THE SERBIAN POLICE AND OTHER AUTHORITIES IN KOSOVA
FROM DECEMBER 13 UNTIL DECEMBER 20, 1998
The vicious circle of killings in Kosova continues. On December 14, 36 Albanians were killed on the border with Albania. The very same night, 6 Serb youngsters were killed in Peja. 2 days later, an Albanian was killed in the village of Raushiq near Peja. On December 18, the corpses of 2 unidentified Albanians, who were killed in the district of Deçan, were taken to the morgue of the Gjakova Hospital. The very same day, the vice-chairman of the District Assembly in Fushë-Kosova was killed. Apart from this, 5 names were added to the list of the killed during the Serb offensives in Kosova.
Killings, mutilations, violent deaths...
On December 14, in the vicinity of Lugishta e
Hasit near Prizren, 36 Albanians were killed by the Serb forces on the
border with Albania. Until December 20, the following 31 were identified:
Isa Adem Olluri (1979) from Krojmir - Lipjan, Rifat Fazli Mziu (1967) and
Agim Mziu (1976) from Morina - Skënderaj, Avni Bislim Kutllovci (1977)
from Svaraçak i Epërm - Vushtrri, Isa Muhamet Morina (1958)
from Vranjaka - Rahovec, Fadil Bajrush Rashiti (1975) and Kadri Haki Ademaj
(1975) from Petrova - Shtimje, Ilir Hazir Asllani (1969) from Skënderaj,
Sylejman Zeqir Elshani (1957) from Gllobar - Gllogoc, Xhevat Shaban Thaçi
(1969) from Llapushnik - Gllogoc, Hysni Shaip Kajtazi (1979) from Tërrnja
- Ferizaj, Bashkim Azem Krasniqi (1977) from Zllakuqan - Klinë, Cen
Abdyl Qenaj (1959) from Romaja - Prizren, Hysen Kadri Bujupaj (1969) from
Istog, Mevlan Tefik Hoxha (1974) from Zhur, Luljeta Shala (1975) from Krajkova
- Gllogoc, Gani Hasan Zogaj (1973) from Gllareva - Klinë, Faton Gjylani
(1981) from Bainca - Gllogoc, Maliq Karaçica, Arben Hyseni Mujë
Halil Krasniqi, Ali Krasniqi, Beqir Sefë Gashi (1968), Bekim Qamil
Bytyçi (1978), Kadri Gashi, Agron Mehmeti, Mentor Ibishi, Muhamet
Dervishi, Selim Selimi, Naser Kelmendi (1976) and Ramadan Gashi.
On December 14, at about 8 p.m., the following
Serb youngsters were killed in the "Panda" cafe in Peja: Ivan Obradoviq
(15), Dragan Trifoviq (17), Vukosav Gvozdenoviq (18) and Ivan Radeviq (25).
Many others were wounded. The next day, on December 15, Zoran Stojaneviq
(17) and Svetislav Ristiq (17) died in the Prishtina Hospital.
On December 16, the corpse of an unidentified
Albanian was found at the place called "Lisi i Raushiqit" near Peja.
On December 17, 2 corpses were brought to the
morgue of the Gjakova Hospital. On December 18, they were buried in the
local cemetery in Gjakova. It is assumed that the 2 were killed on December
14, during the Serb attack on the villages in the district of Deçan.
On December 18, the corpse of Zvonko Bojaniq
from Sllatina e Madhe, vice chairman of the District Assembly in Fushë-Kosova,
was found at the place called "Kroni i Mbretit".
On December 15, it was confirmed that Sali Sejdi
Topalli (1939) from the village of Bainca near Gllogoc, living in Fushë-Kosova,
was killed in Vasileva on September 25.
On December 15, the decomposed corpse of Zekë
Hajdin Dautaj (42) was found in the village of Carrabreg near Deçan.
Zeka was killed by the Serbian forces on May 29.
On December 15, the corpses of Man Rexhepi (90)
and Gjyle Isufi (70) were found in the village of Drenoc near Klina.
On December 18, police authorities confirmed
that Shefqet Murteza Berisha (1953) from the village of Lez was buried
in Prizren on September 4. He was killed on September 1, during the Serb
offensive on the villages of Vrrin.
Kidnappings and disappearances
There are no information on the whereabouts of the following: Enver Smajli (15) from Carraleva - Shtime (since June) and Rexhep Rrahman Ahmeti (55) from Maçiteva, living in Prizren (since July); Hazir Kryeziu (45) from Mleçan - Malisheva, Enver Zymer Olluri (1979) and Qamil Hysni Olluri from Krojmir - Lipjan, Astrit Gafurr Bytyçi (1975) from Ferizaj, Besim Qarri (19) from Grejçec - Suhareka, Haki Morina from Malësia e Vogël - Rahovec, Emin Kelmendi, Ramadan and Gani Elshani, Xhavit Krasniqi, Xhelal Xheladini, Hafir Bajrami, Xhevdet Berisha, Namik Shoshaj, Shemsi Dobruna, Hazir Oruqaj and Xhevdet Tolaj - all went missing on December 14, in Lugishta e Hasit - Prizren.
Trials...
On December 14, the Serbian run District Court
in Peja sentenced Nikollë P. Markaj (1957) from the village of Ramoc
near Gjakova to 10 months of imprisonment. He was accused for "hostile
activity".
On December 14, the Serbian run District Court
in Prishtina sentenced Jakup Rexhepi (23) from the village of Gracka near
Lipjan to 2 years of imprisonment. He was accused for "hostile activity".
On December 15, the Serbian run District Court
in Prizren sentenced Besnik Hasan Kuka (1941), a driver with the local
hospital in Prizren, to 5 years of imprisonment. He was accused for "terrorism".
On December 16, the very same court sentenced
Atdhe Gani Luzhnica (1977) from Luzhnica near Suhareka and Skënder
Ymer Morina (1978) from Gexha near Rahovec to 2 and a half years of imprisonment
each. They were accused of "hostile activity" and "terrorism".
On December 17, the Serbian run District Court
in Prishtina sentenced Shkëlzen Salih Zariqi (18) to 6 years of imprisonment;
and Sali Selman Zariqi (43) from Prishtina and Albert Demë Shala (23)
from Ujmir near Klina to 2 years of imprisonment. All 3 were accused for
"hostile activity".
THE COURSE OF EVENTS:
DECEMBER 13:
PRIZREN: Between 2 and 6.45 a.m., there was shooting
in the village of Kushnin. A Serb convoy comprised of 3 armoured cars,
1 APC and 10 trucks full of soldiers left Romaja and headed towards the
villages of Kushnin, Kabash and Lubizhda. These villages were surrounded
by Serb forces. Several wounded were reported in the Morina quarter.
VUSHTRRI: Ramush Q. Salihu (19) from the village
of Pasoma was arrested in the vicinity of the bus station in Mitrovica.
He was detained until 11 p.m., interrogated on the KLA, and physically
ill-treated. Ramush was released but ordered to report again. His uncle
Ramadan Aliu was taken to the police station too.
PRISHTINA: The night between December 12-13,
unidentified persons damaged the inventory of the "Mitrush Kuteli" Primary
School in Matiçan. They broke many windows, doors, etc.
GJAKOVA: A military APC hit Driton H. Zeqiri
(10) from the village of Nivokaz. The child was grabbed by the soldiers
and taken towards Junik. Ever-since, his family has no information on his
whereabouts.
DECEMBER 14:
PRIZREN: Large military forces were stationed
in the vicinity of the villages of Gjonaj and Planeja on the border with
Albania. A military helicopter flew over these villages. The families of
Tahir and Sali Kabashi were evicted from their houses in the village of
Kabash. Serb soldiers were housed in them. In the early hours of the morning,
8 trucks full of Serb soldiers, 4 armoured cars and 2 police vehicles went
towards the villages of Kushnin, Lugishta, Dedaj and Rogova e Hasit. Later
on, 4 APCs went towards Rogova. The situation in these villages is very
dramatic, especially in the Morina quarter in Kushnin. The population is
fleeing. In Lugishta e Hasit, Serb military forces arrested the following:
Ismet Mursel Mazreku (1957) from Malisheva, Samet Aqif Ballazhi (1977)
and Azem Haqir Suma (1972) from Hani i Elezit, Nazmi Sadri Bellaqi (1977)
and Sherif Sylë Bellaqi (1971) from Potoçan i Epërm-Rahovec,
Xhavit Daut Krasniqi (1981) from Duga-Shtime, Enver Liman Krasniqi (1973)
from Karaçica-Shtime, Blerim Kadri Spahiu (1971) from Runik-Skënderaj
and Merita Baftiar Ramadani (1982) from Likoc-Skënderaj.
GJAKOVA: A police squad of over 50 policemen,
among whom the so-called "local policemen" brothers Jakupi from Osek-Hyla
raided and demolished the houses of Nimon Maxhuni, Musa Beqiri, Halit Sadriu
and Halit Ademi from Rracaj, under the pretext of searching for weapons
and some youngsters. They beat and arrested brothers Musa (40), Isa (35)
and Vehbi Beqiri (28) from Rracaj and Brahim Kokalla from Cërmjan.
Policemen threatened Halit Ademi's wife with an automatic and looted DM
700 from her. According to witnesses, several other members of this family
were arrested, too.
At about 10.00 p.m., Serbian military and police
forces shelled Hereç for 30 minutes and burned 4 houses. While withdrawing,
they opened fire towards the houses in Plançor and damaged many
houses, private shops, premises of "Fan Noli" Primary School and the Catholic
Church. Those returned were forced to flee their homes again and spent
the night in the open.
SUHAREKA: Police are still stationed at the check-points
in Reshtan, Grejçec and Duhla, where Ilmi Rrahim Perteshi (1964)
from Duhla was ill-treated.
PODUJEVA: At noon, 5 military jeeps full of Serb
soldiers headed towards Prishtina. Two tanks paraded on the road from the
border with Serbia to Podujeva.
VITI: On the road between Ferizaj and Gërlica,
two Serb policemen stopped Ilir Maliqi (1974), a merchant from Goshica,
and Naim Alidemaj from Pozharan. They were taken out of the car and physically
ill-treated.
VUSHTRRI: Serb police arrested Skender Haliti
from Vushtrri.
DECEMBER 15:
MITROVICA: Two buses, a lorry, a jeep and an APC
full of policemen came from the direction of Rashka and were stationed
in the military barracks in Mitrovica. In the meantime, 2 lorries, 3 APCs
equipped with heavy machine guns and a jeep full of policemen left Mitrovica
and headed towards Skënderaj. Serb policemen intervened in the "Kçiqi"
tea shop in the vicinity of the green market.
PODUJEVA: 8 buses and 4 other vehicles full of
policemen came from Serbia and headed towards Prishtina. Tens of Serb policemen
were stationed in the vicinity of the bus station in the village of Lupç.
They are ill-treating passers-by and surveying the terrain.
VUSHTRRI: At about 11 a.m., 3 APCs full of Serb
policemen headed towards Pantina. Later on, they paraded through the streets
of Vushtrria. Serbian police and military forces in two lorries, an armoured
car and a jeep were stationed in the vicinity of the primary school in
Shtitarica. They provoked the local villagers for half an hour. In Stanoc
i Poshtëm, police searched for Haxhi Bali Vojvoda.
PRIZREN: In the vicinity of the hospital, two
police inspectors arrested Sami Nuhi Berisha (1967) from Lez. More than
10 policemen surrounded the "Shtrumfat" shopping center, in which the offices
of the Sub-CDHRF, LDK and LBD are located.
OBILIQ: The villagers of Graboc i Epërm
and Shipitulla are still targeted by the Serb forces stationed at "Kërshat
e Grabocit". In Obiliq, police stopped buses and ill-treated passengers
(pupils and workers).
HANI I ELEZIT: In the early hours of the morning,
large police forces in 4 APCs and 2 other vehicles surrounded the "Lagjja
e Re" quarter and raided several houses. Zylbehar Hasallari, chairman of
the LDK branch in Hani i Elezit, was severely ill-treated. His brother
Sadedin Hasallari was arrested. The very same happened to Beqir Ballazhi,
Shaban Miçi and Muhabi Siti and his two sons.
PRISHTINA: On leaving the "Shën Ndou" Catholic
Church, Pal Balaj, a jurist from Bec and chairman of the "Pjetër Bogdani"
Action of the Albanian Youth Association, Kristë Duzhmani, an engineer
and member of the very same, as well as Engjëll Duzhmani, a student,
both from Korenica near Gjakova, were severely ill-treated by ten Serb
civilians. In the vicinity of the "Electro-Kosova" building, police beat
Rrahim Sadiku, a newsagent.
GLLOGOC: Qefsere Hysenaj (1964) from Abria e
Epërme was allowed by the investigative judge with the Serbian run
District Court in Prishtina to visit her husband Ramadan Halil Hysenaj
(1955), who was arrested during the Serbian offensive in September. She
was told that Ramadan was neither in the prison of Prishtina nor in that
of Lipjan. Qefsere saw her husband on December 1, in the prison of Prishtina
for the last time.
DECEMBER 16:
PEJA: The situation in Peja, after the killing
of 6 Serb youngsters, is very grave. Policemen are checking the identities
of and ill-treating passers-by. Due to the feeling of insecurity all Albanian
shops are closed. At noon, Serbs and Montenegrins protested through the
streets of the town. In different parts of the town, Serb civilians beat
tens of Albanians. Many suffered severe body injuries. The following pupils
of the Technical Secondary School were among the ill-treated: Ilir Kurtaj
from Radavc, Fatos and Florent Panduri from Peja, Ajet Smajli from Ramun
as well as Arben Gjikolli, their teacher. Due to the above mentioned, it
was decided to postpone lessons for the time being.
During the night, armed Serb civilians opened
fire and demolished shops owned by Albanians. At midnight, unidentified
persons threatened dr. Januz Zejnullahu, an internist with the Peja Hospital.
His brother dr. Nuredin Zejnullahu had been killed by unidentified persons.
In the early hours of the morning, Serb policemen
raided the house of Tahir Loxha, chairman of the "Mother Theresa" Humanitarian
& Charitable Association in Vitomirica. His son Beqir (21) was arrested.
During the raid policemen demolished house furniture and the warehouse
of this association. Policemen also raided the house of Ramë Mehmet
Bajrami (60) and arrested his 2 sons Mehmet (36) and Xhevdet (20). Police
raided the house of Brahim Ukë Përgjegjaj (55) and arrested his
son Vëllaznim (19).
PRIZREN: Last night after midnight, fire was
opened from the military base in Cvilen towards the villages of Vrrin.
Serb military forces were stationed in Planeja, in the local policlinic
and in three shops in this village. Large forces were concentrated in Milaj
and Gorozhup. A police squad of about 30 policemen was stationed in the
vicinity of Landovica. Buses and other vehicles travelling between Gjakova
and Prizren were stopped. 5 armoured cars and 2 landrovers full of Serb
soldiers were stationed at the place called Gradisha. Many Serb soldiers
were sent to Ratkoc. In the center of the town, police arrested Maksut
Rizanaj from Vlashnja. Later on, his house was raided. Xhafer Gashi from
Landovica and Sami N. Berisha from Lez were arrested, too. 40 Albanian
families abandoned their houses in the village of Lugishta due to the Serb
violence.
MITROVICA: 3 lorries and an armoured car with
a rocket-launcher left Mitrovica and headed towards Skënderaj. Several
secondary school Serb pupils beat Edona Sylejman Beqiri (10) from Bajgora,
sheltered in Mitrovica. In the center of Skënderaj, 5 policemen stopped
Halit Rushit Barani (47), chairman of the Sub-CDHRF in Mitrovica, and Hasan
Bajrush Dërvari (40), member of the Sub-CDHRF Board.
PRISHTINA: In the vicinity of the students' restaurant,
a group of Serb students beat several Albanian youngsters, mainly pupils
of the Medical Secondary School. The following were among the ill-treated:
Blerim Zharku (15), Armend Tërmkolli (15) and Rinor Hykolli (15),
all three from Bardh i Madh near Fushë-Kosova. In the vicinity of
the city stadium, three Serb youngsters beat Afrim Brajshori (15) and Shkëlzen
Januzi (14), both from Prishtina. In the evening, in "Lenini" st., ten
armed Serb civilians beat students Mehmet Shukolli (1977) from Prizren
and Ardian Biba (1979) from Prishtina. The latter was injected a syringe
and ever since he has convulsions. Two policemen named Sllavko and Zoran
searched for Sahit Zeka (1954), a driver, living in "Drenica I" st.39.
Failing to find him, they arrested his brother Gani. On interrogating him,
they released him on the condition that Sahit is to report to the police
station until December 24.
FERIZAJ: Many buses full of Serb policemen arrived
from Serbia. After 8 a.m., in the center of the town, a group of Serb civilians
provoked and assaulted Albanian passers-by. Fightings erupted between the
two groups. Several Albanians were arrested. During the last two days,
organized groups of Serb civilians broke the windows in several shops owned
by Albanians.
SHTIME: Police arrested Isa Tërshana, a
khoja with the local mosque, and took him to the police station in Ferizaj.
Many Albanians were arrested, even in the presence of the OSCE observers.
GLLOGOC: Large police forces were stationed at
the cross-road in Komoran and ill-treated passers-by. At 1 p.m., in the
vicinity of the poultry farm in Krivova, police stopped and ill-treated
many passers-by. Avni Zekë Zekaj (1975) from Nekoc was arrested.
SUHAREKA: 3 buses, 1 truck and 3 other vehicles
full of Serb policemen came from the direction of Shtime and headed towards
Prizren. Later on, they were joined by 2 buses. The policemen were stationed
in the "Ballkan" Hotel. A military convoy of 6 buses, 4 vehicles with anti-aircraft
weapons and 2 armoured cars paraded through Suhareka and headed towards
Prizren.
VUSHTRRI: At about noon, 3 trucks and a jeep
full of policemen went to Druar and Mihaliq. After a while, policemen returned
to Vushtrri through Pestova and Nedakoc. At the old bus station in Vushtrri,
several policemen severely ill-treated Arsim I. Maxhuni (17) from Ropica
and caused him severe injuries on his head. At the cross-road in Stanoc
i Poshtëm, large police forces are checking passers-by. 3 teachers
with the "Shkëndija" Primary School were subjected to ill-treatment.
DECEMBER 17:
PEJA: Large motorized police and military forces
surrounded the "Karagaçi" and "Zatra" quarters. Many Albanian houses
were raided. The following were arrested: Jusuf Lataj, a khoja, his brothers
Mustafa and Isa, his sons Jahja and Seadin, his nephews Beqir and Enis
Hoxha, as well as his relative Shaqir. Apart from him, all the others are
still in detention. In the early hours of the morning, Serb forces surrounded
the "Kapeshnica" quarter. This quarter has some 20.000 inhabitants and
a large number of displaced people were sheltered there. According to the
KVM, all the roads to and fro are blocked. Large Serb forces are parading
through the streets of the town. Many Albanian citizens from these quarters
were arrested. Later on, a number of those detained were released after
being ill-treated in police custody.
The following were arrested and released after
being ill-treated in police custody: Haxhi Ali Ukella (33), Shefqet Mehmet
Ukella (32), Besim (33) and Bekim Ibrahim Ukella (30), Driton Latif Kelmendi
(20), Metë (28) and Arben Gëzim Qaka (30), Nexhdet Ukshin Ibishi
(35), Bajram Riza Zeli (55), Lulzim (33) and Alkin Fahredin Zeli (39),
Ali (33) and Agim Nazmi Hoti (27), Arian Nijazi Belegu (20), Tomorr Ramiz
Zeka (24), Ramë Metë Hoti (40), Xhevdet Ymer Ukella (41), Lulzim
Adem Brala (19), Hysen Miftar Hyseni (45), Hydaverdi Mustafë Kelmendi
(32), Minush Hoxha (53), secretary of the Economical High School, Mehdin
(25) and Mexhit Mehmet Zeqa (25), Selman Mustafë Mataj (23), Ramë
Mehë Hoti (36), Sadik Çaush Mulaj (17), Afrim Bajram Muriqi
(17), Hysen Elez Kukalaj (57), Bekim Hysen Kukalaj (20), Lulzim Rashit
Pupovci, Agim Adem Brala (25), Sami Xhemë Ibishi (40), Afrim Muharrem
Syla (30), Burim (20) and Blerim Demë Idrizi (27), Tahir (18) and
Gëzim Tafë Kelmendi (24), Fadil (31) and Sheremet Muhamet Borinca
(42), Agron Muharrem Kelmendi (34), Feim Islam Kastrati (39) and Arben
Isa Gruda (30), - all from Peja; Binak Bajram Ademaj (31), Cenë (62)
and Nazmi Shala (17) from Loxha, Sami Brahim Gashi (18) from Baran and
Shpend Berisha (32) from Kamenica (Peja); Besnik (20) and Ilir Cenaj (17)
from Lloçan and Valdet Haxhi Rexhaj and Maxhun Fazli Rexhaj from
Gramaçel (Deçan); Sejdi Xhafë Berisha (65) and Gëzim
Sejdi Berisha (26) from Gjurgjevik and Ismet Morina (40) from Çeskova
(Klina).
Adem Cufë Nikçi (32), was brutally
beaten by the police at his house in the "Kapeshnica" quarter. He is in
a deteriorated health condition. The following were beaten by the police
and thrown in the Bistrica river: Shyqeri Hysen Kabashi and his 2 sons
Ergyl and Kujtim.
The following are still in detention: Hivzi Rrustem
Kelmendi (28), Agron Ibrahim Kollçaku (28), Behar Adem Bajri, a
retarded person, Kadrush Dakë Kelmendi (46) - all from Peja and Fazli
Zekë Rexhaj from Gramaçel as well as Xhemë Sadri Ukaj
(23) from Lumbardh (Deçan).
GJAKOVA: During the last 2 days, the Serbian
police and military forces stationed at the primary school in Dujaka attacked
the villages of Plançor and Hereç. The police repression
continues in the town itself. Marjan Markaj from Korenica, a member of
the board of the LDK branch in Gjakova, was taken for informative talks.
Isuf Dushi from Osek-Hyla, Kujtim Muhamet Lekaj (17) from Gjakova and Brahim
Kukalla from Cërmjan were arrested and taken to the prison in Peja.
DEÇAN: Serb forces attacked the villages
of Shaptej, Dubrava, Gramaçel, Irzniq and Gllogjan. Helicopters
and war planes flew over this region. 25 Albanians were arrested during
this attack. The following were among the arrested: Brahë A. Beqiraj
from Baballoç, Musa and Hazir L. Kasumaj and another person of the
Vishaj family in Gramaçel.
PODUJEVA: A military convoy of 6 lorries and
an APC arrived from Serbia. Police squads and paramilitary forces are circulating
through the road Merdara-Podujeva-Prishtina, in the villages of Lupç,
Penuh, Peran, Kërpimeh and the town itself.
MITROVICA: Two vans with BG plates full of Serb
civilians and a van and two landrovers full of Serb policemen left Mitrovica
and headed towards Skënderaj. In the vicinity of the green market,
3 Serb policemen arrested an Albanian youngster.
VUSHTRRI: 3 armoured vehicles full of Serb policemen
and a jeep paraded through the road connecting Vushtrri and the villages
of Çiçavica. A convoy of 4 lorries and 40 Serb policemen
headed towards Duboc. 30 Serb policemen searched for Seladin Rexhep Hamiti
(19) in Kolla under the pretext that he is allegedly a KLA member.
PRIZREN: Large military forces were stationed
in the vicinity of Sërbica e Poshtme and the Tile Plant.
RAHOVEC: Two armoured cars full of Serb soldiers
were stationed in Celina and stopped and checked the vehicles and passers-by.
PRISHTINA: In Sllatina e Madhe, Serb policemen
severely ill-treated Shefki Osmani and Agim Berisha from Sllatina, Besim
Shala from Henc and several others. A group of Serb hooligans attacked
and beat Meriton Babatinca (1983) and Fidaim Babatinca (1983), pupils with
secondary schools, while the latter were returning home.
GJILAN: The following were released after being
in detention for a month: Ismail Avdyli (1974), Halil Halili (1968), Kemajl
Aliu (1967), Fejzullah Aliu (1969), Sali Shahini (1963) and Jonuz Aliu
(1958) from Dobërçan. They claim that while in detention, they
were kept tied to a wardrobe and were subjected to torture with truncheons
and electro-shock.
DECEMBER 18:
PEJA: The situation in Peja is still tense. At
least 100 houses were raided and about 45 Albanians were arrested, the
majority of whom were subjected to torture. Behar Muji (18), whose photograph
was presented in Serbian media and who was accused as a murderer of 6 Serb
youngsters in a cafe in Peja, is a mentally retarded person. He is under
medical treatment abroad for a year now. Large police forces left Peja
and headed towards Deçan.
MALISHEVA: Serbian forces were stationed in the
villages of Kijeva, at the place called "Te pishat e Llazicës", in
Mleçan, Carralluka, Smonica near Tërpeza and Malisheva. Apart
from that, war planes flew frequently.
PRIZREN: In the "Shehu" quarter in Lugishta,
the houses in which Serb soldiers had been stationed, were looted. Several
Albanian families fled the village and the lessons in some of the villages
of this region are still not being conducted.
FUSHË-KOSOVA: After the killing of Zvonko
Bojaniq, vice-chairman of the District Assembly of Fushë-Kosova, under
unknown circumstances, Serb police beat tens of Albanians of Sllatina and
other settlements. The following were among those beaten: Nexhmi Osmani
(1951), a worker with the mine in Fshati i Mirë (Dobrosella), Agim
Burgazi, Halil Krasniqi and Rasim Halimi - all from Sllatina e Madhe and
Besim Shala, a technical worker with the "Bajram Curri" Primary School
in Sllatina. In the night between December 17 and 18, on arriving in Sllatina,
several Serb policemen stopped the car driven by Muharrem Dumani (1951)
from Miradia e Poshtme. He was accompanied by two passengers. They were
severely ill-treated.
PRISHTINA: The Albanian daily "Bujku" was not
published today as the electric power was cut to its wards. In the meantime,
the Serbian regime threatened with the closure of several journals in Albanian.
VUSHTRRI: In the villages of Graca and Prilluzha,
inhabited by Serbs, fire shots were heard. Due to fear, many Albanian inhabitants
of the villages of Gllavotin, Bivolak, Zhilivoda and Beçuk fled
their home during the night. 4 armoured vehicles with 40 policemen left
Vushtrri and headed towards Duboc.
MITROVICA: Groups of policemen were stationed
at 4 check-points on the road Mitrovica-Shipol and at the Sitnica bridge.
They are stopping and checking the passers-by. At the water supply in Shipol,
6 Serb policemen with black scarfs on their faces stopped Agim Ejup Spahiu
(26), "Ura e Gjakut" quarter, and 2 other pupils with secondary schools
from Lushta. Fire shots were heard in this place.
On the road Peja-Prishtina, in Dollc near Klina,
Serb police forced out of the bus and severely ill-treated the following
passengers: Hajdar Niman Hoti (57), his son Luan (15) and his nephew Vështrim
Ali Hoti (14) from Dellova near Klina, sheltered in Mitrovica.
KLINA: The police check-point was set up again
in Dollc. Large police forces were stationed at the mine in Volljaka and
at the place called "Pishat e Volljakës". From these places, as well
as in Klina, Binxha and Grapc fire shots are heard. In the outskirts of
Klina, police forced out of the bus two Albanian youngsters, beat them
and released them. In Krusheva, Serbs set fire to the house of Marjan Kita.
FERIZAJ: In Mirash, police blocked the depot
and ordered that the gathered flour not be distributed. They raided the
house of Vesel Thaçi, a bill-collector with the District Financial
Council. He was taken for informative talks, as well as Fatmir Xhata and
Sahit Krasniqi, LDK activists.
DECEMBER 19:
PRISHTINA: An armed civilian (he had a revolver
and a bomb and he a member of a special police unit stationed in Hajvalia
near Prishtina) tried to activate a bomb when William Walker (chief of
the Verification Mission of the OSCE in Kosova) got out of the car with
his two bodyguards. They prevented the activization of the bomb. Later
on, Mr. Walker claimed that the policeman was drunk and armed. According
to the communique given by Jorgen Grunnet, a VM spokesman, three armed
persons came in front of the Walker's residence and yelling pointed their
weapons towards the unarmed bodyguards and then ran into a house near there".
PEJA: After the torture that the population of
the quarters of "Kapeshnica", "Zatra" and "Karagaç" suffered, the
quarters of "Jarina" and "Asllan Çesme" were surrounded, many houses
were raided and many Albanians were arrested. Apart from the police, paramilitaries
took part in the raids, too. The following were among those arrested: Gani,
Adem, Hilmi and Artan Zeka; Ali, Driton and Kastriot Kuka, Nexhat S. Sejfijaj.
The houses of Shefqet and Ismet Zeka were raided. In the outskirts of the
town, police squads are stationed. they are forcing the passengers out
of the bus, ill-treating and arresting them. Bislim Gashi (30) from Lutogllava
was beaten and arrested.
GLLOGOC: Large police and military forces with
23 vehicles intervened in Poklek i Vjetër, Poklek i Ri and Vasileva.
They raided several houses and ill-treated several Albanians. The following
were among those ill-treated: Nuredin (65), Brahim (55), Sefedin (53),
Haxhi (41) and Artan Shishani (18), Shefqet Bytyçi (45), Xhevat
Muliqi (40), Halil (55) and Hazir Delia (50) - all from Poklek and Jashar
Hamzë Berisha (50) and Avdyl Berisha (30), handicapped person from
Vasileva. Police withdrew after the intervention of the OSCE Verification
Mission. Policeman called Joviq fined and insulted on a national basis
the members of the family of Ilir Asllani from Skënderaj, who were
on their way to take the corpse.
PODUJEVA: Military forces (20 tanks and 30 other
vehicles) were stationed in the sports airport in Dumosh. A military convoy
of 20 tanks, 10 lorries and jeeps was stationed in the airport of Batllava,
whereas 3 tanks were noticed in military depots in Vranidoll. 3 armoured
cars are parading through the road Podujeva-Prishtina. Police reinforcements
arrived in Besiana, Lluzhan and other check-points. They are stopping and
checking vehicles, passengers and passers-by. There was shooting at the
police station in Orllan, whereas a police squad arrested 4 Albanian youngsters.
Serb policemen and paramilitaries wearing police uniforms are patrolling
in groups of 10 or more in town itself.
PRIZREN: Ferit Tafallari, member of the Sub-CDHRF
Board in Prizren, informed his sister Bajrame Tafallari (1961) that he
and his 11 friends in the prison of Lipjan are subjected to physical torture
and they are not given sufficient food.
GJAKOVA: In the village of Osek-Hyla, Serbian
police in cooperation with the "local police" raided the house of Rexhë
Thaçi. They searched for his son Lum. Not finding him they arrested
his sister Gjajrona (18), brother Gëzim (28) and Zhujë Ramaj
(50) from Shaptej as well as Ahmet Turkaj (47) from Dubrava near Deçan.
The latter was sheltered in Rexha's house. In the early hours of the morning,
police raided the house of Bajram Zeqa. Arif Meta (42) from Hereç
was arrested. The latter had been sheltered in Bajram's house for the last
6 months. Jahë Elezi (67) and his 5 sons from the village of Gllogjan
near Deçan were taken from the police station in Gjakova to the
prison in Peja. They had been arrested on December 14, during the Serb
attack on Gllogjan. Bajram, Zenun and Gani Sejfijaj as well as Smajl and
Valon Mushkolaj from Gramaçel near Deçan were arrested, too.
RAHOVEC: A truck full of soldiers was stationed
in the center of the town. The soldiers checked the identities of passers-by.
DECEMBER 20:
PODUJEVA: A convoy of 15 tanks moved through the villages of Sveqla and Surkish. Later on, it returned to Podujeva and continued towards Prepallc. Military superiors in 2 armoured cars and 2 jeeps surveyed the terrain.
DELAYED INFORMATION:
MITROVICA: On December 12, 8 policemen stopped
Muhamet Ajet Sadiku (39), a former miner, and his son Visar (10) from the
"Tavnik" quarter. Cigarettes estimated to DM 100 were looted from them.
Muhamet was beaten and taken to the police station. Later on, he was released.
SUHAREKA: On December 12, Fazli (38) and Murat
Kabashi (27) were arrested by the police in the village of Mohlan.
VUSHTRRI: On December 12, Shaqir Paci from the
village of Balinc and Latif Sejdiu (58) from Pasoma were arrested by the
Serbian police in Vushtrria. Latif was interrogated for several hours and
released.
NOTICE: On September 5, the houses of the following
were looted, burned and destroyed by the Serbian police and military forces:
Halil, Sadik, Zekë, Miftar and Destan Morina; Dedë, Palush, Mark,
Luz, Gjergj, Gjokë, Gjon, Fran and Mark Luz Gashi; Ejup, Mark, Beqir,
Hamdi, Llesh, Sylejman and Muharrem Sopjani; Bajram, Ramadan, Ramiz and
Muharrem Krasniqi; Hamzë and Haxhi Isakaj; Isuf and Xhemë Smajli;
Brahim and Ramadan Berisha; Ali Thaçi, Qazim Sadria, Ali Nuha, Rrustem
Sahiti and Isuf Rrahmanaj - all from the village of Dobidol near Rahovec.
