICA: On May 19, a group of armed Serbian
civilians from the village of Strezovc intervened in the yard of the "Idriz
Seferi" Primary School. For more than 2 hours they provoked Albanian pupils.
PRISHTINA: On May 19, Latif Krasniqi (55), a
driver of the "Rilindja" enterprise, was physically ill-treated at the
police check-point in Kijeva.
GJILAN: On May 20, 4 policemen from Zhegra led
by a policeman named Novica from the village of Partesh, intervened in
the "Lindi" shop in the ownership of Ekrem Hasani (31) in Llashtica. He
was threatened, insulted on a national and family basis, physically ill-treated
and ordered to report to the police station in Zhegra.
