The Balkan Peace Team (BPT) is a project that provides day-to-day support for the work of peace and human rights advocates in the states of the former Yugoslavia. BPT is an experiment in grassroots nonviolent intervention, helping to break the cycle of violence caused by or leading to wars. At the invitation of local non-governmental organisations, BPT has placed international teams of volunteers in Kosovo/a, Croatia and Serbia where their daily presence has helped to enable local activists to carry out their work more effectively.

The work of the BPT teams is mostly in the background, providing encouragement and network connections. Specifically teams might arrange meetings between organisations in different ethnic communities, provide a common space for them to gather, arrange skill sharing workshops, or build links between local activists and international agencies or organisations. The teams maintain a strict non-partisan approach, developing contacts and being available to every ethnic community.

BPT is a project sponsored by 11 member organisations

(both international and national) based in 7 different countries. BPT's work is supported by donations from individuals and a variety of local groups and international organisations. We welcome your enquiries and donations.

Anniversary of the News Agency Kosovapress

Prishtinë, January 4 (Kosovapress)
In Berisha, area of martyred Drenica, by the initiative of Kosova Liberation Army General Headquarter, appropriately it's Directory, on January 4, 1999, has been formed two of the first informative grate institutions of the state, such as The News Agency "Kosovapress" and the Radio "Kosova e lirë". Both of those twined informative institutions have played an important role for the affirmation of the right Albnainan war for freedom and the legitimization of the KLA as the most important as the most important military-political factor of Kosova. Such institutions have been formed in the most proper moments, during the time when Kosova has been entering in the surviving national period and soon it became the freedoms immortal bell. It has been the most autochthonous voice, the most articulated voice of those brave men who fought for freedom, the voice of liberated conscience and of the Albanian idealism.
Those two institutions have conducted the holy mission, putting light in the heroic Albanian war on one sight and the Serb barbaric crimes on the other site. They put light in the way to freedom and clarified the pacifists illusions and its special anti-Albanian war.
In the time when the biblical darkness covered Kosova, In the time of the beginning of the NATO air-strikes, in the time when almost all the Albanian journalists and all the foreign journalists have left Kosova, in the time when the Serb holocaust and genocide towards Albanians have been appeared on the scene, those two institutions have been the only voices that informed about the Serb committed crimes in the Albanian civil population. This is the time when Kosova became the most important event of the humanism's conscience. The liberated war in Kosova has opened the door for the West to correct the Serb crimes and the European diplomacy in Kosova in the beginning of this century. The Liberation War in Kosova was not a spontaneous one, but this has been organized from the idealist Albanian generation while KLA became the realization of the Albanian efforts for freedom which has lasted for centuries.
What has happened in Kosova lately was not a tragedy. It was National Historic drama. This war was the only war of the Albnaina history which has reached its goal. Without this war, Kosova would such as it is today. During the war , The News Agency Kosovapress has transmitted the internet -news in Albanian and three other languages.
Kosovapress has been the only informative source directly from Kosova. Those news have been used by the news agencies of different countries of the world as well as for the European diplomatic institutions. By the end of the war The Albanian Television also transmitted the Kosovapress news so the Albanian people has been in able to get informed properly about everything that has been happening inside of Kosova.
The first director of the News Agency "Kosovapress", has been the journalist and the activist Mr. Berat Luzha in 1998. The first editor has been appointed Mr. Qemal Aliu, and the first photo-reporter was Besnik Berisha. Mr. Metë Bytyqi has been working as with computer as technician and Mr. Isa Krasniçi, an engineer put the News in Internet so everybody could read the news. Later on Mr. Krasniçi has been elected as the director of Agency.
Reporters from the operation zones were Sabit Gashi- Shala of Bajgora, Fitnete Ramosaj-Deçan, Muharrem Mahmutaj, Lirak Çelaj and Ceni from Llapi area, Jonuz Jonuzi and Remzie Zeçiraj from Istog, Hyrie Veliu from Peja, Valentina Gjuraj-Gjakovë, Ruzhdi Jashari-Shtime, Gani Koci, Xhemë Binaku and Murat Musliu -Drenicë, The Commander Bardhi-Kaçanik and Ismet Sylejmani- Karadak.
The Correspondent of the agency from Prishtina was the journalist Nuhi Paçarizi and from Bruksel- Ekrem Krasniçi.
In the Informative activities of the agency "Kosovapress" have contributed the newspapers such as "Zëri i Kosovës" and "Bota e re" and the editors of the radio" Kosova e lirë" Ahmet Qeriqi, Mrtin Çuni, Nezir Myrtaj, Ismet Sopi, Habib Zogaj etc.
Till March 28, this News Agency has worked in Berisha in the house of Asllan Berisha.
On 28 March this house has been bombarded by the Serb "meg" airplanes and in that day has been killed a young 8 years boy, and seven children have been wounded. After while "Kosovpress" has been located in the village of Lladroc in the house of Destan Gegaj and there it has been working till the end of the war.
Since June 17, 1999 the news agency "Kosovapress" has been located in Prishtina and today it continues to transmits the News in Albanian and English.
In the case of the "Kosovapress" Anniversary is thankful to all the peoples in Berisha, Lladroc who helped "Kosovapress" and also the General KLA headquarter for the contribution that they have given on the creation of identity and mission of this National News Agency.
