THE SERBIAN REGIME AND OTHER AUTHORITIES IN KOSOVA
FROM JULY 5 UNTIL JULY 12, 1998
On July 5 and July 6
the following Kosovar Albanians were killed by Serbian forces: Tahir Sali
Shala (34) from Loxha near Peja, Rrustem Beqir Bruçi (40) from Isniq,
Enver Tahir Alaj (23) from Drenoc near Deçan and Lumni Surdulli
(29) from Samadrexha near Vushtrria. Xhavit Ahmet Qufaj from Peja, living
in "Dardania" quarter 30, was taken hostage and was massacred by Serbian
forces.
On July 6, by order
of the Serbian police, the corpse of Muhamet Sefer Haxhaj (38) from Gllareva
near Klina was buried in the cemetery in Peja. Muhamet was killed on July
3, during the police and military action for the de-blockade of Kijeva.
On July 6, the corpses
of Muhamet Hamzë Elshani (60), owner of the electric mill in the village
of Piran, his son, Afrim Muhamet Elshani (26), and their worker, Sali Azem
Gashi (16), were found on a field in the village of Piran near Prizren.
On July 7, the corpse
of Hydaj Hajzer Popaj (54) from Bellacërka was found at the place
called "Te Rrasat", in the outskirts of Rahovec.
On July 8, Serbian police
brought the corpses of 5 unidentified Albanians to the morgue of the Gjakova
hospital. They were killed on the border zone with Albania. The corpse
of Shemsije Hoti (69) was found on the balcony of Ndrekë Ukë
Konaj, in the "Dardania" quarter in Peja.
On July 8, Sadri Arif
Kryeziu (1958) from Suhareka was killed while in his newsstand.
On July 8, the corpse
of Man Rexhepi (90) was found in his house in Drenoc near Klina. Man was
killed as he did not manage to flee during the Serbian siege of the village.
On July 8, Brahim Zeka
from the village of Skivjan near Gjakova died in the Prishtina hospital.
He had been wounded by Serbian forces.
On July 9, Serbian snipers
stationed in the "Ferronikli" Plant in Gllogoc killed Ali Dibrani (1944)
from Gradica, a worker with the very same plant and father of 3.
According to Serb sources
which refer to the Yugoslav army, 4 Albanians were killed on the border
with Albania, during an attempt to smuggle weapons.
On July 10, in the vicinity
of the border with Albania, Serbian police and military forces killed Ylber
Zenel Fanaj (18) and Albrim Zaim Fanaj (19) from the village of Vërmica
near Zhur.
On July 11, Selman Zhujë
Morina (58) from Loxha was killed during the shelling of this village.
The very same night, Rexhë Haxhi Morina (34) from Loxha died due to
wounds suffered during the attack of Serbian police and military forces.
On July 12, Shaban Binak
Muçaj (65) from Lluka e Epërme near Deçan, died in Peja
due to torture by Serbian police.
On the day of the police
attack on Loxha, Ali Panxhaj (44), owner of the "Delta Impex" enterprise
in Peja, was killed and thrown in a water canal. Serbian snipers were stationed
in the premises of his enterprise.
All in all, 29 Albanians
were killed and massacred during the last week.
There are claims that
many members of the Serbian police, military and paramilitary units were
killed but such information could not be verified.
THE COURSE OF EVENTS:
JULY 5:
PEJA: In Loxha near Peja,
there were clashes between Serbian police and military forces and Albanian
villagers. The clashes began when a group of Serbs in 2 "Niva" cars tried
to detain some Albanian youngsters. Albanian villagers rushed to help the
youngsters. Tahir Sali Shala (34) was wounded. Later on, he died of wounds
suffered. There are claims that a Serbian policeman was heavily wounded.
In Peja, police arrested Ali Haxhi Panxhaj (1953), "Sahit Bakalli" st.,
a watchman in a building material warehouse.
DEÇAN: Serbian
police and military forces stationed in Suka e Biteshit and Suka e Herreçit
shelled the villages of Gramaçel, Gllogjan, Baballoç and
Rastavicë, whereas, those stationed in Podi i Gështenjave and
in the military base in Hulaj shelled the villages of Carrabreg i Poshtëm,
Irzniq, Lluka e Epërme and Prejlep. The material losses caused due
to shelling are very high.
GJAKOVA: Serbian military
forces wounded Ali Rrustemi (25) from Babaj i Bokës. He was taken
to the Gjakova hospital. During the last 2 days, Serbian police arrested
Argjend M. Pulani, Florim A. Lipovica, Enver Lleshi and Bashkim Efendija.
For more than 2 months there is no information on the whereabouts of Florim
Ramë Jonuzi. Pjetër Hil Ndrecaj and Pal Prek Ndrecaj from Bitesh
are in the county jail in Prizren whereas, Hasan Isuf Ukaj is in the county
jail in Prishtina.
GLLOGOC: At 5 p.m.,
Serbian police forces stationed in the "Ferronikli" Plant in Gllogoc started
shooting towards the outskirts of the town and the surrounding villages.
In the "Bajraktari" quarter in Gllogoc, police opened fire towards the
shepherds who were grazing cattle such as, Haxhi Sylë Hasi (1922),
who had 2 cows hit, Ali Bajraktari (77), etc.
SKëNDERAJ: On July
4 and July 5, Serbian policemen looted commodities estimated to DM 15.000
in the vacant houses of Bali (44) and Ibrahim Rexhep Musliu (40) in the
vicinity of the police check-point in the outskirts of Llausha.
MITROVICA: In the vicinity
of the bus station in Prishtina, 3 Serbian policemen arrested Hamdi Nazif
Parduzi (43) from "Kroi i Vitakut" quarter, temporarily employed abroad.
DM 16.400 and CHF 4.300 were looted from him. His passport, driving licence
and visa were torn and he was severely ill-treated. In "Kroi i Vitakut",
Fadil Halil Maloku (26) was beaten by 2 Serbian civilians. Due to injuries
suffered he had to seek for medical help. At the Mitrovica hospital a Serb
physician refused to treat him.
LIPJAN: In downtown
Prishtina, Serbian police physically ill-treated Artan Sejdiu from the
village of Gllogovc near Lipjan, a student with the Pedagogical High School
in Prishtina. He was insulted on a national basis and his index was seized.
Policemen requested DM 200 from Artan in order to give him back his index.
JULY 6:
PEJA: The attack of the
Serbian police and military forces on the villages of Loxha and Raushiq
continued. These villages were shelled from the military base in Zagërlla,
from the village of Gorazhdec and from several other places. All roads
from Peja to Loxha were blocked by the police. Police ordered people living
in the outskirts of Peja, in the vicinity of Loxha to leave their houses.
During the attack the following were killed: Rrustem Beqir Bruçi
(40) from Isniq, Enver Tahir Alaj (23) from Drenoc near Deçan and
Lumni Surdulli (29) from Samadrexha near Vushtrria. Xhavit Ahmet Qufaj
from Peja, living in "Dardania" quarter 30, was taken hostage and massacred.
Mahmut Morina (65) from Loxha; Binak Hasan Dinaj (42), Ali Buçolli
(31) and Haki Rexhepaj (27) from Raushiq; Hashim Shala (34) from Broliq;
Sylë Muriqi from Rugova; Kujtim Dreshaj and Faruk Xhemajli from Peja;
Shaban Pejçinoviq (28) from Prapaçan near Deçan; Sinan
Halil Shala (24) and Imer Elezaj from Dubovik near Deçan; Shpend
Dreshaj from Vrella near Istog and Brahim Rexhë Mazrrekaj were wounded.
The houses of Rexhep Shaban Shala, Ali Rexhë Bardhaj, Hysen Tahir
Shala, Sulltan Murat Ademaj, Vesel Ibish Ademaj and Sadik Osman Morina
were burnt. The houses of Tahir Jahë Lajçi, Bajram Shaban
Shala, Zenel Haxhi Shala, Ymer Tahir Shala, Ali Selim Shala, Bajram Osman
Shala, Muhamet Ramiz Shala and Kadri Keqë Shala; Ramë Mustafë
Bardhaj, Zenel and Beqir Haxhi Bardhaj and Arif Sylë Ademaj were shelled
and destroyed.
The Albanian inhabitants
of the "Dardania" I-II quarters in Peja, were ill-treated by the Serbian
police. Many families have left their homes. Sherif Emin Haliti is among
those who were severely ill-treated. Rexhë Jashar Morina (59), his
mother, wife and mother-in-law, were arrested and beaten by Serb paramilitaries.
The very same happened to Zenun Morina, his brother, Zymer and his wife.
Police opened fire towards Asllan Fazli Krasniqi (57). He was taken to
the Security Center and kept there until the next day. In the meanwhile,
police looted, demolished and burnt his house. Bedri Morina from Loxha
was taken for informative talks and interrogated on the armed conflicts
in his village, the KLA, etc.
In Bllagaj, police beat
Cumë Bekaj, his son Sami and his brother-in-law Shaban. They were
fleeing the village and seeking for shelter in safer areas. 3 children
were with them. They were beaten and threatened to be slaughtered. Shaban
and Sami were taken to the Security Center in Peja. They were subjected
to physical ill-treatment and suffered many body injuries.
By the order of the
Serbian police, the corpse of Muhamet Sefer Haxhaj (38) from Gllareva near
Klina was buried in the cemetery in Peja. He was killed on July 3, during
the police and military action for the de-blockade of Kijeva. His corpse
was taken from the morgue of the Peja hospital.
In the outskirts of
Peja, police severely ill-treated Shaban Q. Peci (50), a bus driver from
Rahova, and Rrahim Mustafa (60), a ticket collector.
PRIZREN: The corpses
of Muhamet Hamzë Elshani (60), owner of the electric mill in the village
of Piran, his son, Afrim Muhamet Elshani (26) and their worker, Sali Azem
Gashi (16), were found in a field in the vicinity of Piran. The victims
had lethal wounds on their necks and heads, which were caused by fire weapons
and other sharp means. Afrim's hands were tied with an electric cable.
Serbian police and military forces opened fire towards the villagers of
Bilusha, who were working on their fields and gardens in Zhur. In the vicinity
of Hoça, police stopped a bus, took out the passengers, forced them
to lie on the ground and ill-treated them physically.
Hysni Ademi and Avni
Syla from the village of Molliq near Gjakova, Pal Ndrecaj, Pjetër
Ndrecaj and Hasan Uka from Gjakova and Xhelal Kuçi from Suhareka
were detained in the county jail in Prizren. They were not reported as
arrested by the police.
KLINA: In the village
of Dobërdol near Peja, Serbian police and paramilitary forces kidnapped
10 Albanian villagers from Rudica near Klina. The kidnapped had gone to
Dobërdol, in 3 cars, to evacuate their relatives, mainly women and
children, to safer areas. Eyewitnesses from Poçesta claim to have
seen the kidnapped tied behind a tractor. They were taken towards the village
of Gorazhdec, which is inhabited only by Serbs. The following were kidnapped:
Nimon, Skënder, Nezir and Arben Bajraktari; Shaban, Mustafë and
Bashkim Mehmetaj and Luan, Gani and Haki Ahmetgjekaj.
FUSHë KOSOVA: Armed
Serbs in Fushë Kosova are throwing bombs on Albanian houses. A bomb
was thrown on the house of Shaban Zymeri in the vicinity of the "Mihal
Grameno" Primary School. Serbian police and military forces are preventing
the villagers of Bardhi i Madh from returning to their homes. The village
of Lismir is still under the iron siege of the police. All movement is
surveyed by snipers.
OBILIQ: Serbian police
and military forces shelled the village of Hade. Fire was also opened towards
Bardhi i Madh and Lajthishta. There are claims that many people were wounded
between Hade and Obiliq and that no medical assistance can be given to
them due to the blockade of the Serbian forces.
GLLOGOC: Serbian police
forces stationed at the check-point in Komoran shelled the Berisha and
Abria quarters in Komoran and the Llapushniku Gorge. Serbian police removed
heavy weaponry from the check-point in Komoran and took it within the village
itself, due to the announced visit of international observers and journalists.
Hasan Cakiqi was beaten in his house-yard by the police whereas, Murat
Rexhep Cakiqi was ill-treated and threatened to leave his house.
SKëNDERAJ: In Klina
e Epërme near Skënderaj, police expelled the following Albanians
from their houses: Tahir, Avdyl, Mehmet, Halil, Fadil, Halit and Sefer
Hamza; as well as Avdi and Muharrem Bajraktari. Afterwards, police looted
commodities.
MITROVICA: Serbian policemen
stationed in Tuneli i Parë ill-treated many passers-by. Policemen
raided the house of Januz Hyseni (72), living in "Ura e Gjakut" quarter,
and arrested his son Qazim (42) and nephew Shefki (36). In "Kroi i Vitakut"
Serbs provoked Albanians by opening fire on their houses and by throwing
stones on them. In Shipol, police beat Fitim Fekë Shabani (24) and
interrogated him on the whereabouts of "KLA terrorists". The very same
policemen shot a calf in front of the house of Ismet Syla (48), chairman
of the LDK sub-branch in Shipol.
Serbian policemen, stationed
in the outskirts of Kçiçi i Madh, physically ill-treated
2 Albanian youngsters. A group of some 40 policemen in 2 APCs, one "Niva",
and 2 police cars, raided the house of Dibran Berisha (38), a former policeman.
He was accused of being a member of the KLA. His ID and passport were seized.
Dibran's father, Pajazit Berisha (72) was beaten. Police took photos of
the house-yard. The very same policemen severely beat Besnik Xhafer Hasani
(27), a passer-by.
In Ribariq, police stopped the bus travelling
from Tuz to Mitrovica. Many passengers were taken out of the bus. Zenel
Ramadan Alloqi (38) was severely beaten-up. 100 gas cylinders were seized
from him.
FERIZAJ: 3 plainclothed
policemen arrested Rexhep Bislimi (1966), an activist of the Sub-CDHRF
in Ferizaj. Police raided the house of Ismet Sadiku from Balaj. As he was
not there, police arrested his son, Ilir (23) and his daughter Shpresa
(20). Later on, Shpresa was released. Ilir is still in captivity. In "2
Korriku" st., 3 Serb civilians provoked Bajram Nazifi (1961). He was threatened
with the words "we will slaughter all the Albanians". In Nerodima e Epërme,
bombs were thrown in the house-yards of Ibrahim Osman Nuhaj and Shaban
Hazir Guta.
JULY 7:
RAHOVEC: The corpse of
Hydaj Hajzer Popaj (54) from Bellacërka was found at the place called
"Te Rrasat", in the outskirts of Rahovec.
GJAKOVA: Since last
night continues the attack of the Serbian military forces on the villages
of Reka e Keqe: Smolica, Stublla, Berjaha, Morina and Nec. The villages
of Zylfaj, Prush and Goden, on the border with Albania were attacked, too.
All roads to the village of Bishtazin were blocked.
OBILIQ: The situation
in Bardhi i Madh and the surrounding villages continues to be very grave.
Serbian forces open fire from their bases in "Kosova B" Power Plant, in
Janja Voda, Palaj, Pomozotin, and the place called "Pishat" near Sllatina.
Snipers continue to target the villages of Bardhi i Madh and Hade.
PEJA: "Dardania" I-II
quarters are still under the siege of armed Serb civilians. The Albanian
inhabitants of these 2 quarters were ordered to leave their houses. Police
beat Rexhep Ismet Loxha (47). They arrested Jakup Ademaj and his wife,
who had fled from their house in "Dardania" III quarter. Later on, Jakup's
wife was released. Jakup was kept in the Security Center and was physically
ill-treated.
Faruk Hulaj (18) was
stopped at the police check-point on the road from Peja to Rozhaja and
was beaten by the police. He was going to Montenegro to be hospitalized.
At the check-point in Savina Voda, dr. Bajram Shabani, a professor with
the Mining Faculty in Mitrovica, was taken out of the bus and brutally
ill-treated.
GLLOGOC: During the
last 3 days fire was opened by the police and military forces stationed
in the "Ferronikli" Plant. In the "Makolli" quarter in Çikatova
e Vjetër, Serbian police burned several houses and the premises of
the "Bashkimi" Primary School in Suka. In the vicinity of Zabel i Poshtëm,
Serbian snipers wounded Osman Kurteshi from Shtrubullova.
KLINA: Serbian police
and military forces stationed at the check-point in Kijeva shelled the
village of Cerrovik and damaged many houses. Since the police attack on
the village of Gremnik, on July 3, spouses Kosum and Sabrie Godanci, are
stuck in their house, which is situated 500 m from the police check-point
in Dollc. Serbian snipers target the villages of Gremnik, Qupeva and Volljaka.
FUSHë KOSOVA: Armed
Serb civilians broke the windows in the dentist office of Ilir Kryeziu
and the boutique of Shahin Idrizi. They opened fire towards the house of
Nevzat Ahmeti and the "Bujari" bakery. Serb civilians usurped 3 apartments
situated on the road to Bresja. The flats of the following Albanians were
usurped in Fushë Kosova: Halil Selimi, Daut Thaçi, Ferat Sahiti,
Zeqir Kasumi, Ramadan Kurti and Haxhi (Surname unknown).
VUSHTRRI: At the check-point
in Nedakoc, police stopped the bus travelling from Prishtina to Peja. 10
students were taken out of the bus and sent to the police station in Vushtrria.
They were brutally beaten and threatened with liquidation. They suffered
severe injuries. 9 students were released whereas, 1 is still in detention.
In the center of Vushtrria, police physically ill-treated Bujar Vehbi Surdulli
(29) and Sami Bivolaku (27), teachers with the "Zija Prishtina" Primary
School. Serbian military forces stationed in Brusnik shelled the villages
of Kolla and Shallc.
ISTOG: In the night
between July 6 and July 7, fire was opened towards the house of Mehmet
M. Bytyçi from Istog. The house was damaged. In Istog, Serbian civilians
broke window panes in shops owned by Albanians.
FERIZAJ: 20 policemen
dug in search for weapons the house-yard of Rexhep Bislimi (1966). Rexhep
was arrested on July 6, and was physically ill-treated.
PRIZREN: The corpse
of an unidentified man about 50 years old, was brought to the morgue of
the Prizreni hospital. The corpse was found at the place called "Rrasat"
in the vicinity of Rahovec. The victim was killed by fire arms. A convoy
of the Serbian police raced on the road from Prizren to Zhur. As the policemen
shot at random the villagers of Vrrin had to stop working on their fields
and to seek shelter in their houses. The same policemen at the place called
"Ura e Hoçës", stopped a bus, took out the passengers and forced
them to lie down on the ground. The passengers were prevented from continuing
the road.
MITROVICA: At the check-point
in Nedakoc, police stopped and severely ill-treated: Xhevat Sali Ademi
(28), living in the "Bair" quarter, and Idriz Daut Bajraktari (21) from
the village of Trubuhovc near Peja. Muhamet Ahmet Sylaj (16), living in
"Ura e Gjakut" quarter, was arrested and beaten by the police.
SUHAREKA: Faton Berisha
(1971) from Suhareka was stopped while driving a luxurious car and taken
to the police station. Ever-since he was reported missing.
JULY 8:
GJAKOVA: The corpses
of the 5 unidentified Albanians, who were killed on the border with Albania,
were brought to the morgue of the Gjakova hospital and buried in the Gjakova
cemetery by order of the Serbian authorities. Brahim Zeka from the village
of Skivjan near Gjakova died in the Prishtina hospital. He had been wounded
by the Serbian police.
During the last 2 days,
Serbian police and military forces stationed in Duzhnja shelled the villages
of Nec and Ramoc. Serbian police undertook a wide campaign of arrests.
Genc Shllaku, Palush Palushi, Astrit Beqa, Arben Saliuka, Hajdar and Vëllaznim
Podrimja are some of the arrested. Police seized 1.5 t of flour from the
Podrimja family and raided the houses of Selami Mulliqi and Drita Rugova.
Florent A. Lipoveci, Argjend M. Pulani and Enver A. Lleshi, who were arrested
a few days ago, were sent to the county jail in Peja. Bashkim Efendiu is
kept under arrest in the Gjakova jail.
PEJA: The situation
in the district of Peja continues to be very tense, especially in "Dardania"
I-II quarters. Serb paramilitaries and armed civilians are expelling Albanians
from their homes. Later on, the very same are looted. The corpse of Shemsije
Hoti (69) was found on the balcony of Ndrek Ukë Konaj.
There are no information on the whereabouts of
Hysen Ibish Ademaj, Fadil Selman Ademaj and Gani Xhemajl Ademaj - all from
Loxha. Xhevat Sadik Gashi (26) from Krushica near Suhareka and Visar Musa
Demiri (20) from the village of Pozharan near Vitia are kept in detention
in the District Court in Peja.
In the vicinity of the city hospital, police
beat Ibrahim Zymer Dreshaj (48) from Nabërgjan. Hard currency was
looted from him. His driving licence was seized, his ID was torn and he
was threatened with liquidation. In the "Dardania" II quarter, 4 masked
persons went into the house Pren Krasniqi (73). He and his wife Galë
Canë Krasniqi were beaten. DM 1300, jewellery and a car were looted
from them. Later on, the same people returned to the spot, opened fire
on the house, broke and demolished house furniture and ordered the Krasniqi
family to leave. In Vitomirica, fire was opened on the house of Sylë
Mustafaj. He and his family were forced to leave their house. Selim Mehmet
Meha (50), a teacher living in "Dardania" II quarter, was taken by the
police.
SUHAREKA: At about 8.30
a.m., Sadri Arif Kryeziu (1958) from Suhareka was shot in his newsstand
during an exchange of fire between unidentified persons and a Serbian policeman.
After the shooting, all traffic was stopped. Jakup Kurtishaj (70) was arrested
in the vicinity of his house. Later on, his house was raided.
KLINA: Serbian police
and military forces shelled the villages of Gremnik and Volljakë.
7 out of the 10 Albanians from Rudica, who were kidnapped on July 6, in
the village of Dobërdol near Peja, are in detention in the Security
Center in Peja. The arrested are:
Nimon, Skënder and Nezir Bajraktari; Mustafë
and Shaban Mehmetaj; and Gani and Haki Ahmetgjekaj. There are still no
information on the whereabouts of the remaining 3: Arben Bajraktari, Bashkim
Mehmetaj and Luan Ahmetgjekaj.
The corpse of Man Rexhepi
(90) was found in his house in the village of Drenoc. Man was killed as
he did not manage to flee the village. There are no information on the
whereabouts of Gjyle Isufi (80) and another old woman from the village
of Drenoc.
GLLOGOC: In the vicinity
of the Health Care Center in Komoran, police beat Fazli Ali Kastrati (1950),
a mentally disturbed person from Nekoc. Both his arms were broken and part
of his ear was cut.
VUSHTRRI: On the cross-road
connecting the villages of Bukosh, Duboc and Druar, police started work
in setting up a new check-point. Snipers were stationed in a vacant house
nearby.
FUSHë KOSOVA: The
situation is very tense and is deteriorating especially in the regions
affected by war. In Fushë Kosova, paramilitaries and armed Serb civilians
are attacking and destroying houses, shops and other real estate belonging
to Albanians.
The shops of the following
were damaged: Sadri Xhakolli, Nevzat Muharremi and Rexhep Hërtica.
The very same happened to the house of Halit Zhitia.
Police arrested and
severely ill-treated Remzi Robelli (1957), a worker from the village of
Laçiq near Kamenica, living in F. Kosova. He was accused of supplying
the KLA with weapons.
MITROVICA: On July 6,7
and 8 armed Serbian civilians from the village of Zupç opened automatic
fire towards the village of Çabër near Zubin Potok. Many houses
were damaged in the Muçaj and Hajdari quarters. The very same happened
to the house of Hasan Hasani. In "Kodra e Xehetarëve" quarter, a policeman
stopped and tore the ID's of Faik Jashar Jashari (46) and Mehdi Nazif Jonuzi
(46). At the check-point in Nedakoc, police physically ill-treated Mustafa
Istrefi (39) from Bajgora near Mitrovica.
PRISHTINA: Police arrested
and severely ill-treated Ilir Durmishi (1969), living in "Matiçani"
st. 10. Boshko Pupiq, a Serb refugee from Krajina, attacked with a knife
Fahri Ramadani (1958) from Prishtina, living in "Drini" st. 15.
On May 27, 1998, Have
Lekaj (1968), from the village of Lumbardh near Deçan, was repatriated
from Switzerland. Ever-since, she did not manage to go home. She and her
fellow villager, Sabrije Lekaj (1943), and Dake Krasniqi from Vranoc were
stopped at the police check-point in Savina Voda. The bus driver, the ticket
collector and 6 or 7 men were beaten. The others were forced to return
to Prishtina. Serbian police at the Belgrade airport seized Nexhmedin Lekaj's
passport.
FERIZAJ: 10 policemen
raided the house of Rexhep Bislimi, who was recently arrested. His family
was threatened and had to flee the house.
VITI: Police raided
the house of Hamzë Ramizi, chairman of the branch of the Social Democratic
Party in Vitia, living in "4 Korriku" st. He was arrested and taken for
informative talks.
PRIZREN: In Gradisha,
Sylejman Zogaj (1944), a pensioner, living in "Mostari" st. 30, was stopped
by the police. He was taken to the police stations in Xërxa and Prizren.
He was beat up. Later on, he was released after being tortured for 8 hours.
A police squad stopped Aziz Sedolli, Bekim Hyseni and Faik Kokollari -
all from Prizren. They were on their way to Brezna. The 3 were taken to
the police stations in Dragash and Prizren, beaten and interrogated under
the pretext that they had gone to Brezna to get weapons. They suffered
body injuries.
SHTëRPCA: At the
check-point in Gërlica, police stopped, took out of the bus and severely
ill-treated Zaim Refik Mulaku (1980) from Bob, a pupil with the "Skënderbeu"
Secondary School in Kaçanik. Due to injuries suffered, he had to
seek for medical assistance.
PODUJEVA: A police squad
searched for Avdullah Sadiku (50). Several days ago, he was sentenced to
a prison term of 45 days for being in possession of weapon without permit.
JULY 9:
GLLOGOC: Serbian forces
from "Ferronikeli" Plant are incessantly opening fire towards LLapushniku
Gorge. In Çikatova e Vjetër, Ali Dibrani (1944) from Gradica,
father of three, living in "Ferronikeli" quarter, was killed. He and his
niece Hafije Dibrani were crawling on their way home, as they did not dare
to walk. Serbian snipers from "Ferronikeli" Plant opened fire towards Nazif,
Nasuf and Jahir Qorri, workers with "Drenica" railroad station in Gllogoc,
whereas in the Qorraj quarter, several cows were killed.
OBILIQ: Random shelling
towards Bardh i Madh are going on since last night. The KLA forces are
keeping their positions. War planes from Sllatina flew low towards Drenica.
The house of the Toçani family in Bardh i Madh is on fire due to
shelling. Serbian snipers are preventing every entrance to Hade. The whereabouts
of the family of Kamer Morina - his wife and 3 children are unknown since
29 June. The corpse of Ajet Dedinca, who was killed on 29 June, while he
was returning from work, was not found yet.
KLINA: The villages
of Gremnik and Volljaka were shelled again by Serbian military-police forces.
Security authorities in Peja arbitrarily arrested the following villagers
of Rudica near Klina: Valdet, Sefë, Xhafer and Valon Mehmetaj and
Musli Bajraktari, who had gone to Peja to find out anything on the fate
of their kidnapped relatives.
MALISHEVA: In Kijeva
near Malisheva, Serbian forces burned the house of Halil Topllana. They
used gasoline to set fire to the house.
VUSHTRRI: Paramilitary
units and armed Serbian villagers of Frashër and Pantina set fire
to the houses of Ruhan, Rexhep, Behram and Kadri Tahiri. They also opened
fire towards Pantina and Okrashtica.
PEJA: Armed Serbian
civilians surrounded and raided the house of Beqë Brahim Zenuni in
"Dardania I" quarter and ill-treated him and his old father.
FERIZAJ: Police surrounded
Berishaj quarter in the village of Nikadin and surveyed the terrain. They
were leading with them a handcuffed person, who is believed to be Besim
Zymberi from Varosh, arrested on June 28.
PRIZREN: In Shtime,
police stopped the bus of "Epiri turist" based in Prizren, travelling to
Bulgaria. They arrested Avni Morina from Prizren and Selman Selimaj from
Grejkoc near Suhareka.
RAHOVEC: In Hoça
e Madhe, inhabited exclusively by Serbs, Serbian military-police forces
are taking their positions and opening trenches. At a check-point on the
road Hoça e Madhe - Rahovec, police beat an Albanian villager from
Zoqishta.
SHTIME: Serbian police
arrested Behxhet Hyseni, a medical technician with the Health Care Centre.
They confiscated 1000 kg of flour from Halit Hysenaj from Petrova under
the pretext that he was supplying the KLA with flour. Mustafë Hysenaj,
owner of the mill, was ordered to report to the police station on July
13.
PRISHTINA: Brothers
Zoran and Slavko Gjorgjeviq, "Aktash II" quarter no.65, threatened their
neighbour Sylejman Meta that they would burn his house. A while ago, they
had threatened another neighbour Hafir Hamiti, an LDK activist.
JULY 10:
PRISHTINA: Serbian sources
informed on some incidents at the border zone with Albania, in Vërmica,
Qafa e Prushit and Koshare, during which 4 Albanians were killed while
"trying to smuggle weapons".
ZHUR: The youngsters
Ylber Zenel Fanaj (18) and Albrim Zaim Fanaj (19) from Vërmica were
killed under unknown circumstances at the border with Albania. Serbian
army arrested dr. Naim Fanaj, a physician, Beqir and Bekim Fanaj and Haxhi
Kurtaj - all from Vërmica. They took all medicines from the office
of dr. Fanaj. The detainees were released in the evening. Many inhabitants
of Vërmica fled their homes and took shelter in Zhur. On the road
to Hoça, police arrested and ill-treated Hidajet Vilaj and Gëzim
Krasniqi from Vlashnja.
GJAKOVA: There were
fierce clashes between KLA forces and Serbian military-police and paramilitary
forces in Reka e Keqe. Serbian forces are attacking Smolica, Morina, Nec,
Stublla, Berjaha and other villages up to the vicinity of Junik. Fierce
clashes took part along the road Gjakova-Deçan. There are no casualties
reported. Many damaged military vehicles were noticed. In Duzhnje, the
houses of Hasan, Mehmet and Myrtë Zeneli and other houses were damaged.
DEÇAN: Serbian
forces went on shelling the Albanian villages. War planes and helicopters
from Peja flew towards Deçan and Gjakova. There were fierce clashes
in Strellc i Epërm. Serbian military-police forces shelled the following
villages of this region: Carrabreg i Poshtëm, Prejlep, Baballoç,
Voksh, Gramaçel, Shaptej, etc.
GLLOGOC: Ramiz Zejnë
Krasniqi from Potërçi is missing.
KLINA: After the Contact
Group meeting in Bonn, Serbian military-police forces intensified the attacks
against the Albanian villages. The village of Gremnik, 5 km away from Klina,
was shelled today.
MITROVICA: In the vicinity
of green market, some Serbian policemen, led by Milenko Bozhoviq, beat
and looted the following cigarette smugglers: Kujtim Bedri Dërvari
(25) from Zhabar, from whom policemen looted 2500 dinars and DM 60; Besim
Musa Zeqiri (12) from Kaqandoll, from whom policemen looted cigarettes
estimated to 300 dinars; Muhamet Xhafer Hasani (14) from Tuneli i Parë,
from whom policemen looted cigarettes estimated to 150 dinars; Nexhmedin
Miftari (25) from Mitrovica, from whom policemen looted 700 dinars, etc.
Policemen broke a car and seized the cigarettes in it. At the place called
"Krashi", policemen stopped, checked and beat Driton Vesel Gërguri
(34), "Qendra" quarter, looted DM 220 from him and threatened him with
liquidation. Policemen stopped and beat Zahir Bajram Deliu (24), "Bair"
quarter, and Agim Maliq Maliqi (54) from Zhabari i Poshtëm, and interrogated
them on "the whereabouts of the KLA".
PEJA: Serbian Attorney
began investigative proceedings against the following detainees: Agim Buza
(32), Florent Lipoveci (32), Argjent Pulani (22) and Enver Lleshi (30)
from Gjakova, Nazim Zejna (28) from Irzniq near Deçan and Metë
Ademaj (50) from Raushiq near Peja. Hatixhe Komani from "Dardania III"
quarter informs that she has no information on the whereabouts of her brother
Vedat Riza Komani (31) since the clashes in Loxha on July 6.
PRISHTINA: In Matiçani
quarter, police arrested Isa Kastrati, chairman of the Emergency Council.
They also searched for Islam Hajdini, a bill-collector with the District
Financial Council. After two hours, Isa was released.
SHTIME: On the road
Shtime-Davidovc, Serbian police arrested Raif Rushiti, an activist of Humanitarian
ë Charitable Association "Mother Theresa" and District Financial Council
in Shtime. Fehmi Alush Beqaj from Petrova was arrested and taken to the
Security Centre in Ferizaj. He was interrogated on the building of the
bridge over Topilla river in Petrova. At the place called "Gështenjat"
near Shtime, armed Serbian civilians shot towards Mullopolc and Petrova.
Serbian police were stationed in the empty water reservoir and opened trenches.
KAÇANIK: 2 military
tanks were stationed in "Leskovica" quarter in Kërbliq and the movement
was prevented from 6.00 p.m. until 6.00 a.m. In order to frighten Albanians
and make them flee their homes, Serbian army are opening fire and ill-treating
Albanian inhabitants. The following were ill-treated: Naser Rrahim Reka
(26), Bajram Nevzat Reka (24), Nusret Qahil Reka (23), Esat Ahmet Reka
(24) and Zymri Ilaz Reka (20).
In Doganaj, a police
check-point was set up and trenches were opened around it. Spotlights were
placed in 3 flash points. Police forces, stationed in "Bazhdarhane", continue
to stop vehicles and passengers, check and ill-treat passers-by.
PODUJEVA: Military-police
forces are parading through downtown Podujeva towards Prishtina. Serbian
snipers are noticed at the police station, whereas a heavy lorry was noticed
at the check-point of Besiana.
JULY 11:
PEJA: Military-police
and paramilitary forces from the military base in Zagërlla, from the
place called Qerhane, from the road Peja-Deçan, from villages of
Zahaç and Gorazhdevc, the latter inhabited by 400 Serbian families,
attacked the villages of Loxha and Raushiq. Loxha was attacked with "Kaqusha"
surface-to-surface missiles. Armed Serbian civilians joined Serbian forces
in the attacks against these villages. Due to shelling, Selman Zhujë
Morina (78) from Loxha was killed, whereas the following were wounded:
Rexhë Haxhi Morina (34), died in the evening, Manushe Shala (80),
Mustafë Emin Shala (28), and Gëzim Musli Morina (24) from Loxha,
Labinot Hyseni (18) and Nehat Kastrati (20) from Peja. It is believed that
the number of the wounded is higher. The premises of "2 Korriku" Primary
School and the cemetery in Loxha were shelled. The number of the damaged
houses is high and material losses were reported.
Many Albanian families
from Peja fled towards Montenegro. After the looting and the threats of
Serbian military-police and paramilitary forces, the quarters "Dardania
I" and "Dardania II" in Bërzhenik are almost vacant.
DEÇAN: Serbian
police and military forces, stationed in "Suka e Biteshit" and "Suka e
Herreçit", shelled the villages of Shaptej, Gramaçel, Baballoç,
Carrabreg i Poshtëm, Prejlep, Voksh, Drenoc, Pobërgja, Junik,
etc. There are no informations on eventual victims.
OBILIQ: Serbian forces,
stationed at Termo Power Plant "Kosova B", shelled the village of Sibovc.
They shelled Lajthishta from "Kosova B" and Janja-Voda, whereas Bardhi
i Madh from the military barracks in Pishat e Sllatinës. In the villages
of Lajthishta, Hade and Palaj, Albanians are threatened by Serbian snipers.
Serbian women and children fled Palaj. Armed Serbian civilians remained
in the village and are attacking continuously. In the vicinity of Janja-Voda,
Serbian snipers heavily wounded Xhevdet Stullçaku (37) from Mazgit,
Selatin Hashani (40) from Obiliq, both activists with Humanitarian ë
Charitable Association "Mother Theresa". They were on their way back after
distributing humanitarian aid, as allowed by the police. They also damaged
the lorry, owned by Habib Luta (1968) from Prishtina, "Mareci" st. 22,
who was driving.
GJAKOVA: Serbian police
and military forces shelled again the villages of Reka e Keqe along the
border with Albania and caused material damage. Situation within the town
remains tense and many persons are arrested, mainly those who have sheltered
escapees from the attacked regions. Due to the Serbian blockade, there
is lack of food and medicines.
MITROVICA: Last night,
Serbian police in Tuneli i Parë opened fire from automatic-guns. Serbian
forces opened fire in the direction of the villages of Mazhiq and Shala
e Bajgorës. There are no information on the casualties. A military
convoy of: 3 armoured cars, a lorry with soldiers, 1 APC, 1 ambulance,
2 lorries with ammunition and 2 water tanks, was stationed in the village
of Kutllovc.
FERIZAJ: Over 20 policemen
searched for weapons at the house of Shaban Viça in the village
of Greme. They also demolished his house.
PRIZREN: On July 7,
Ramush Haxhaj from the village of Grejkoc near Suhareka, father of two
children, was arrested by police and nothing is known about him, although
his wife has been told to be informed on his whereabouts.
SUHAREKA: Large police
forces were stationed at the Hotel "Ballkan". From its balcony, they keep
every passer-by in target, whereas police squads are moving through the
town. Several policemen are stationed near the primary school. Due to this,
movement of people has reduced and an amount number of them fled their
homes.
JULY 12:
DEÇAN: During
the last night attack of Serbian military-police forces against the village
of Strellc i Epërm, the following were wounded: Avni Hasanmetaj (33),
whose life is in danger; Xhevat Hasanmetaj (29), Sylë Hasanmetaj (28),
Hajredin Hasanmetaj (29), Isa Avdimetaj (32), Rexhep Avdimetaj (24) and
Selman Avdimetaj (15).
PEJA: Shaban Binak Muçaj
(35), retarded, from Lluka e Epërme near Deçan, died in Peja
due to Serbian torture.
It is believed that
in "Dardania" quarter in Peja, the day of the attack of the Serbian forces
against the population of Loxha, Ali Panxhaj (44), owner of "Delta-Impex"
Private Enterprise, was killed and afterwards thrown in the irrigation
canal. Serbian snipers were stationed at his firm. It is also believed
that two unidentified old women were killed.
MITROVICA: Serbian paramilitars
and Serbs from Frashër opened fire towards Albanian houses in the
villages of Pantina and Okrashtica.
VUSHTRRI: Serbian forces,
stationed in Stanoc i Poshtëm, opened fire towards the house of Rrahman
Plakolli.
DELAYED INFORMATION:
PRISHTINA: Sub-CDHRF
in Bujanoc (Eastern Kosova under Serbia jurisdiction) informs that on July
2, Albanian political activists and businessmen from this region (Presheva,
Bujanoc and Medvegja) are taken for "informative talks" and are accused
of helping the endangered Albanian families. After the killing of the Albanian
youngster Mefail Fejzullahu (1966) from Muhoc near Bujanoc, by the Serbian
Army on Velekinca mountain near Gjilan on May 13, 1998, and similar cases,
political situation has worsened in this area. Recently, first Albanian
refugees from Kosova have arrived. The action "Help for endangered families
in Kosova" was organized.
FERIZAJ: On June 26,
Serbian police in Lipjan took out of the bus and severely ill-treated Lutfi
Isufi, an LDK activist from Slivova. On June 28, fire was opened from the
police check-point in Gërlica. Later on, two lighting rockets were
fired towards "Evropa" motel.
On July 2, four Serbian
policemen raided the house of Emrush Ramabaja in Ferizaj and searched for
his son-in-law Ruhan Bytyçi from Mirosala village, as he allegedly
was a KLA member. Emrush was subjected to detention and physical ill-treatment.
On July 4, Hamdi Ahmeti (1925) from Tankosiq was interrogated on some damaged
graves in that village.
GJILAN: On June 27,
while workers with the Enterprise "Bardha-Commerce", "R. Sadiku" st., were
carrying flour in the storehouse, 12 policemen entered it and looted 6750
kg flour, 3800 kg sugar, and 1500 l oil, estimated to DM 10.000. The next
day, police issued a certificate to Ramadan Isufi from Livoçi i
Poshtëm, whereas the goods were sent to the Enterprise "16 November"
in Gjilan, run by Serbs.
On July 3, on the road
Gjilan-Prishtina, at the school of Bresalc, Serbian soldiers and civilians
stopped the car driven by Shyqeri Kurti (1956), a former prison-guardian
from Bresalc. They brutally beat him in the presence of his family members
and broke his ribs.
ISTOG: On June 29, in
Savinovoda, Serbian police stopped the bus travelling Prishtina-Peja-Rozhaja,
returned it to the bus-station in Peja, and interrogated several passers-by,
among whom Idriz Blakaj from Vrella, chairman of Albanian Democratic Movement
branch in Istog and member of the Board of ADM.
On July 1, Serbian police
arrested Ahmet Tafilaj (1968), a taxi-driver from Rakosh and was brutally
beaten by the policeman Momo Ogrenoviq. He was accused of killing two policemen.
Ahmet suffered body injuries. On July 2, in Savinovoda, on the road Peja-Rozhaja,
Serbian police arrested and severely ill-treated Selman Maxharaj and Rifat
Dreshaj from Vrella, Fadil Kuçaj from Studenica and another Albanian
of Berisha family from Saradran, all of them LDK activists.
FUSHë-KOSOVA: On
July 2, unknown persons looted the house of Remzi Robelli (1957) from Laçiç
near Kamenica, living in "Vëllezërit Krasniqi" st.53 in Fushë-Kosova,
a guard with the "Mihal Grameno" Primary School. The following day, unknown
persons burned Remzi's house.
GLLOGOC: On July 4,
Serbian police stopped Izet Hajdari (30), retarded, from Çikatova
e Re, brutally beat him causing severe body injuries.
MITROVICA: On July 4,
in the vicinity of the bus-station in Mitrovica, policeman Toma Devergjiq
(35) from Radisheva, district of Skënderaj, severely ill-treated Idriz
Riza Mangjolli (48), a teacher with "Frang Bardhi" Gymnasium, from Skënderaj.
Idriz was Toma's teacher. Bahri Ali Pllana (31) from Frashër i Vogël
near Mitrovica, was taken out of the bus and beaten at the police check-point
in Nedakoc.
PODUJEVA: On July 4,
Serbian police looted tobacco from several smugglers. On July 4, a plainclothed
Serbian policeman physically ill-treated Sahit Tahiri from Zhitia, who
was on his way to hospital.
PRIZREN: On July 4,
Serbian police brought Aziz Kryeziu (1967) from Sopia and Hilmi Parteshi
(1973) from Duhla near Suhareka, both wounded. They are guarded by two
guardians. The District Court of Prizren initiated investigative proceedings
against the above mentioned persons as allegedly being members of KLA.
After visiting his son
at the prison of Mitrovica e Sremit (Vojvodina) on July 4, Xhemali Hasani
from Prizren, father of Nahit Hasani, who was sentenced to prison term
of 20 years, reported that the Albanian prisoners that were transferred
there, are being severely ill-treated and are not permitted to get the
daily press.
