REPORT NO. 418
ON THE WIDESPREAD REPRESSION AND HARASSMENT PERPETRATED
BY
THE SERBIAN POLICE AND OTHER AUTHORITIES IN KOSOVA
FROM JUNE 7 UNTIL JUNE 14, 1998
As an aftermath of the
recent clashes in Kosova, 19 Albanians were killed and massacred whereas,
the whereabouts of two others are unknown. The number of wounded is unknown
due to security reasons. Serbian authorities are persecuting the wounded
and the physicians who are offering medical aid to them. Nor have we any
information on the number of casualties from the Serbian side. The number
of the ill-treated, arrested, persecuted, taken hostage is very high.
On June 7, during the
attack of the Serbian police, military and para-military units in Suhogërlla
near Skënderaj, Jusuf Rushiti (57), Ujkan Uka (55) and Muhamet Rushiti
(53), an invalid, the 3 from Suhogërlla, were killed. Since the very
same day, there is no information on the whereabouts of Sadri Demiri (50)
and Rexhep Zuka. On June 8, Serbian policemen buried the corpses of 3 killed
unidentified Albanians. In Peja, police ordered 2 grave-diggers to bury
the corpse of Zymber Hysen Berisha (60) from the village of Kryshec near
Peja, who was found dead in the Bistrica river, on June 4. On June 7, Zukë
Halil Zejnullahu (45), died due to the siege of the village of Llausha.
No medical assistance could be offered to him. On June 9, it was confirmed
that the corpse of Jeton Dabiçaj (22) from the village of Prejlep
near Deçan is in the morgue of the Prishtina hospital. On June 3,
the massacred corpse of Bajram Binak Aliaj (38) from Shushica was found
in the vicinity of the Uça mountain. On May 28, he had left abroad.
On June 12, Rexhep Musë
Mazrekaj (38) from the village of Drenoc was killed during clashes with
the Serbian forces in the district of Deçan. On June 13, during
the clashes with the Serbian forces in Qafa e Morinës, on the border
with Albania, Muhamet Imer Ukshini (22) and Shkëlzen Sylë Hasani
- from Morina were killed. On June 13, in the vicinity of the Velekinca
forest near Gjilan, Yugoslav soldiers killed Mefail Fejzullahu (1966) from
the village of Muhoc near Bujanoc. The very same day, the massacred corpse
of Ajet Kamber Gashi (1954) from the village of Bubavec near Malisheva
was found between the villages of Magura and Leletiq. On June 14, during
the clashes with the Serbian forces in the Carraleva Gorge, 3 Albanians
were killed.
The supplying with food and medicine has deteriorated.
Yet, the gravest situation is in the regions attacked by the Serbian police
and military forces. As it seems, the Serbian regime has once again imposed
an embargo on food, medicine and other commodities. In Rudare, on the very
border with Kosova, Serbian authorities are preventing 80 trucks from delivering
goods to Kosova. In Peja, police are preventing the supplying of citizens
with goods. Some 20.000 people were sheltered in this town. In Klina, bread,
sugar, oil, and other goods are distributed only to Serbian and Montenegrin
families. There is no water supply in Skënderaj. Many villages are
running of the electricity. Many of the killed and massacred are still
unburied. Many of the wounded are left without any medicine and medical
assistance. There is a threat of epidemics. Medical and humanitarian teams
do not have access to the affected villages.
