FROM AUGUST 23 UNTIL AUGUST 30, 1998
Despite the fact that
Autumn is yet to come, the first signs of a humanitarian disaster are appearing
among the 400.000 displaced people in Kosova. Many people in order to escape
from the brutal attacks, massacres and shelling by the Serbian police,
military and paramilitary forces have fled in different directions. Yet,
the worse hit are those who were left with no shelter over their heads.
Humanitarian aid is very slow in reaching those in need.
Several cases of death,
among newly-born-babies, were registered due to the poor living conditions,
lack of medicine and medical assistance. Due to the lack of medical assistance,
many cases of death were reported among those ill and wounded. Whole Albanian
families were killed by Serbian police, military and paramilitary forces.
On Wednesday, August
26, the following were killed by a Serb tank: Jalldyze (65), Halide (37)
and Ajshe Asllani (27), their children Burim (13), Lumni (11), Ejup (9),
Luljeta (7), Shpend (5), Xhafer (3), Antigona (1) and Albiona Asllani (6
months). Brothers Isak, Musa and Ekrem Asllani from Ranca near Shtime were
wounded. The Asllani family was fleeing the attacked region in a tractor.
On Thursday, August
27, in a tunnel in the vicinity of Açareva, Pajtime Xhelal Millaku
(18 months) died, due to the cold and lack of medical assistance. A mass
grave was found in Llausha. The corpses (5) could not be identified due
to their condition.
Due to the lack of medical
assistance, on Friday, August 28, Emine Olluri (29), a pregnant woman from
Krojmir (Lipjan) died. In Shiroka, police buried 4 unidentified corpses.
Due to the lack of food,
medicine and medical assistance on Friday, August 28, two babies, a 4 month-old-baby
from Javor near Suhareka and the 3 month old baby of Hajdin Shala from
Kleçka died in Pagarusha near Rahovec. Some 100.000 Albanians, mainly
women, children and elderly, from the districts of Suhareka, Lipjan, Deçan,
Rahovec, Malisheva, Klina, Skënderaj and Gllogoc, have sought shelter
in Radisheva, a village with some 2000 inhabitants.
On Saturday, August
29, in Shushica e Ulët near Istog, Serbian police executed 8 members
of the Salihaj family. Bilall Shala (47) from Guncat (Malisheva) died at
the Prishtina Hospital. He died due to injuries suffered while being tortured
at the police station in Ferizaj. Bilall was arrested on August 28.
During the last few
days, many Albanians were killed or died due to the difficult living conditions
in the open, lack of food, medicine, clothing...
THE COURSE OF EVENTS:
AUGUST 23:
SUHAREKA: The following
were killed due to shelling by Serbian police and military forces: Bahri
Hajrush Gallopeni (20) and Mehmet Misin Bytyçi from Shestan and
brothers Behxhet (52) and Ruzhdi Gashi (41) from Suhareka. Ymer Jahaj (50),
Sabit Jahaj (60), Jahir Sylaj (65), Remzi Sylaj (50) and Jetish Sylaj (70)
were killed in Sllapuzhan. Festim Sylaj (17) was wounded.
GLLOGOC: Serbian police
and military forces continue to shell the villages in the districts of
Gllogoc and Skënderaj. The following were killed due to shelling:
Brahim Bashota (73) from Komoran, Haki V. Delijaj (38) from Rezalla near
Skënderaj and Ganimete Azem Gjilani (19) from Bainca near Gllogoc.
In the Janova quarter in Korrotica e Epërme, Safet Selim Mala from
Rezalla was wounded. While fleeing from the attacked villages, police stopped
the family of Liman Islami from Zabel i Epërm. 3 men from this family
were arrested. These 3 and 3 others were taken to the police station in
Komoran. Ever-since there are no information on their whereabouts.
Serbian forces continue to loot and destroy the
houses in the attacked villages. During the last 3 days, the villages from
Komoran to the Llapushniku Gorge are on fire, due to the incessant shelling
by the Serbian forces. The phone lines were cut. There is no water and
electricity.
SHTIME: Serbian police
and military forces shelled the villages of Reçak, Petrova, Monopollc
and Belinca. Serb infantry overran the village. About 100 Albanians were
taken hostage. Many houses were set on fire. Later on, all were released,
with the exception of Shukri (1962) and Bali Hajrizi. Both were used as
shields during the police action.
KLINA: Serbian police
threatened the villagers of Potërç to hand in their weapons,
otherwise, their houses would be burned. Fire was opened towards the villages
of Kërrnica, Shtupel, Jashanica and Açareva.
FERIZAJ: Serbian police
arrested brothers Rrahman (28) and Sefedin Fazliu (18) from Carraleva near
Shtime. Due to fightings, they had fled from Carraleva and sought shelter
in Ferizaj.
PODUJEVA: Armed Serb
civilians opened automatic fire on the village of Shtedim.
PRIZREN: In the vicinity
of the local Gymnasium, Refik Reshitaj from Suhareka, a journalist with
the "Bujku" daily was arrested. He was interrogated on the work of the
editorial staff.
MITROVICA: In Gazivoda
near Zubin Potok, Serbian police stopped and arrested Shemsi Feriz Miftari
(25) from Runik and another Albanian.
AUGUST 24:
MALISHEVA: Serbian forces
shelled Lubizhda, Drenoc, Carralluka, Lladroc and Tërpeza. While distributing
aid to the displaced, Hajriz Haxhi Morina (26), Adem Morina, a teacher
from Drenoc, and an Albanian from Vërmica, activists with the "Mother
Theresa" Humanitarian ë Charitable Association, were killed due to
shelling. The following were wounded due to the shelling of Balinca:
Astrit Xhevat Paçarizi (8), Neshat (11) and Bejtullah Ferat Paçarizi
(14), their uncle Tafil Paçarizi (31) and an elderly.
SUHAREKA: In Duhla,
Serbian forces killed Ilir Jemin Përteshi (21). Serbian police and
military forces shelled several villages in the district of Suhareka. The
following were killed due to shelling: Safet Ilaz Kicaj (21) from Grejkoc,
Abedin Shala (63) and Shefqet Jemin Hoxha (40) from Suhareka and Mehmet
Lumi (24) from Ngucat near Malisheva. Vehbi Abedin Shala (27), Rexhep Kryeziu
(45), Hysnije Jemin Hoxha (61), Sadije Nysret Hoxha (37), Gëzim Nysret
Hoxha (16) and Visar Nysret Hoxha from Suhareka were wounded.
GLLOGOC and SKëNDERAJ:
Serbian forces continue their attacks. Haki Zenë Deliaj (38) and Safet
Selim Malaj (37) from Rezalla were killed due to shelling. Fatmir Sahit
Kastrati (44), paralysed, died in Nekoc, due to lack of medical assistance.
PEJA: Large police and
military forces accompanied by tanks and heavy artillery headed towards
Rugova and shelled the villages of Shtupeq i Madh and Shtupeq i Vogël.
Ramë Mehmet Nikçi (46), a teacher, was wounded. The material
losses are very high. Rexhep Istref Nikçi, Haki and Fakle Husaj,
Maxhun Nikçi and Skënder Gashi were arrested and taken to the
Security Center in Peja. Many displaced people from the districts of Deçan
and Peja were sheltered in the 13 villages of Rugova. The situation in
the villages of Istog and Peja continues to be very tense. Ultimatums were
sent to Albanian villagers to hand in their weapons. The situation in the
town itself continues to be tense due to the systematic violence of the
Serbian forces against all categories of citizens, especially against humanitarian
and political activists. In the outskirts of the town the arrests and kidnappings
continue. A widespread phenomenon is the detention of the elderly and of
women from the affected regions. They are ill-treated in order to admit
the affiliation of their men with the KLA. In the "Dardania" III quarter
in Peja and in the villages of Loxha and Raushiq, the houses which were
not destroyed are being systematically looted and burned. The houses of
the following were looted and burned: Elez, Shaban, Sadri, Kadri, Halit,
Rexhë, Isuf, Sylë, Metë and Arif Kastrati; Isuf Kelmendi,
Rexhep, Nezir and Sali Krasniqi, Lulzim Beka, Rrahman, Ymer and Haki Muriqi
and Isuf Sadiku.
KLINA: In Grabanica,
police opened fire on the ambulance of the Health Care Center in Klina.
The following were wounded: Imer Morina (70), Pren Rrapi, a physician,
and Mark Marku, the driver. The 3 were taking Imer's wife Rrahime (70)
to hospital. The car of Enver Hoti, a merchant, was hit. There are no information
on the whereabouts of Nimon Shaban Bajraktari (47), Haki Abaz Ahmetgjekaj
(23) and Bashkim Xhafer Mehmetaj (23) from Rudica near Klina. The Albanians
from Potërç fled the village due to a Serb ultimatum sent to
them. Serbian forces shelled Gremnik and Sverka. On burning the primary
school in Gllareva, Serb forces leveled it to the ground. Since July 25,
there are no information on the whereabouts of Asllan Abazaj (30) from
Gllareva.
LIPJAN and SHTIME: The
shelling of the villages in these districts continues. Serb forces stationed
in Kodra e Goleshit and Zborc near Shtime are shelling the villages of
Shala, Krojmir and Pjetërshtica. The villages of Vërshec, Leletiq
and Qylaga as well as those of Mirena and Fushtica (Gllogoc) are on fire.
PRIZREN: The Serbian
Run District Court in Prizren convicted the following students: Nijazi
Kryeziu (1977) to 7,5 years imprisonment; Aqif Iljazi (1977) to 6,5 years;
Bylbyl Duraku to 5,5 years; Sejdi Bellanica (1975) to 3,5 years; Dëfrim
Rifaj (1976) to 2,5 years; Behare Tafallari (1976), Jehona Krasniqi (1976)
and Leonora Morina to 2 years; Sherif Iljazi to 1 year imprisonment. Police
arrested Bashkim Shaip Kajdomçaj, technical secretary of the Sub-CDHRF
in Prizren. Security inspectors interrogated and severely ill-treated him
for two hours. Afterwards, he was ordered to report to the police station
and was threatened with liquidation if he went on working.At the check-point
in Hatmaxhe, police severely ill-treated Sami Gashi from Hatmaxhe and Mehmet
Kastrati from Prizren. Professor Sinan Ademaj, Bujar Hasani and Mazllum
Kabashi were arrested in downtown Prizren and were kept in prison for a
night.
MITROVICA: Police arrested
Osman Mujë Skënderi (49) in "Ura e Gjakut" quarter.
PRISHTINA: Police stopped
and severely ill-treated Agim Faik Qerimi (1971), "A. Gjorgjeviq" st. They
also hit him on his genital organs. Due to the injuries suffered, Agim
had to seek for medical assistance.
GJILAN: Investigative
judge with the Serbian Run District Court initiated the investigative proceedings
against the following Albanians and sent them to a pre-trial detention
of 30 days: Abdullah Tahiri (1956), an agronomist, an activist of the Union
of the Political Subjects from Malisheva, and Ahmet Demiri (1964), a former
political prisoner from Gjilan. Initiative proceedings was initiated against
the following: Skënder Azemi (1967), Bashkim Hamdiu (1971), Nagip
Sejdiu (1969), Shemsedin Halili (1968), Muharrem Halimi (1962), Fatmir
Mehmeti (1958) and Fatmir Halili (1966) - all from Malisheva near Gjilan
and Nijazi Kolgeci from Gjilan.
FERIZAJ: Rrahman and
Sefedin Fazliu from Carraleva were arrested yesterday and were released
today. They claim that Serbian inspectors severely ill-treated them while
interrogating them on some members of the KLA. They also used the electro-shock.
Random shots were heard in Kosina.
AUGUST 25:
MALISHEVA: In Pagarusha,
a village of 2000 inhabitants, where 100.000 displaced people from Drenica
and the Dukagjini Plain were sheltered, the following people died due to
the lack of medical assistance: Dinore Cikaçi (68) from Dobërdolan
near Suhareka, Shaban Islam Gashi from Peqan near Suhareka, Islam Bytyçi
(55) from Deçan and Zenun Mataj from Baballoç near Deçan.
Halim Hasan Balaj (40) from Dobërdolan was killed while on his way
to visit his paralysed parents, who could not manage to leave their home.
GLLOGOC: Ibrahim Abaz
Bashota (73) from Komoran, who was killed in his yard in Komoran on August
23, was buried today. The corpse was decapitated. The corpse of Nebih Tafil
Çelaj (45) was buried and only his bones were buried. Islam Dini
(70), an invalid from Fushtica e Poshtme, was reported missing. Gani Sheqir
Kastrati (22) from Nekoc was killed in Luzhnica. Ibrahim Feriz Kastrati
(48) and Ahmet Miftar Sylaj (64), a handicapped person, were killed in
Nekoc. Rashit Murat Cani (40) was killed in Baica.
During the offensive
of the Serbian police and military forces, the following were arrested:
Hamëz Dyz Zekaj (80), Sherif Hazir Zekaj (70) and Isuf Adem Demiri
(60) - from Nekoc.
The inhabitants of the
village of Sankoc were sheltered in the forests of Berisha and had not
received any medical aid or food. They claim that the whereabouts of Ilir
Ymer Ajazi (20) from the village of Sankoc are unknown since August 23.
KLINA: A Serbian sniper
killed Gjon Lush Prenaj (76) when he returned to Cerovik to check his burned
and looted house. In Ponorc near Malisheva, Halime Pantina from Gllareva
died due to the lack of medicines. The pensioners Zeqë Dinë Gashi
(65) from Sferka and Smajl Pajazit Morina (78) from Dollova were captured
by the police while they were leaving the post office. They were kept at
the police station for ten hours. Zeqa was subjected to severe ill- treatment.
PRIZREN: The corpses
of 9 Albanians killed with fire weapons were brought to the morgue at the
Hospital of Prizren. 4 corpses from Junik were brought in a van of "Çabrat"
Enterprise, whereas 5 corpses from Duhla near Suhareka were brought in
a lorry. The identity of the killed Albanians is unknown.
FERIZAJ: On their way
to work, Ramiz Shyqeri Ukëzmajli (23) from Jezerc was killed, whereas
Tafë Bislim Ukëzmajli (19) from Jezerc was wounded due to shelling.
Random shots were heard in Kosina since last night. Rexhep Behluli, chairman,
and Hamëz Muhadini, Mustafë Haliti and Rexhep Muhaxheri, LDK
activists in Dremjak, were summoned for informative talks.
SUHAREKA: The civilian
population of the villages of Reshtan, Studençan, Reçan,
Peçan, Sllapuzhan, Shestan and Samadraxha took shelter in the forests
around, where there is a lack of food, medicine and hygienic means. Many
of the wounded are in a critical state as no medical assistance can be
offered to them. Since yesterday, all the Albanians from the following
villages in the districts of Malisheva, Suhareka and Rahovec: Javor, Lluzhnica,
Duhla, Bllaca, Banja, Bellanica, Senik, Tymiqin, Nishor, Semetisht, Peçan,
Sllapuzhan, Reshtan, Studençan, Samadraxha, Dobërdolan, Lladroviq
and Lladrovc are in the open in the forests of Breshanc. Over 100.000 villagers,
mainly women, children and elderly are threatened by a humanitarian disaster.
LIPJAN: In the villages
of Vërshec and Leletiq, Serbian police, military and paramilitary
units looted and burned all vacant houses. Now, these villages are full
of policemen. In Poturoc, Serbian police accompanied by four tanks went
into the village and burned the mill of the Shabani brothers.
SHTIME: Serbian forces
shelled Reçak, Zborc, Petrova and Mullopolc.
PEJA: The Attorney's
Office initiated the investigative proceedings against: Ilmi Zeneli (24)
and Sali Gashi (31) from Petriq i Epërm near Klina, as well as Nikollë
Markaj (41) from Ramoc near Gjakova - accused of being members of the KLA.
VUSHTRRI: Serbian police
took out of the bus and arrested Beqir Bilalli (50) from Pasoma and two
other Albanians. Fiscal police looted goods from the shops owned by Albanians.
MITROVICA: About 30.000
Albanians, mainly women, children and elderly from the districts of Skënderaj,
Gllogoc, Klina, Malisheva and Rahovec, who had taken shelter in the district
of Mitrovica, are in a very grave situation. There is a lack of food, medicine
and clothing. A large number of those displaced is living in the open.
VITI: Police stopped
and beat Islam Misini from Smira. He was interrogated on the whereabouts
of his brother Lulëzim.
AUGUST 26:
SHTIME: Between 1 and
2 p.m., in Grejçec near Suhareka, Serbian forces fired a grenade
and hit the tractor trailer belonging to the Asllani family from the village
of Ranca near Shtime. The following were killed: Jalldyze (65), Halide
(37), Ajshe (27), Burim (13), Lumni (11), Ejup (9), Luljeta (7), Shpend
(5), Xhafer (3), Antigona (1) and Albiona (6 months). Three brothers Isak,
Musa and Ekrem were severely wounded.
SUHAREKA: Serbian police
and military forces shelled Bllaca and the villages of Malisheva. Police
are looting and burning the Albanian houses in the Suhareka quarters in
the vicinity of Reshtan and Peçan. In the Sopaj quarter in Duhla,
Serbian forces executed brothers Isuf (30) and Ridvan Ahmet Qatani (25)
and another one. On being captured by Serbian forces, Ruzhdi Ymer Qatani
(25), a teacher, was executed. In Semetisht, Izet Bytyçi (45), a
person mentally ill, was killed and mutilated. Many families from the Sopi
quarter in Duhla are kept as captives. Jahir Përteshi from Duhla was
wounded. The Sopi quarter in Duhla and the Reshani quarter in Grejçec
were burned. The village of Dragaçina was shelled. The villages
of Reshtan and Peçan are on fire. People have started to flee Suhareka.
Serbian forces killed Naim Hajrullah Berisha (30) and Xhelal Jemin Kuçi
(30) from Suhareka.
GLLOGOC: Serbian police
and military forces tortured and executed brothers Rrahim (75) and Rexhep
Alush Hykaj (62) from Kishnareka. In Korrotica e Epërme, Serbian forces
burned the house of Sylë Dobërdolani and looted the houses of
Ethem Dobërdolani, Bashkim Gashi and Xhafer Voca. 2 Serbian tanks
shelled the Dobërdolani, Pecani and Gollubovci quarters in Korrotica
e Epërme. These quarters are on fire.
Serbian forces withdrew
from the villages of Kishnareka, Nekoc, Bainca and Shala. On looting all
valuables, Serbian forces set fire to the Albanian houses. Serbian forces
looted the warehouse of the "Mother Theresa" Humanitarian ë Charitable
Association. All the aid brought by the ICRC was seized. The villages of
Duga, Karaçeva and Luzhnica near Lipjan as well as that of Banja
near Malisheva are on fire.
DEÇAN: The offensive
of the Serbian police and military forces on Deçan and its surroundings
as well as on the villages of Lugu i Baranit continues. Many Albanian houses
in Prejlep and Carrabreg i Poshtëm near Deçan as well as that
of Raushiq near Peja are on fire. These houses were previously looted.
The situation of the displaced (50.000), who were sheltered in Lugu i Baranit,
is very grave. Similar is the situation with the displaced (10.000), who
were sheltered in the mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna). They are threatened
by the cold, famine, diseases and epidemics.
GJAKOVA: In the village
of Prush, on the border with Albania, Serbian forces killed Ekrem Ramë
Prushi (17). There are no information on the whereabouts of Tush Tunë
Frrokaj (39) and his wife Ilire Mark Frrokaj (32) from Plançor.
The 2 were on their way to Gjakova.
PRIZREN: 4 unidentified
corpses were buried by police order in the local cemetery in Prizren.
KLINA: Serbian forces
shelled Gremnik. Fire was opened towards the villages of Cërrnica,
Joshanica, Gjurgjevik i Vogël, Renoc and Leskoc. Serbian civilians
are looting and burning Albanian houses. Some 20 houses were burned in
Renoc and Leskoc. The houses of Rrustem Boja and Bedri Rraci as well as
those of their brothers were burned.
MALISHEVA: Serbian forces
launched a new offensive towards the villages of Gajrak, Kravasari and
Banja. Many houses were destroyed. Fire was set to the mill of the Telaku
brothers. Zenel Hajdin Limaj, Besim Salih Limaj and Mursel Begaj (74) were
wounded. The humanitarian situation is very grave. Since the beginning
of the Serb offensive, there are no information on the whereabouts of Rasim
Daut Krasniqi and Demush Krasniqi from Tërpeza.
OBILIQ: At 3 p.m., Serbian
forces wounded Sejdi Preniqi from Hadja. Sejdi was harvesting his wheat
fields.
PEJA: The District Court
in Peja initiated the investigative proceedings against 99 Albanians from
the district of Gjakova indicted for "terrorism". Among the indicted 7
are juveniles. From the rest of the group, only 3 are in custody in the
county jail in Peja: Kastriot Gurkuqi (1967), Esat Shehu (1978) and Adrian
Kumnova (1974). The others are on the run: Aqif Shehu, Sokol Dobruna, Mazllum
Kumnova, Astrit Haraçia, Fatos Efendia, Kujtim Petërshani,
Gëzim Efendia, Hekuran Hoti, Fatmir Metahysa, Besim Bistrazhini, Hasan
Krasniqi, Bajram Avdullahu, Xhelal Avdyllahu, Agron Dula, Dren Bakalli,
Reshat Bunjaku, Labinot Lipoveci, Edmond Kaja, Erdison Meqa, Shkëlzen
Batusha, Dren Kusari, Blendi Shehu, Ilir Soba, Lazër Stublla, Muslim
Dobruna, Lekë Dobruna, Baton Vala, Petrit Geca, Adem Gaxha, ---, Agron Nagavci, Besnik Muhaxheri, Arlind Zhubi, Arsim Grezda,
Art Nura, Fitim Bradoniqi, Adriatik Meqa, Luan Gojani, Bashkim Daci, Visar
Kadriçeli, Albert Pulani, Tomë Morina, Albehar Fejza, Florian
Ukmata, Florent Ukmata, Agron Kurhasku, Bekim Krasniqi, Leonard Matoshi,
Sytki Raci, Fatlum Tara, Berat Tara, Afrim Hoti, Mehmet Shehu, Ali
Curri, Shpëtim Hoti, Muhamet Salaj, Art Kastrati, Fluri Kurhasku,
Kushtrim Gola, Uran Haraçia, Sabedin Shehu, Armend Spahia, Shyqeri
Zatriqi, Shpërblim Gjini, Leonard Shehu, Dritë Rogova, Perparim
Hoxha, Arben Shkupi, Driton Fetiu, Bekim Kadriaj, Blerim Mulliqi, Përmet
Vula, Elton Zherka, Arben Morina, Adrian Lota, Milot Roka, Ermit Shala,
Landrit Zeka, Tiliand Hoda, Arben Jaka, Ngadhënjim Haraçia,
Adonis Beci, Uran Kokaj, Arbend Bobani, Adrian Petërshani, Bujar Roka
and Agron Kryeziu - from Gjakova and Gjovan Bibaj from Brekoc. In the "Dardania"
II quarter in Peja, the houses of the following were burned: Miftar, Isa,
Rexhë, Zymer and Zenun Morina; Hasan, Haxhi and Daut Hasanaj; Haki,
Musa, Muharrem, Xhavit, Mustafë and Ukë Çufaj; Mustafë
Mujka, Shaban and Ramadan Kralani, Çaush Berisha, Asllan Krasniqi
and Sadik Seferi.
PRISHTINA: Since August
20, there are no information on the whereabouts of Rifat Kermeni (1975).
Rifat was travelling to Ribar.
KAMENICA: Begzad Q.
Sinani (1963) from Koperrnica and Ramadan Kryeziu from Rogaçica,
activists of the LDK, were taken for informative talks.
MITROVICA: At the bus
station in Mitrovica, police arrested Fadil Ferat Dajaku (32) from Rakinica
near Skënderaj.
KAÇANIK: Halit
Kolshi (70), Arif Lushi (77), Nazmi Prushi (55), Hajredin Zenuni (78) and
Shefki Salihaj (75) from the villages of Doganaj, Duraj and Gërlica
were summoned for informative talks to the police station in Kaçanik.
Later on, they were taken to the Security Center in Ferizaj and threatened.
AUGUST 27:
MALISHEVA: Serbian forces
stationed in Kleçka attacked the displaced who were sheltered in
the forests near Senik. 10 Albanians were killed. Among the killed only
5 were identified: Hyre Ramaj (60), Albin Ramaj (4) and Halime Halitaj
(17) from Senik, Sevdije Krasniqi (24) from Carralluka and Zade Kelmendi
Banja near Malisheva. The following were wounded: Feride Ramaj (30), Sahadete
Ramaj (35), Jeton Ramaj (11), Ylfete Ramaj (26), Fatime Ramaj (23), Besim
Ramaj (4), Rifat Halitaj (55), Florim Halitaj (21), Ganimete Halitaj (27)
and Arben Halitaj from Senik; Ramë Krasniqi (65), Fatmir Krasniqi,
Lulzim Krasniqi (12) and Alush Gashi (40) from Carralluka, Sofije Shala
(22) and her baby, Bajram Iballi (50) from Bllaca, 10 members of the family
of Ismet Zylfaj and 10 guests of theirs.
In Lladroviq, Ramadan Berisha (60), his daughter-in-law
(30) and a child were killed. Abdyl Murtez Berisha (65) and his wife Sanija
(53) were wounded.
SKëNDERAJ: On August
27, in a tunnel in the vicinity of Açareva, Pajtime Xhelal Millaku
(18 months) died due to the cold and lack of medical assistance. A mass
grave was found in Llausha. The corpses (5) could not be identified due
to their condition.
SUHAREKA: Serbian police
killed Naim Hajrullah Berisha (30) and Xhevat Jemin Kuçi (30) from
Suhareka. In Shiroka, police buried the corpses of 4 unidentified Albanians.
It is supposed that several others were killed. Serbian forces have surrounded
the villages of Reshtan, Dobërdolan, Semetisht, Peçan, Sllapuzhan
and Bllaca.
LIPJAN: The corpse of
Muharrem Çadraku (55) was found in his house in Vërshec. The
village was abandoned after the recent offensive of the Serbian forces.
Due to the lack of medical assistance, Emine Olluri (29), a pregnant woman
from Krojmir, died. She and her family had fled their village and sought
shelter in Lipjan.
In the "Lagja e Re" quarter in Lipjan, unidentified
persons burned Xhevat Rexhepi's cattle fodder. The very same people tried
to set fire to the "AR-Medicus" policlinic owned by dr. Abdyl Ratkoceri.
The fire was extinguished due to the quick intervention of the neighbours.
GLLOGOC: Korrotica e
Epërme was shelled. The Zogu quarter in Komoran and the villages of
Sankoc and Fushtica e Poshtme are on fire. The displaced, who have sought
shelter in the mountains, need urgent aid. Serb re-enforcements accompanied
by tanks, armored cars and other equipment were stationed in Vukoc, Çuka
e Zabelit të Epërm, in the Zogu quarter in Komoran, in Fushtica
e Epërme, Fushtica e Poshtme and in Polana near Golesh. Apart from
burning all the houses in Nekoc, Serbian forces burned the school building,
local policlinic and the warehouse of the "Mother Theresa" Humanitarian
ë Charitable Association.
MITROVICA: The corpse
of an Albanian from Klina e Epërme near Skënderaj was brought
to the morgue of the hospital in Mitrovica. From the check-point in Shipol,
police forces are opening automatic and machine gun fire towards the road
connecting Vërrnica and Mitrovica. In Vaganica, Behxhet Gjosha's cow
was killed and many house roofs were damaged. Police opened fire towards
Beqir Shaqir Shabani (55) from Lubavec near Skënderaj. He was on his
way home.
PEJA: In Shtupeq i Madh,
Serbian police detained a number of Albanian villagers. They are forced
to physical labour. Among the detainee are 4 women and a 3 year-old-child,
Dude Isuf Lajçi and her brother Mustafë Isuf Lajçi from
Shtupeq i Vogël. Police stopped a bus travelling from Peja to Rozhaja.
The passengers, mainly women and children from the districts of Gjakova
and Deçan, were taken to the Security Center in Peja and interrogated
on the affiliation of their men with the KLA. In the "Dardania" II quarter,
police burned 27 Albanian houses.
PODUJEVA: At 3 a.m.,
there was shooting from the police check- point in the vicinity of the
"Besiana" motel. At 3.45 a.m., a loud detonation was heard. 2 Albanian
youngsters were arrested and physically ill-treated. Gani Bejtullahu (37)
from Podujeva and Xhevdet and Nysret Vokrri from Sveqla were physically
ill-treated. 15 policemen went to the house of Zymer Hoxha and left a summon
for all the men of this house to report to the police station. At 2 a.m.,
helicopters flew over the villages in the district of Podujeva. At 1 p.m.,
a police convoy with more than 30 vehicles arrived from Serbia. 60 local
Serbs were drafted.
VITI: Serbian police
raided the house of Ibrahim Avdyli (1945). Police beat and arrested Ibrahim,
his son Myzafer (1972), Musli Musliu (1938) and Rafet Hasani (1950) from
Sadovina e Muhaxherëve.
KAMENICA: Begzad Q.
Sinani (1963), an activist of the LDK in Kopernica, was severely ill-treated
by the police. Police wanted to force him to make self incriminating charges
regarding his political activity.
PRIZREN: In the village
of Novak, Serbian forces arrested Nazmi (1934), Bajrush (1959), Atdhe (1977)
and Gani Luzhnica from Lluzhnica near Suhareka. DM 4000 were looted from
the latter. Later on, he was released. The others are still in detention.
8 Albanian youngsters were arrested and taken to the Security Center. The
District Attorney raised charges against Naim Berisha. Fiqrije Beqir Rexha
(1946) was taken to the orthopedics ward of the Prizreni Hospital. She
was wounded 5 weeks ago during the clashes in Rahovec. In Rahovec, Hamzë
Hasan Pista was brutally beaten by the police. Due to injuries suffered
he had to seek for medical help.
VUSHTRRI: At the check-point
in Nedakoc, police arrested Fadil Beqiri, a teacher and member of the board
of the Sub-CDHRF in Vushtrria.
PRISHTINA: Early in
the morning, in the entrance of the Technical Faculty, 10 Serbian hooligans
insulted and threatened the guards of the faculty and tried to break into
the premises and broke the windows.
The wife of Fadil Syloviqi
(33), a police inspector, and the son of Islam Mëshica (53), Bashkim,
claim that the whereabouts of Fadil and Islam are unknown since August
23.
FERIZAJ: Selim Guri
(1974), a student from Nikaj near Kaçanik, was taken for informative
talks.
TETOVA: Nefail Alimani
from Tetova stated that he had visited his son Abdylxhemil Alimani in the
prison of Paraqin. He was sentenced in 1987 in Paraqin. All Albanian prisoners
have been put in solitary confinement for a long time now. They are not
allowed to communicate with anyone and are subjected to severe ill- treatment.
AUGUST 28:
DEÇAN: According
to some unconfirmed information, during the first half of August, hundreds
of hungry women, children and elderly from Deçan, Isniq, Lëbusha
and Strellc, have reached the Qafa e Mylyshevcit. Tired of long journey
and thirst, 11 persons went to the Spring of Vasovila to get some water.
Serbian forces killed them and carried them in a helicopter towards an
unknown direction. On August 14, Serbian forces killed an unidentified
Albanian in the vicinity of this spring. Sadri Brahim Zeqiraj (1950), a
shepherd from Lëbusha near Deçan, is reported missing since
August 15.
LIPJAN: Serbian forces
shelled Shala near Lipjan. Due to this, Vehbi Shamolli (75) from Shala
and Rabije Mulaku (23) from Komoran near Gllogoc were killed. The following
were wounded: Blerim Sinani (33), Bujar Pajaziti (17), Habibe Pajaziti
(17), Sanije Pajaziti, Shpresa Pajaziti (22), Mehmet Pajaziti (25), Bashkim
Thaçi (24), Sofije Mulaku (60), Lirije Hasani (18), Sheremet Hasani
(52), Mustafë Hasani (43), Florim Hasani (10), Jeton Mulaku (9), Selhane
Hasani (21), Sabrije Ramadani (36), Sabit Bytyçi (15) and Blerta
Jakup Bytyçi (9) - displaced people from Vukov and Sankoc near Gllogoc.
127 houses were burned and 51 houses were damaged. The Health Care Centre
and 3 shops were burned. The school facility and town hall were shelled.
In Blinaja (Lipovica),
police took and severely ill-treated Asllan, Hajdin, Fazile and Florim
Nuhi Gashi; Burim Hysen Gashi and Ilaz Nuhi Dugolli. They were taken to
the police stations in Magura, Lipjan and Ferizaj (where they were tortured
with electro- shock). After 13 hours, Asllan, Hajdin and Fazile were released.
The others were kept in detention.
GLLOGOC: Since the offensive
of Serbian forces on August 25, two unidentified corpses are in the meadows
between the Bujupi quarter in the village of Negroc and the village of
Arllat. Serbian forces are shelling the villages of Fushticë e Poshtme,
Nekoc, Kishnareka, Sankoc and several quarters of Komoran. Fushtica e Poshtme
is on fire. The electric mill in Komoran was burned.
PRIZREN: 6 unidentified
corpses were buried in the town cemetery. The whereabouts of Vehbi Hysen
Kuçi (1932), a pensioner, are unknown. His house in Suhareka was
ruined completely by the Serbian forces.
OBILIQ: Serbian forces
continue to open fire towards the villages of Graboc i Epërm, Graboc
i Poshtëm and Shipitulla. In the Abdylaj quarter in Graboc i Epërm,
Serbian forces burned a very old stone house. The haystacks owned by Xhemajl
Shaban Mjekiqi and Habib Hamit Mjekiqi were burned. Serbian forces stationed
in Hade, Janovoda, Plemetin and the "Kosova B" Power Plant opened fire
towards Hamidia, Lajthishta, Sibovc and Shipitulla.
VUSHTRRI: Automatic
and machine gun fire was opened from Prilluzha towards the villages of
Çiçavica. Ahmet Isuf Seferi (38) from Shallc was severely
ill-treated by the police.
PRISHTINA: 4 armored
cars paraded through the center of Prishtina. Policemen waved Serb flags
and provoked Albanian citizens.
According to Smilja
Çuk (1945), a Serb refugee from Graçac (Croatia), since July
29, there are no information on the whereabouts of her son Gjorgje Çuk
(1973). It is supposed that Gjorgje was kidnapped by unidentified persons
while travelling in a bus.
FERIZAJ: In the center
of the town, 2 policemen and a Serb civilian arrested Bilall Shala (1951)
from Guncat near Malisheva, a teacher with the local primary school, his
son Agron (19) and a colleague of his named Rexha. On being physically
ill-treated Agron was released. The other 2 were kept in detention at the
Security Center in Ferizaj. Zukë Gutaj from Nerodimja e Epërme
was stopped by 3 Serb civilians. He was beaten until he fainted.
KAÇANIK: At noon,
Izet and Sahit Hasani (1956) from Semaja went to cut wood. Eversince there
are no information on their whereabouts.
MITROVICA: At the check-point
in Shipol, a passer-by was arrested by the police. The very same happened
in the "Ura e Gjakut" quarter. In the center of Mitrovica, a policeman
provoked çamerie Jakup Ceraja (29). She was hit with a rifle butt.
At the check-point in Klina e Epërme near Skënderaj, police arrested
dr. Ismet Sadri Miftari (45). He and his wife Naxhija were going to work
at the Health Care Center in Skënderaj. Ismet was interrogated for
4 hours. Later on, he was released. Osman Mujë Skënderi (49)
was arrested on August 24. On August 28, he was released in a very bad
health condition.
ISTOG: Osman Shaban
Fetahaj, Bajram Ibish Dreshaj and Haki Fazli Bicaj from Vrella were taken
out of the bus, arrested and brutally beaten.
AUGUST 29:
ISTOG: In Shushica e
Poshtme, Serbian police killed the following members of the Salihaj family:
Isë Hysen Salihaj (76), Shaban Isë Salihaj (47), Milaim Isë
Salihaj (36), Abedin Isë Salihaj (28), Hysen Shaban Salihaj (23),
Arben Shaban Salihaj (19), Hysni Shaban Salihaj (17) and Nazif Gashi (36)
from the village of Vojnik near Skënderaj, a relative of the Salihaj
family. 7 houses belonging to this family were leveled to the ground.
GLLOGOC: Due to the
difficult living conditions in the open, due to the lack of food, medicine
and clothing, the 3 month old baby of Hajdin Shala from Kleçka died.
At least one Albanian was killed and 5 were wounded during the shelling
by the Serbian forces. Since August 25, there are no information on the
whereabouts of Hasan Ramë Bilaku from Komoran. In Rashka, Sheremet
Hajdaraj from Dobroshec was taken out of the bus. Sheremet works in Slovenia
and was returning home.
DELAYED INFORMATION:
PEJA: On August 15, during
the Serb attack on the village of Loxha, Serb paramilitaries went into
the premises of the "Banana" and "Albi" enterprises, owned by Sali Nimani,
and looted equipment and goods estimated to DM 30.000. Offices, labs
and machines were demolished.
KLINA: On August 17,
police stopped the bus travelling from Peja to Rozhaja. All passengers
were taken out of the bus and forced to return to Peja. Several were physically
ill-treated. Osman Merlaku from Gremnik and Hamdi Raci from Gjurgjevik
i Madh are among the ill-treated. On August 20, police arrested Sali Gashi
(32), Elmi Xhemajl Zeneli (22), Fazli Zeqa (55) and Jakup Mustafa from
Poterç. All are still in detention. Miftar Zeneli from Poterç
was brutally beaten and suffered severe injuries. Police brutally beat
Banush Banushi, a worker with the District Assembly in Klina. Banush was
distributing administrative papers. He suffered severe injuries and had
to seek for medical help.
GJILAN: On August 19,
20 and 21, Halit Milazimi (1975) and Muhamet Vranoci from Veleknica were
summoned to the police station in Gjilan. On August 21, they were beaten
by the Serbian police. Police demanded from them to accept that they are
members of the KLA. On August 20, some 25 policemen searched for weapons
in the house of Gani Kolgeci (1941) in "Ramiz Sadiku" st. II, 17/2. Gani
is temporarily employed in Germany. Police searched for his sons Nijazi
(1960), a former policeman, and Hevzi (1963), a worker in Switzerland.
PRISHTINA: On August
21, Serbian civilians broke into the flat of prof. Shpend Vehapi (1951)
in the "Ulpiana" quarter C4 I 15. Vehapi, a professor with the Agricultural
Faculty in Prishtina was visiting his parents in Tetova.
FERIZAJ: On August 21,
Ibrahim Idrizi (1945) and his son Rexhep were stopped and beaten by 2 Serb
civilians. Taip Bytyçi, an LDK activist, and Vesel Thaçi
were taken for informative talks. Taip was physically ill-treated. On August
22, Ibush Bakolli (1957), Izet Osmani, Isuf Hashani and Arif Bajraktari
from Pleshina e Epërme and Sahit Shabani from Pleshina e Poshtme,
LDK activists, were taken for informative talks to the Security Center
in Ferizaj and interrogated on the current situation in the village. In
the green market in Ferizaj, 3 policemen physically ill-treated Flamur
Veliu (19) and 3 friends of his. DM 400 were looted from them. Police arrested
Haki Hashani from Gremja. He was taken to the Security Center in Ferizaj
and physically ill-treated. A Serb policeman stopped and physically ill-treated
Shaban Avdiu and Ibrahim Vata.
MITROVICA: On August
22, at the check-point in Nedakoc, police stopped the "Kosovatransi" bus.
Zeqir Miftari (55) from the village of Runik near Skënderaj, living
in the "Tavnik" quarter in Mitrovica, was taken out of the bus and ill-treated.
A military APC injured Naim Halil Haxha (27), living in the "Bair" quarter.
In a deteriorated health condition he was hospitalized in the Surgery Ward
of the Mitrovica Hospital.
PODUJEVA: On August
22, Serbian police blocked the market in Podujeva. Goods estimated to several
thousands of DM were looted from the Albanian merchants. Many shops within
the market were closed. In Lluzhan, Mehdi R. Bici was arrested and taken
to the police station in Prishtina.
VUSHTRRI: On August
22, at the check-point in Pestova, police arrested Idriz Klinaku (45) from
Gllavatin. Klinaku owns a shop in Pestova.
