THE SERBIAN POLICE AND OTHER AUTHORITIES IN KOSOVA
FROM MAY 24 UNTIL MAY 27, 1998
The situation in Kosova continues to be very grave
especially in the regions attacked by the Serbian police, military and
paramilitary forces eg. in Drenica, Dukagjini Plain and the villages on
the border with Albania as well as in the towns of Peja, Gjakova, Rahovec,
Prizren and Mitrovica.
On May 24, the corpse of Zekë Azem Brahimi
was found in the village of Bokshiq.
On May 25, the following were killed in the village
of Lubeniq: Zeqë Misin Hamzaj (68), Brahim Ukë Hamzaj (64), Dervish
Ukë Hamzaj (51), Ymer Deli Hamzaj (53), Gani Zeqë Hamzaj (25),
Rifat Zeqë Hamzaj (24), Bashkim Ymer Hamzaj (23) and Hysen Daut Alimehaj
(40) from Lubeniq; as well as Haxhi Mehmet Goga from Deçan. Most
of the killed were massacred. The very same day Sadri Komoni (65) was killed
while entering his house in Peja.
On May 25, Ramiz Sadik Batusha (22) was killed
during the attack on Baballoç. Ismet Ukaj from Strellc i Epërm
and Zojë Kuçi-Selmanaj from Rastavica were killed during the
shelling of these 2 villages.
On May 26, Serbian snipers stationed in the Cultural
Center in Deçan killed Nexhat Sadri Ibërhysaj (28). He was
killed in his house yard. During the police and military attack on the
villages of the district of Klina Fetah Morina (46) was killed.
On May 26, an unidentified youngster killed by
the Serbian police was buried in the village of Çeskova.
On May 27, Tahir Rrustem Kadriaj (75) was killed
during the shelling of Rastavica. In the village of Beleg, Serbian snipers
opened fire towards a group of children who were leaving the village in
a car.
On May 27, at 10.15 p.m., Serbian police between
the villages of Xërxa and Bellacërka killed 3 Albanians and wounded
one.
The number of the wounded is very high. Many
house were looted, burnt and destroyed. Many women, children and elderly
have fled from the attacked regions. 7000 people were sheltered in Peja.
There are great difficulties in the supplying
with food and medicine. Merchants are prevented from bringing goods from
out of Kosova. Police is seizing food and medicine from the "Mother Theresa"
Humanitarian ë Charitable Association. Police seized 27 t of humanitarian
aid belonging to the "Mercy Corps International" organization.
Kosova is under a complete blockade of the Serbian
police and military forces.
Some 500 Albanians, mainly women and children
are stuck in the center of Deçan.
The villagers of Deva, on the border with Albania
were ordered by high rank military officials to abandon their village.
They are to do so by June 1, unless they receive a special residence
permit by the Serbian authorities in Gjakova.
THE COURSE OF EVENTS:
MAY 24:
DEÇAN: Artillery fire is opened towards
the village of Baballoç. Snipers opened fire from the high buildings
in the center of Deçan. Police has blocked all the roads to town.
There was automatic fire between the villages of Strellc i Epërm and
Lubeniq.
KLINA: The corpse of Zekë Azem Brahimi (70)
was found in his house in the village of Bokshiq. The village of Cerovik
is shelled from the check-point in Kijeva. Serbian civilians opened automatic
fire towards the Albanian houses in the villages of Zllakuqan, Krushevë
e Madhe, Rudicë and Bërkovë. As a consequence of the above
mentioned the villagers of Krusheva e Madhe fled their village.
SKëNDERAJ: From the hills in the vicinity
of Skënderaj, police re-started the shelling of Llausha and the surrounding
villages. The house of Aziz Bala was damaged and his daughter was wounded.
The house of Muharrem Geci and that of Halil Zejnullahu were damaged.
GLLOGOC: In the "Binaku" quarter in the village
of Gollubar, Serbian police in 2 cars provoked Albanian villagers by pointing
their guns towards them.
GJAKOVA: Military forces stationed in Hulaj near
Deçan, Babaj near Boka and Çabrat near Gjakova attacked the
following villages of Reka e Keqe: Smolica, Popoc, Morina, Ponoshec, Stublla,
Berjahë, Brovinë, Nivokaz, Koshare, Sheremetaj and Ramoc.
In Popoc, Serbian forces arrested Avni Mehmeti
(24), Agron Syla (26), Nexhdet Zyberi (24) and Sylejman Sadriu (24) from
Ponoshec and Gazmend Ymeri from Popoc. The above mentioned were guarding
the village from looters.
PRISHTINA: In the "Kodra e Trimave" quarter,
a police squad raided many houses under the pretext of searching for a
person named Ibish Ilazi.
OBILIQ: Kadri Berisha, a bill collector of the
District Financial Council, was summoned for informative talks regarding
the collection of financial means for the educational process and the "financing
of the KLA".
PRIZREN: Jugosllav Skënderi, the investigative
judge with the District Court in Prizren, ordered a pre-trial detention
of 30 days to Leonora Morina (1977), Jehona Krasniqi (1976) and Behare
Tafallari (1976). They are indicted for "subversive activity" and are detained
in the Lipjani prison.
FERIZAJ: After the peaceful protests in Ferizaj,
police ill-treated the elderly Rexhep Jashari, Mehmet Reka and Arif Jetishi.
SHTIME: After the evenings prayer in the local
mosque, police severely ill-treated the elderly Musli (63) and Muhamet
Tërshana (60); Musli Ademaj (66) and Jupë Pajazitaj (55).
In the triangle between Carraleva-Hani i Elezit
and Koshare police is ill-treating passers-by.
ISTOG: In Dreja, police physically ill-treated
Enver, Ramadan and Kadri Pukaj. In Cerkolec, police raided the house of
Isuf Mehmetaj.
GJILAN: At 3 a.m., 3 armed soldiers from the
military barracks in Gjilan, beat up Bekim Mehmeti (1970), watchman of
the "Mimoza" mini-market, living in "A. Presheva" st. 100.
MAY 25:
PEJA: After the shelling of the village of Lubeniq
by the Serbian military forces, large police forces entered the village,
killed 10, wounded 7 and ill-treated many Albanians, many houses were burnt
and destroyed. The following were killed and massacred: Zeqë Hamzaj
(68) and his 2 sons Gani (25) and Rifat Hamzaj (24); Ymer Hamzaj (53) and
his son Bashkim Hamzaj (23); brothers Dervish (51) and Brahim Hamzaj (64);
as well as Hysen Daut Alimehaj (40) from Lubeniq and his guest Haxhi Mehmet
Gogaj (22) from Deçan.
The houses of Amrush and Xhemajl Aliçkaj,
Ali and Nazmi Zogaj, Ramë Huskaj, Dinë Shoshi, Sadik Zekë
Berisha and Demë Bushati were burnt and destroyed. The houses of Adem
Halilaj and Ali Shoshi were demolished. A number of villagers from Lubeniq
and Raushiq have fled towards Peja.
Police undertook this action as a response to
the incident which happened in the village of Lubeniq and in which 3 Serb
and Montenegrin employees of "Electrokosova" GE were wounded.
DEÇAN: Serbian police and military forces
started an attack on the village of Baballoç. Ramiz Sadik Batusha
(22) was killed.
Sniper fire was opened in Deçan.
Serbian police and military forces stationed
in the military bases in Hulaj and "Podi i Gështenjave" shelled the
villages of Rastavica, Prejlep, Dranoc, Sllup, Lloqan, Voksh, Pobergjë,
Carrabreg i Poshtëm, Carrabreg i Epërm, Beleg, Prekollukë,
Dubravë, Isniq, Strellc i Epërm, Baballoç and Gramaçel.
There are clashes between the Serbian police
and military forces and the Albanian villagers supported by the KLA. Ismet
Ukaj was killed in the village of Strellc i Epërm; Bedri Hasanmetaj
was wounded; Zojë Kuçi Selmani (70) was killed in Rastavica;
Agim Hasan Hadërgjonaj (26), Mehmet Maxhun Hadërgjonaj (28) and
Bashkim Demë Mazrrekaj were wounded in the village of Voksh.
KLINA: In the early hours of the morning, fire
was opened from heavy artillery towards the villages of Grabanica, Dollova,
Këpuz, Çeskova, Gramnik, Dollc, Gllareva, Jashanica, Pogragja,
Resnik, Gjurgjevik i Madh and Bokshiq. Lots of damage was caused. The village
of Bokshiq was destroyed.
In Dollova, Serbian civilians looted and burnt
the houses which were not destroyed during the shelling. The very same
people have started setting fire to the houses in Rastok.
There is no information on the whereabouts of
Xhezair Xhafer Syla from Grabanica.
Police beat Enver Maloku, journalist of the TVP.
Cattle in the abandoned villages is dying of
famine or is being looted and slaughtered by Serbs.
GLLOGOC: The Llapushniku quarter in Gllogoc was
shelled.
Police stationed at the check-point in Komoran
opened fire towards the Poterci quarter and the houses of Mehdi Sali Thaçi,
Hysen, Qazim and Ahmet Mulaku, Hysni Rexhiqi and Ali Shabani in the Mulaku
quarter. Lots of damage was caused but there were no casualties.
SKëNDERAJ: Serbian forces shelled the villages
of Morina, Polluzha and Rezalla. The grave yard in Morina was damaged.
GJAKOVA: The situation continues to be very tense.
Serbian forces shelled the villages of Morina, Ponoshec, Popoc and Smolica.
The houses of Dinë Bajrami, Rexhep Selimi, Ismet Alushi, Hasan Hyseri,
Hajdar Avdyli, Halil Mehmeti, Ibrahim, Musli and Musa Kurti, Sahit Balia,
Zenel Ahmeti, Alush Abazi and Hamdi Nura were damaged. The situation within
the town is deteriorating. Ill-treatments and arrests have become a widespread
phenomenon. Women and children from the attacked villages have been seeking
shelter in the town. The blockade in the supply of the town burdens the
situation. In the "Isa Grezda" Medical Center, dr. Fehmi Vula, a member
of the Board of the LDK branch in Gjakova and a deputy of the Parliament
of Kosova, was arrested by security inspectors. The following are in detention:
Besa Arllati, chairwoman with the Information Commission of the LDK branch,
Ali Jupa, member of the LDK Board and Jahë Sadria (1958), a teacher
with the "Hajdar Dushi" Gymnasium and a correspondent with the "Bujku"
daily. The following were arrested: Mehmet Qelë Syla (1958), a teacher
with the "Ganimete Terbeshi" Primary School in Ponoshec; Shaban Rama (48),
Qamil Rama (32), Ibrahim Rexha (39), Luan Sejdia, Muhamet Rama (26) and
Ukë Rexha (60) from Ponoshec; Astrit Morina (23), Ali Rama (63), Hasan
Rama (41) and Qazim Sejdia (56) from Morina. The investigative proceeding
began against: Riza Aliaj, Hasan Aliaj and Hysë Duçi from Ponoshec.
According to some information, a Serbian policeman
was killed under unknown circumstances at one of the police check-points
set up in the vicinity of "Ura e Tabakëve" in the outskirts of Gjakova
towards the border with Albania.
DEÇAN: Serbian forces attacked the villages
of Baballoç, Prejlep and Rastavica. About 150 grenades were fired
within an hour.
Incessant shots were heard in the village of
Strellc on the road Deçan-Peja.
In the evening, police forces continued their
attack against the villages of: Rastavica, Prejlep, Drenoc, Sllup, Voksh,
Pobërgja, Lloqan, Baballoç, Gramaçel, Carrabreg i Poshtëm,
Lendina, Strellc i Poshtëm, Strellc i Epërm, Prekolluka. A real
war is being waged in Rastavica.
According to Serb sources, 2 Serbian policemen
of the police station in Junik were kidnapped by armed Albanian groups
in the vicinity of the village of Baballoç. The commander-in-chief
in Junik was wounded on the road from Gjakova to Deçan.
In the vicinity of Lubeniq, on the road from
Deçan to Peja, 3 Serbs, workers with GE Kosova, were wounded.
KLINA: At 9 a.m., Serbian forces started setting
fire to the houses of the Albanians in the village of Rastok.
MALISHEVA: Agron Shala and Vesel Berisha, activists
of the LDK from Kijeva, were kept for more than 12 hours in arrest in the
police station in Kijeva.
PODUJEVA: 3 policemen raided the house of Dalip
Kadriu, a bill collector of the District Financial Council. His materials
were seized and he was arrested and severely ill-treated. Police raided
the house of Maliq Jaha in Podujeva.
ISTOG: At midnight between May 24-25, in Dreja,
Serbian civilians opened fire and hit the wall of the house of Ranko Shekullarac.
The Albanian population fled and took shelter in the other villages of
this district.
A police squad raided the houses of the Nitaj
and Zekaj families in Muzhevina. Sinan Zeka was taken for informative talks.
PRISHTINA: Last night, unknown persons broke
the windows of the Technical Faculty in Prishtina. Daut Mustafa (1938),
"Vushtrria" st. 75, was insulted, beaten up and suffered body injuries
by 3 Serbian policemen in downtown Prishtina. Police from an armored car
opened fire towards Enver Ali Uka (1965) from the village of Polac near
Skënderaj, a professor with the "Prenk Jakova" Secondary School, while
he was on his way to work.
FERIZAJ: Brothers Remzi and Kadri Bala, from
the village of Varosh, were taken for informative talks regarding weapons
at the Security Center in Ferizaj. Remzi was threatened regarding his son
Arsim, who is allegedly "fighting in Drenica".
GJILAN: Dr. Blerim Bajrami (1965), "Y. Molla"
st. 92, was taken for informative talks regarding his activity and the
activity of the staff of the office of the "Mother Theresa" Humanitarian
ë Charitable Association, peaceful protests and political activity
of his father Rafet Bajrami.
MAY 26:
DEÇAN: Since 7.20 a.m., military units
stationed in the basis of Hulaj and "Podi i Gështenjave" started shelling
the villages in t the district of Deçan.
At 9.20 a.m., Serbian snipers stationed in the
Cultural Center in Deçan killed Nexhat Sadri Ibërhysaj (28),
while in his house yard.
PEJA: At midnight, Sadri Komoni (65) was killed
while entering his house in the vicinity of Footwear Combine.
In the evening, a plainclothed policeman opened
fire in the vicinity of the first aid policlinic. Afterwards, he went into
the office of dr. Fuat Gorani broke the windows, demolished the place and
threatened to liquidate the doctor and present patients.
Large police forces parading through downtown
Peja and a group of unknown persons headed for Kapeshnica quarter. They
broke shop windows and damaged the following private shops: "Tri arra",
"Buquku", "Janatari", "Mirlinda", "Gerqina", "Abetarja", "Te Fekla", "Sajonara",
etc.
In the vicinity of the military barracks, soldiers
stopped brothers Shkëlzen (24) and Erzen Shalanga (20) from Prapaqan
near Deçan. They were taken to the military barracks, beaten and
delivered to the Security Center.
KLINA: During the police and military operations,
Fetah Morina (46) was killed. Haxhi Sutë Fazliu was heavily wounded,
whereas his son Çaush and his wife were arrested. There are no information
on the whereabouts of Xhevdet Musa from Bokshiq.
In Çeskova, an unidentified youngster,
who was killed by the Serbian police, was buried.
In the quarter in the vicinity of the railway
station, a policeman and a Serbian civilian raided and demolished many
houses, physically ill-treated Sali Behluli and his wife Fatime, as well
as Nuhi Gashi and his wife Zelfije.
At noon, the village of Këpuz was shelled.
Gremnik is targeted by Serbian snipers from the
check-point in Dollc.
GLLOGOC: 68 police and military vehicles were
stationed in the "Ferronikli" Plant. The inhabitants of Gllogoc are fleeing
their houses.
GJAKOVA: In the outskirts of the town, police
stopped, ill-treated and seized 6000 dinars from Pashk Kolaj, Vilson Belli
and Luigj Mataj. The three were going to pay the electricity bill.
RAHOVEC: In Xërxa, a police and military
convoy stopped in front of Liman Tanusha's house and set fire to a barn.
A tractor and other equipment were burnt.
On the cross-road between Prizren, Gjakova and
Rahovec, policemen brutally beat up Haki, Astrit and Binak Krasniqi, as
well as Mazllum, Shefqet and Agron Gashi.
OBILIQ: In the village of Palaj, police are stopping
and checking all vehicles and physically ill-treating passers-by.
ISTOG: On May 23, Zef Malsiaj from Gurakoc, chairman
of the PSHDK branch in Istog, who was accompanying a group of foreign journalists
to the place, where a military helicopter fell, was beaten by three plainclothed
policemen in front of the house of Stanko Pejqinoviq. Two foreign journalists
gave him first aid and sent him to his house. Today, Zef went to the police
station to report the case, but he was beaten once again and threatened
to be killed with "all other Albanians".
PRISHTINA: Compulsory authorities of the "Higjieno-Teknika"
Enterprise sent their employees on forced labour to the "Ferronikli" Plant
in Gllogoc.
In the "Lakrishte" quarter, police stopped, provoked,
insulted and physically ill-treated students Banush Helshani and Fadil
Shala (1975) from Guncat near Malisheva.
GJILAN: Linda Kallaba (1972), a professor, secretary
of the LDK Youth Forum, was taken to the police station for informative
talks and was interrogated on the peaceful protests and her job.
Policemen forced out of the bus Bekim Zylfiu
(1974), a hairdresser, "Ferizaj" st.61. He was returning from Mitrovica.
A Serbian civilian threatened with a knife Albanian
pupils, who were going to the protests.
FERIZAJ: Afrim Ibrahimi (1977) was stopped and
beat up by two Serbs. He was forced into a police car and sent to the Security
Center.
Two policemen stopped and beat up Naser Xhemshir
Reshani (1976) from Kosina.
KAÇANIK: After the protest walks, Halil
Sabri Shehu (1980), Jetmir Fatmir Sopa (1980), Nusret Sylejman Shehu (1979)
and Mensur Ismet Konoli (1979), graduates with the "Skënderbeu" Secondary
school in Kaçanik, were physically ill-treated.
VITI: At the check-point in Duhla, police stopped
and physically ill-treated Nijazi Neziri (1962) from Ballanca near Vitia
and Isa Hoxha from Ballanca near Malisheva.
SUHAREKA: In Duhla, the "A. Shabani" Primary
School and several private houses were demolished. At the check-point in
Duhla, police ill-treated pupils Kadri Lumi and Besim Iballi and teacher
Muhamet Guraziu from Bllaca.
PODUJEVA: In Sibovc, police stopped the bus of
the "Edona" Enterprise and physically ill-treated Naim B. Syla from Gllamnik
and Mentor I. Llugaliu from Surkish.
PRIZREN: In the Serbian Run District Court in
Prizren, began the trial against Xhevat Berisha, Hajrim Çengaj,
Mehmet Memçaj, Mursel Osmani, Begush Bajrami and Xhemshit Krasniqi,
indicted for founding a "terrorist group".
MAY 27:
DEÇAN: The situation in Deçan and
its surroundings is very grave. At 1 a.m., Serbian forces stationed in
the military base in Hulaj shelled Albanian villages. Serbian snipers opened
fire on the women and children who were fleeing the town. Serbian refugees
and paramilitary forces are looting the houses and shops in the ownership
of Albanians.
During the shelling of Rastavica, Tahir Rrustem
Kadriaj (75) was killed. In Carrabreg i Poshtëm, the house of Metë
Ramosaj was damaged.
GLLOGOC: The police attack on the villages of
Poklek i Vjetër, Dobroshec and Çikatova e Vjetër, continued.
5 missiles fell on the "Lagja e Gurëve" quarter in Çikatova
e Vjetër. Qamil Dervishi (38) was wounded.
MITROVICA: Automatic fire was heard from the
military barracks in Mitrovica. Later on, all the roads in town were blocked.
Mehmet Ahmeti (21), a student from the village of Padalishta near Istog,
was physically ill-treated. Police prevented the protests in Mitrovica.
A police helicopter flew over the villages of Shala e Bajgorës.
PODUJEVA: Police raided in search for weapons
the house Ejup Maliqi (78) in the village of Dobratin. He was physically
ill-treated in the presence of his family members. His son, Sabri (35)
was arrested whereas, the other one was ordered to report to the police
station.
In Dobratin, Skënder Hamza, Iljaz Selmani
and Nexhmi Ademi were arrested for weapons.
Police searched for Salih Salihu, chairman of
the Political Prisoner's Association, and for his wife, Ramize Abdullahu.
HANI I ELEZIT: Police ill-treated Nehat Muzafer
Berisha (17) and searched for Sefedin Hasim Suma.
ISTOG: Dr. Xhevat Avdiaj from the village of
Sineja near Istog is kept in arrest and is being physically ill-treated
as he gave the first aid to Artan Imeraj (wounded) from Cerkolez.
FUSHë KOSOVA: Police intervened in the premises
of the District Financial Council and arrested Shyqeri Krasniqi (1961),
an economist. He and six others were taken to the police station. He was
brutally ill-treated and suffered body injuries.
PRISHTINA: In Fushë Kosova, police stopped
Bashkim Gashi (1970) from Matiçan. He was thoroughly checked, physically
ill-treated and his car was damaged under the pretext that he is a member
of the KLA.
LIPJAN: On the road from Prishtina to Gjilan,
between the villages of Suteska and Slivova, police stopped and physically
ill-treated Shaban Rashiti (1966), a technician from Vërbica near
Gjilan. DM 530 were looted from him.
VITI: Dr. Ismajl Bekteshi (1960), a physician
from Smira, chairman of the local branch of the Liberal Party and deputy
of the Parliament of Kosova, was taken to the Security Center for informative
talks.
DELAYED INFORMATION:
OBILIQ: On May 11, in Nedakoc, Nasri Krasniqi
(1982), a pupil, was taken out of the bus and physically ill-treated.
On May 22, 3 Serb para-militaries in the "Kosova"
cafe, looted drinks and threatened the workers.
MALISHEVA: On May 19, police in Qafa e Duhles,
in the outskirts of Suhareka, interrogated Ramadan, Hamit and Milazim Shala,
Haxhi Helshani and Refki Guniqi from Ngucat. They were severely beaten
and suffered body injuries.
On May 21, Cen Ramiz Gashi from Kijeva near Malisheva
was physically ill-treated at the police check-point in Duhla. He suffered
body injuries.
On May 22, in the village of Lubizhda, Mustafë
Krasniqi from Drenovc was taken out of the bus and physically ill-treated.
On May 23, police in Duhla stopped, checked and
physically ill-treated Isuf Bytyçi, chairman of the Information
Commission of the LDK branch in Malisheva.
VUSHTRRI: On May 20, security inspectors searched
for Bashkim and Shkëlzen Maxhuni from the village of Maxhun.
On May 23, after the protests in Vushtrria, police
physically ill-treated Nexhmedin Zeka from Vernica and Haki Behrami from
Dubovc. The latter suffered body injuries.
GLLOGOC: On May 21, in the vicinity of "Kodra
e Gurrës" and at the check-point in Komoran, soldiers severely beat
up brothers Nexhmedin (1967), Izjadin (1970) and Zeqir Ramaj (1974) from
Sankoc.
On May 23, police arrested and physically ill-treated
Besim Bajraktari from Çikatova e Re. They raided the house of Dalip
Bardiqi, in the vicinity of the railway station in Gllogoc under the pretext
that he had sheltered "terrorists".
MITROVICA: On May 22, after the protests in Mitrovica,
police arrested and physically ill-treated Gëzim Rrahim Hyseni (18),
living in "2 Korriku" quarter.
On May 23, police in the vicinity of Tuneli i
Parë, stopped the bus of the "Unioni" enterprise. Selman Lah Hyseni
(40) from the village of Kaqandoll was arrested.
7 policemen in the vicinity of the bus station
in Mitrovica arrested Muhamet Sylë Hajrizi (40), a professor with
the Mining Faculty and vice-chairman of the Sub-CDHRF in Mitrovica.
Police at the check-point in Shipol forced 9
Albanian villagers from Drenica to get out of the bus and to throw the
pails with cheese they were carrying. Ajet Milazim Baliu (46), Albian Hajdin
Ajeti (14) and 2 other children from Klina e Poshtme near Skënderaj
were taken out of the bus and forced to leave the bread they had bought
for their family needs.
Police stopped the bus from Peja. Mehdi Imer
Dragaj (23), a student with the Mechanical Engineering High School in Mitrovica,
and Islam Hasan Prokshi (38) from Leqina near Skënderaj, were severely
ill-treated.
On May 24, police in the center of Mitrovica,

cafe. She was interrogated and physically ill-treated.
PEJA: On May 22, police in the vicinity of Kryshec
arrested Sylë H. Gjocaj (22) from Raushiq.
On May 23, police in the Rugova Gorge physically
ill-treated Muhamet Sh. Ahmeti (29) from Peja. Brothers Arben (1977) and
Ismet Berisha (1974), "Sanxhaku" st., were beaten by the police.
In the outskirts of Peja, police beat up Luan
B. Voci (1980), a pupil from Raushiq.
PRIZREN: On May 23, police in the vicinity of
the "Lekë Dugagjini" Primary School arrested Nijazi Kryeziu, Behare
Tafallari and Sejdi Bellanica, members of the Board of the Student's Independent
Union with the "Xhevdet Doda" High School in Prizren and Dëfrim Rifaj,
a student with the "Bajram Curri" High School in Gjakova.
PODUJEVA: On May 23, police arrested and physically
ill-treated Tahir Rrahmani from Dumnica. A group of 20 policemen raided
Osman Kurtolli's shop in Shajkoc.
HANI I ELEZIT: On May 15, Macedonian police arrested
Asllan Thaçi (65) from Krivenik. He was pasturing his cattle. Later
on, he was released.
TETOVë: On May 23, police in Tetova arrested
Selman (27) and Agron Bilall Bytyçi (19) and 2 friends of their
from the village of Peçan near Suhareka. They were accused of having
connections with the KLA in Macedonia, severely ill-treated and handed
to the Macedonian border police. In a deteriorated condition they were
handed to the Serbian police.
